When you play games do you ever sacrifice your FPS to let the game play on max settings? or do you prefer to have high frames at the cost of visual flaws?

I'll go for a happy medium. I do prefer a smooth performance during games, but I also expect good visual results. I don't buy $300+ video cards not to max most settings in games. I will usually ditch AA first, or lower view distance to see if that will suffice. Beyond that, it depends on the title, driver support, overclocking, and just how well ported or optimized the title in question is. I don't mind some minor hitching if it's more of a rarity, but constant stuttering is no go. I'm only playing at 1920x1080 so usually I don't have much for performance issues with most games I play with my aging HD5870 @ stock. If I can tho I do go for max settings and 4X aa or more.

Always having a rig that can provide the best of both worlds is where I like to be. I don't mind putting settings down to play a game, I'd just prefer not to.

I don't care either way aslong as it doesn't overly stutter.

No, I hate having even the slightest bit of lag. I'm really picky when it comes to that :(

Anything below 30 fps starts to detract from the enjoyment of the game. Thankfully, I haven't run into anything I couldn't max out yet. But whenever that time comes... Very High graphics still look great on any game w/ good graphics. So I would gladly sacrifice a few visual details if it meant the difference b/w a choppy game play experience and a smooth one.
