hi guys just wondering if you play san andreas with a controller or keyboard and mouse?

i mean, yeah, mouse is better for shooting, but lets be honest, gta is mostly about driving and that cant be done on the keyboard. can it?

i mean, have any of you got all golds in driving school with the keyboard?

or done flying school???

if so, HOW THE HELL??????????

i'm a bit worried about gta 4, i hope it works well with the 360 controller but tbh i suck with it, and there had better be lock on......

also i cant get my 360 controller to work well with anything, any tips for making it work like it does on a console for san andreas? or with heroes of the pacific?

cheers for your time:)

You can play all of the game with a Keyboard, including the driving.

The flying - in some of the worst missions in gaming history - can be done using a keyboard - I've done it. But you will probably save yourself therapy sessions, anti-depressent pills and a baseball bat - if you use a controller. Ridiculous and just down right lazy they didn't optimise the plane controls for the keyboard since they did for the rest of the game.

What are you talking about?

Flying was tough at the beginning, but when I got the hang of it it, it was pure awesome. I probably spent hours flying around doing stunts and shooting stuff, absolutely no difficulty after I got used to it. It isn't that hard.

Flying is horrible. And utterly pointless too. You finish all those flying missions for nothing.

Did you use a controller?

well i never stuck at it long enough, i just got a controller, but really, you spend more time in that game driving than anything else, a lot more time than you would shooting, and the stats about accuracy with weapons is pointless, cos there's no lock on with the mouse, and you prefer the kb+mouse???

well done i spose

also, kb and mouse means you cant do any gradual turns at all, its all jerky!

I find the keyboard/mouse controls superior for any and all games that do not involve a z-axis. That's just my preference. I don't even own a gamepad for my pc (I do have a flightstick though, for those games with a z-axis).

I do own several different consoles too though, and obviously for those I have to use gamepads. I find that for the GTA games, I prefer to play them on the PC. I didn't do any of the flight stuff, but for actual driving, I drive better with the keyboard than a pad.

there had better be lock on......jpph

That's probably the most stupid and pointless thing you could ask from the game :| you want that do it "legally" just cheat be an official cheater write a code and be happy because it says cheats are activated and that it could corrupt your saves, don't use a cheat that is "not considered" cheat.

Mouse and keyboard for me, otherwise I would have played it on a console.

Let's face it GTA is not a driving simulator, driving the cars sucks but it's fun, you won't drive better because you have a controller and there won't be much difference in smoothness because it sucks anyway. I love the series, but breaking it up in parts like, shooting, flying, driving is stupid because the game is awesome overall, things taken particularly suck. Shooting is obviously better with mouse and keyboard, the lock on system is crap and should only be used for consoles where accuracy is crap because of the worthless gamepdas, flying is better on a keyboard and best on specific joysticks not gamepads, driving isn't better in any way on the gamepad.

what the hell??

i would like there to be lock on like there is in san andreas with a controller cos i suck at aiming with a controller but i prefer driving with one.

how is that so stupid and pointless???????

imo driving the cars does not suck (how does it exactly???), i do drive better with a controller (i managed to do driving school) and there is a massive difference in smoothness.

i reckon your just a fanboy, only one would say that a gamepad is worthless, thats ridiculous and narrow minded. of course driving is better with a gamepad, maybe not for everyone in gta sa, but dont tell me you play gtr 2 with a keyboard and can honestly its a better simulation than with a controller??

Dude I have 3 gamepads, and I use one every day in Trakmania United, I'm not a fanboy, but using a controller in GTA on PC is next to pointless. You managed to finish the driving school? what's so special that you "managed" to finish it? it was a breeze on keyboard. And yeah driving sucks in it. It wasn't designed to be good, just to be fun, there;s absolutely no difference due to the physics system, because of that, driving on a keyboard is almost the same as on gamepad.

Oh and I don't play GTR 2, actually I hate it, every game that is just a racing game that would remain one if it weren't for the term simulator in it's description and that isn't in your favour because GTR 2 is a so called (fake) simulator, GTA is not a simulator and isn't intended to be one.

I play racing games mostly with a controller (check the xfire profile for TMU all it's made on a gamepad) and when I want quick reactions and not smoothness (Grid) I play o n the keyboard, but that doesn't change the fact that a gamepad in GTA on PC is less usefull than a keyboard at driving or anything.

About the lock on, yeah what 10 year old wouldn't want it? to play online and "own" everyone online (and don't tell me that if it would be, you would NEVER use it to gain an unfair advantage online). GTA doesn't come on PC to be played with a controller and I really hope the lock on system doesn't get implemented on PC.

The only one that's narrowminded here is you. So your aiming sucks, so what? play more on the keyboard, get used to it. You don't like driving on the keyboard even tho it's almost the same? get in the car and grab your gamepad. Is it so hard to play with the keyboard and gamepad at the same time if you find it so hard?

Mouse and keyboard for me which I prefer is far superior. Flying with a mouse and keyboard was a breeze. If you think Gta flying is difficult I wish you buds luck in Battlefield 2.

I never said anything was so special about the controller. I just said it helped me finish it, im not saying its superior, im saying i prefer it in some cases. I did not find it a breeze on a keyboard, for starters the very first test can't be done on the keyboard without changing the keys, i must be less skilled than you. I honestly found a big difference driving with a controller, i dunno about the physics system, thats just the way it felt for me. I was wondering how other people managed.

I never said gta was a simulator, that seems to be a point you keep missing, once again all i said was that i preferred it for driving and found it hard to understand how people manage to enjoy driving that much with keyboard, when i found there to be a big difference. A controller is not less useful, maybe not more useful either but i prefer it.

And now your comparing me to a ten year old? Yep, maturity right there. I hadnt even considered the online aspect of the game, and fyi imo cheating is fine as long as it isnt against other people, so no, i wouldn't use it to unfair advantage, i guess i'd just use the kb+mouse.

and how am i being narrow minded? you are the one accusing me of stupid and pointless statements, seemingly missing that i did not state anything as better or worse, just mentioning how it suited me. dont tell me i didnt give the keyboard enough time, used it the entire way up to flight school (i did driving school later on)

and of course gta 4 didnt come to the pc to be played with a controller. hl2 was not made soley to have a billion mods (im sure they dont mind, but thats not why it was made as far as i know). it came to pc so people with pcs can play it. i doubt it bothers rockstar that a select few play with a controller.

and btw, when i said i hope there is lock on, i meant that there would be lock on when you put the controller in (like in san andreas), not with the mouse, that really would be daft, i apologise if i did not make that clear.

i have yet to see how my point about how i hoped they would have lock on warranted such an attack:|

and thats actually a fair idea about using the two at the same time, i hadnt thought of that.

Wasn't comparing you to a 10 year old if it seemed that way I apologize, but those kids are the ones that would actually love and really want lock on. And I'm not just guessing that, it's true, they would love to have it come with the game and not search for aim's etc, go online set the mic's volume on max and scream "noobs I own you" etc. Yeah I was talking more about multiplayer when I said that lock on is stupid and pointless, but I wouldn't want it to be in the game at all not even single player, but that's me.

You said your aiming "sucks", so how is that giving it enough time? my aim sucks compared to good players in FPS games, but GTA is simple in terms of aim and shooting. Play however you like it but I for one don't see an advantage of the gamepad over the keyboard while driving or flying and I didn't change the controls at all, I finished the game with the default settings. The only time I had problems was in GTA VC in the mission where you have to plant dynamite with an RC helicopter in a building and I still didn't change the keys, I just got used to it and after that it was a breeze. I don't care how you play the game, play it how you feel better, but I strongly disagree with the lock on system.

ahhhhh there in lies the misunderstanding. i meant my aim sucks with a controller, hence why i wanted lock on. and i want to play with a controller cos i prefer driving with one.

well i guess id better give it another bash, if so many other people managed it without a controller:oops:

Sorry I thought you said about keyboard that your aim sucks and you need lock on for gamepad because it would be even worse:P. I don't see why you want to play it so much just with a gamepad but if you dislike driving and flying with the keyboard the keyboard/mouse+gamepad is your best option ;). Walk, shoot, interact with the keyboard, drive, run over, crash-into other flying objects-, fly, crash, hit, with the gamepad.

I use both the Kb/m and a gamepad, depending on what I'm doing. Kb/m works better for me for shooting and moving outside of a vehicle. Once I get in a vehicle, I change to my gamepad for better (analog) controls. You just have to get used to changing gears in mid-game.

Is this a joke? SA control much better with a keyboard and mouse, whether you're shooting, driving or flying.

Out of car, you get the fluid mouselook, allowing you a much broader and smoother peripheral vision while also allowing for pinpoint aiming, while in the car you get the fluid 360 degrees mouselook, making highspeed driving easier as you're more aware of your environment.

I actually started a game of Vice City again recently and, eugh! Playing without moselook in the car is horrible! I still think VC controls better in and out of car with a keyboard and mouse, though, but with SA it's absolutely no question - it may take a little getting used to (for some), but it's much better.

GTA4 is a Games for Windows game, so it'll surely have 360 pad support, but if Rockstar has any sense, GTA4 will control with a keyboard and mouse in exactly the same way GTA SA does.

Also, for those who want a demonstration, this is a video of me flying with a keyboard and mouse. And driving is way easier than flying.

I've never played the gta series on pc before, but was interested in getting 4 for my pc. Whats the control scheme on the pc like for SA since we don't know what it is for on the 4th one, I imagine wasd is for moving, and left mouse is for shooting, but what other keys do what.

it's eaiser to use a mouse and keyboard because using the controller makes the game harder to get use to
