For example, Call of Duty has no story or plot but you're thrown into a middle of a scenario with objectives to accomplish. Whereas, in Medal of Honor Pacific Assualt or Brothers in Arms, there's an actual story and plot that accompanies these objectives you need to accomplish.

Which type of gameplay do you prefer?

For me personally, although the gameplay in Call of Duty is the best and mind-blowingly good, I kind of lean toward more story-driven games. I like how in Medal of Honor Pacific Assualt you play as one single character who narrates his experience during the war. Same goes for BiA where you play as one guy who you play as throughout his story. It makes you care about who you're playing and who you are...and I guess, there's more respect for the game you're playing.

But when it comes to sheer pure fun and mayhem, Call of Duty is the best experience.

Anyway, what are your thoughts about this? This is not just for FPSs but it can be for any genre like RPGs, adventures, and RTSs. I never played Oblivion or WoW, but these games are more scenario-driven, right, kind of like Diablo II where although there's a back-story, the characters aren't really developed but it's more about creating your ownidea of a character by making him/her stronger in the process.Whereas, a game like Dreamfall is more story and character driven that is set by the developers on a more linear path.

Anyway, which do you prefer and why?

RPG's FTW, You play who you want to be, rather than just some guy you don't, possibly.

I prefer games with a cohesive storyline and well developed characters. It makes me care more about what I am doing in the game. Half-Life 2 is an excellent example of this, because I really cared about what happened to the other characters in that game (including Dog).

I thought Call of Duty 1 was better than CoD 2 because it wasn't all just battle after battle all of the time. There were quiet moments to reflect and spend time with a couple of the characters, like Captain Price. But yes, the BiA games are much better story oriented, with well developed characters, so you care more about what happens as you go along, and for that type of game it gives me more motivation to continue.

When it comes to RPG games, I tend to favour the more traditional story-heavy type of RPG over action RPGs. That's not to say I haven't enjoyed the hack'n'slash hunt-for-loot ****in the past, because I managed to finish Dungeon Siege (very addicting game for some reason). I could never finish Diablo though, because it was too much of a click-fest for me. I prefer the likes of Neverwinter Nights or the Gothic or Elder Scrolls series, which have more depth to the quests and make you care more about the characters.

I look back at some of the past ****cs like Doom and Quake, and yes I had a good blast at the time, but I tend not to play that kind of game these days because it is simply about racking up as many kills as possible, and becomes a bit boring after a while. I never finished Painkiller or Serious Sam for the same reason.

When it comes to RTS games, I view them more like playing a good game of chess, and although you might have to kill lots of enemies along the way the key objective is always uppermost in my mind, and how to employ the correct tactics to achieve victory. Even some RTS games these days are introducing more RPG elements as well to give the characters more meaning and develop better scenarios for story-telling.

I just need more motivation to finish games now, and that means a good story where you have to complete goals rather than rack up kills, and believable characters that can engage you.

I like story driven games 100 times more. I like to know why I'm killing everyone around me instead of just throwing you into some random soldier and tell you to capture point A. I also like linear gameplay rather than open-ended stuff with no real story. Bosses are also quite important, like in the Metal Gear Solid games.
