I never played the original Day of Defeat but I recently bought Counter Strike Source for PC and I played Day of Defeat for a little bit. It seemed like it was all camping. I know you have to capture areas but it just seemed like people were just camping in windows and with those huge deployable machines guns. Every time I ran out in the open I would get popped and get shot like 2 times and dide. It was extremely frustrateing. What do you guys think about Day of Defeat?

Its definately less of an arcade shooter as Counter-Strike and somewhat more tactical. DoD usually inolves alot of running and clearing areas before progressing onwards. That being said I still enjoy the game!

another wwII shooter with too little maps.. nuff said. Even for it's price it's still 10,- too much because of the small amount of maps...

Yes even though the maps right now are so-so. But Kalt is on the way... which was my favorite map in DoD 1.3.

I play DOD:S a little each evening. I far prefer it to COD2.

Can't wait until Kalt is released. Should be sweet. :)

Its a great game.

It makes me laugh when people moan about "campers". Did you know that really its called defense. Its a way of holding onto a position rather than running forward and getting mowed down by said MG's.

DOD is a great game because you actually have to work as a team, some people hold a position, MG's, snipers etc and others; assault etc push forward. Once they have taken a new position then the "campers" move up and defend it and you carry on like that until you have forced them back to their spawn.

If you were in the Army and a you go into what might be hostile territory, you don't stand around moaning as a sniper takes out half of your squad because he is camping and won't meet you on your terms, you jump out the way and try and sneak up on him so you can fight on your terms.

I have been playing the original DOD since 1.3b. I was shocked to see that DODS was nothing like DOD. Ive played source version a few times, but id rather play DOD any day.

Couldn't have said it better.

The heavy MGs by their very nature are used while emplaced (you can't run around shooting with it). And the good players who select that class choose a good strategic point in which to entrench themselves - usually a position which chokes off a corner or route for the opposition - making it harder for the enemy to advance or cap flags.

I still play DoD Source time to time. There are very little servers out there, so favorite the ones with decent amount of players at a given time. With that said, majority of the active community are older or military folks.

I think it is a very good WWII shooter. The weapon handle could be a weeeee bit better but once you get used to it its not bad. More maps could've been made as well as another faction like Russians or Japs. Just a thought. But none the less a solid game with good strategy.

I like it but it can be ridiculous at times. The recoil requires skill to play though. I think overall its a good game but I just dont feel it anymore. I liked it for a good while and played it more than I played CSS at one point but after that I didnt play either that or CSS anymore. Its all just so leet controlled and cheap. I dont know. Good game but I was lil too late to the party to really enjoy it. Should gotten the game a few years before I bought it.

I bought this, but stopped playing shortly after because it honestly isn't a shooter to the caliber of other 10 dollar games.

I don't really like it anymore, but it is fun to camp sometimes.
