Its a great game.
It makes me laugh when people moan about "campers". Did you know that really its called defense. Its a way of holding onto a position rather than running forward and getting mowed down by said MG's.
DOD is a great game because you actually have to work as a team, some people hold a position, MG's, snipers etc and others; assault etc push forward. Once they have taken a new position then the "campers" move up and defend it and you carry on like that until you have forced them back to their spawn.
If you were in the Army and a you go into what might be hostile territory, you don't stand around moaning as a sniper takes out half of your squad because he is camping and won't meet you on your terms, you jump out the way and try and sneak up on him so you can fight on your terms.

Couldn't have said it better.
The heavy MGs by their very nature are used while emplaced (you can't run around shooting with it). And the good players who select that class choose a good strategic point in which to entrench themselves - usually a position which chokes off a corner or route for the opposition - making it harder for the enemy to advance or cap flags.
I never played the original Day of Defeat but I recently bought Counter Strike Source for PC and I played Day of Defeat for a little bit. It seemed like it was all camping. I know you have to capture areas but it just seemed like people were just camping in windows and with those huge deployable machines guns. Every time I ran out in the open I would get popped and get shot like 2 times and dide. It was extremely frustrateing. What do you guys think about Day of Defeat?SneakyBeardtrue, that's why I always used sniper rifle :D yes people hated me for that
I still play DoD Source time to time. There are very little servers out there, so favorite the ones with decent amount of players at a given time. With that said, majority of the active community are older or military folks.
I think it is a very good WWII shooter. The weapon handle could be a weeeee bit better but once you get used to it its not bad. More maps could've been made as well as another faction like Russians or Japs. Just a thought. But none the less a solid game with good strategy.

I bought this, but stopped playing shortly after because it honestly isn't a shooter to the caliber of other 10 dollar games.
I don't really like it anymore, but it is fun to camp sometimes.
