Do you regret?
Do you wish you had done something more beneficial to yourself, or to the society?
Thanks.

yea, i currently do.
my gaming, or more specifically my posting, habits have gotten out of control. I really should be doing about three other things right now (writing a thank you letter to my Grandpa, cleaning the kitchen, cleaning the bathroom).
Its hard though...I work weird hours; 1PM to 9PM...I go to work too early to really want to do anything productive, and I get off too late to have the energy to do stuff.
I'm just making excuses though.

I agree with you, but I often doubt just how much I am enjoying my time.
Idunno, I am 26...while I am not childish, I feel like I am experienceing the growing pains of transition between my youthful pursuits and my adult responsibilities lol.
I take more pride and satisfaction in being productive than ever before, yet my habits dont let me pursue productive activities. Does that make sense? lol
yes i kinda regret my time and money i've wasted playing video games where i could have used that money for something more beneficial to me. i always seem to say "i wish i wouldn't have spent that x amount of money on that video game" im slowing down now but i've blown off frends a couple of times just to play video games but never again.
I plan to become a (game) developer as soon as I get out of high school and university.
Every game I play adds to my gaming experience and raises my standards, and the mental reflexes and knowledge of PCs I have acquired all comes from self-troubleshooting and messing around settings and files.
That's a big fat no. In fact, I sometimes regret wasting hours that I could have otherwise spent on gaming.

Well just take things in stride. There isn't some magical line between adulthood and childhood where you have to drop everything, put on a suit, grab a briefcase and start reading the Wallstreet Journal. If you have to, make a schedule for your time. Give yourself so much time to do whatver you want, and then a set time for you to work on things you want to get done.[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"][QUOTE="ex-mortis"]

And yea, I dont mean acting like an adult, I will always be young at heart, I will always play video games. But at the same time my room shouldnt be as messy as it is, I should pay my bills on time, and start saving money.
I should problably just make a general rule of "no computer before work", that way I make the most of my time before I go to work, and when I get off I dont feel guilty about relaxing.
honestly I just need to get back to the gym. That seems to by my keystone of productivity; productive body = productive mind

Sure it does. I often consider the fact that it's just a big waste of time and that I could be doing something more productive, but at least I'm not an addict anymore. I get decent to good grades in college and I practice guitar regularily. I feel sort of bad about spending almost an entire year on nothing but World of Warcraft because I was pretty much on the verge of failing because I never studied at all, but even that was pretty fun. I think I've managed to find just the right balance between real life and video games, something I had a lot of trouble with in the past. Despite being in awful shape I still exercise regularily, I play an instrument like I said and do well in school as well. So it all evens out. I do what I love rather obsessively (on weekends anyway) but still feel like there's some purpose to my life. I guess it's different being 26 than it is 17 because at the moment anyway I have pretty clear goals but I'm going to assume you don't go to university (don't know how it works over in the States, assuming you are from there).
Don't really know what to tell you, I used to really regret "wasting my time" but I just kind of got over it. Having some sort of purpose to your day kind justifies spending the rest of it doing something less productive, I guess.
If I am not gaming, I tend to be painting or drawing. So my creative side suffers when I am on a gaming binge. As soon as the sun starts to warm things up, I will probably switch back into the artsy fartsy mode.
Regrets? Nothing that I linger on... Clearly if I worked more and played less, I might have more, but then again, it might actually reflect a certain level of satisfaction that workaholics never seem to find.

Makes complete sense, I agree with you, as you grow older you will take much more pleasure from "accomplishing" things in life... video games is the ultimate time sync.
They are still a lot of fun though, but moderation is key.
You don't want to be 70 yrs old having done nothing but game, sadly, some of my friends are on that road.

yea, I dont think I am on the road to being 70 and having done nothing but game. Instead, I am on the road to actually getting bored with games. I think ive spent so much time with them I just have kind of seen it all...Im jaded lol
I have no regrets.
I have been playing games since 2000-2001....back then i was playing on N64 and Sony Playstation...In 2002 ived got my first PC( an Intel Pentium III :D )and i think that year was the best year of my life :D...in 2005 ived became a "gamer" coz then ived discovered MMO's games :P
But one thing that is bugging me is that thing that i hear it everywhere on the news, i hear it from the peoples that are against gameing in general :"Why do you waste your life playing video games" and many other affirmations like this one.
Frankly i never understood how can someone be judged on the fact that this "someone" plays video games...Anyhow i can say that iam an average person...iam not more then your averge casual guy that everybody knows...the guy that has a job,has a girlfriend, goes to the club on weekends and stuffs like that...iam exactlly like that only that iam playing games on top of those things.
In the end its all about the "happiness" feeling or the joy that you have when you do a certain thing...does it matter what do you do to enjoy yourself? If the things that you do to feel your self good,to enjoy yourself dosent affect or harm the persons around you, then is nothing wrong with that...
Right now iam feeling good beeing an average person, liveing an average life, haveing by my side a beautiful girlfriend,a nice work place and a stupid dog that poops in the house right after i came with him from the park...i have enough happiness in my life at this point and much of that happiness comes from playing games,to be honest isnt the feeling of happiness what everybody whants in their lifes?...maybe at some point in my life i will search for more "happiness" and ill stop gaming...but till then...KEEP ON GAMING! :D
So i dont regret nothing...actually i would feel some regrets if i wouldnt start gaming at all.

yea, Ive been gaming for a long time as well. 1990 to be exact; my mom went back to school and as a result we had to buy our first computer. They didnt object to me playing games, I was 6 years old at the time, and well, the rest is history. Gaming is a part of who I am, its far more than a hobby. As others say, though, its all about moderation
I just turned 30 this month, and I have been feeling this way a lot lately. Granted, I've done a lot in my 20's. Got a degree, landed a great job in my career (Cisco networking), and been in a stable relationship w/ my g/f for the past 5 years. I've looked back at my gaming hobby, and while there's a part of me that wishes I had done more of something else, there's also a part of me that realizes that gaming is my hobby. Its my escape from the everyday in and outs of the world around me.
Granted, I've cut back on my gaming habits. Plus, studying for new certifications with my job, the g/f time (planning for our future), etc. have taken away my gaming time. But, I just find a medium between the two. Just make sure you treat your gaming as a hobby, and don't let other things get in the way. Just make sure you take some time for yourself as well, and you'll be set.
Yes I do. I could of spent that time being more productive like playing sports and learning. I got dump a couple of times because I spent more time gaming then with my GF. Gaming can be addictive at times. After all the years I've been doing it's very hard to quit.
I know waaaaay too much about how the worlds a corrupt **** hole to not play games and try and forget about it.
You know what the worst part is?
Surfing, reading some forum posts, checking some game prices, looking for a deal on steam, spending tens of minutes just trying to choose a game to play, finally picking one up, waiting the load screen, shooting a few monsters or building a couple of buildings, getting bored, feeling empty inside, quitting the game, surfing, reading some forum posts, trying to choose a platform (pc, ds, ps2, psp, wii), checking the collection part of gamespot user profile, getting bored, missing old days (late 90's), realizing you are almost 28, feeling empty inside, checking the new releases before going to bed ...

Hey I'm addicted to the internet and I know how it can be, but there are many things you can do to change your immediate world for the better.
Look, my advice to you is find something in life that truly reciprocates emotionally to you and foster your relationship with that no matter what it is. For me its music productiuon and writing lyrics. Those are outlets for my frustrations, cynicism, and in the end, love for the world. For others its a GF/BF or wife/husband. Anything that engages your creative mind or maybe nature appreciation; hikes, fishing, climbing, gardening, maybe sports, or maybe just going to clubs and partying (don't overdue the drugs though ;)
It has to be something that activates and stimulates your heart and right brain. Gaming is by and large a left brain dominated media. I totally love it but I also recognize that it alone cannot satisfy me on a holistic level.
I do not regret it for one moment. I am actually thankful for gaming. You may ask yourself why. Well I will tell you why I am thankful gaming is in my life. I got heavy into partying after ending my baseball career after high school due to injuries. I was going down one scary path and I needed to find something else to spend my time on other than doing stupid reckless activities. Well here I am now spending my weekends gaming and watching movies instead of going out and getting well wasted. Sure my popularity with people has plummeted, but do I really care? No, since I started gaming "heavily," my college grades sky rocketed.
I guess what I am saying is that I would not take back any minute I spent playing games.

Well no you don't lol. Though if you think about it, in my case it is quit true. I am no longer too intoxicated to be able to study when I need to, I can now stop a game and turn to my left on my computer desk to read, or do an assignment. When partying I could have cared less about grades, now that I am thinking straight most of the time I have my priorities in line. I guess my post was not really clear that I now think about it.I am not trying to brag what so ever, but I went from making Cs to getting put on the Dean's list. In the end I have to thank gaming for pulling me away from the EVIL aaahhhh! :)
No regrets. The last time I spent day in and day out playing games were with the NES playing Zelda 1 and 2 plus Contra. After that, my gaming was in moderation.
Yes - mostly with WoW though.coolmonkeykid
Same goes for me. WoW raids tend to eat into your schedule to the point where you re-schedule large parts of your life..
Not really. In the end, what does it matter? In 1000 years nobody is going to remember that I ever even existed and even if they would, so what? There really is no point in life since it's not like I'm a scientist who could improve life on earth somehow, so the best I can do is to have fun while I'm alive and I happen to have fun with computer games so that's what I do.
definitely. i'm spending 10-20 hours every week on games and those hours could've been spent on books, my japanese, my girlfriend, and looking for a job better than the lousy gig i have now, etc etc etc. i'm looking at cutting it down this year.

I'm 17, the time that I don't spend at school, sleeping, eating, or doing something else, is spent in front of my monitor.
The mathematical average of my grades is 9.5 on scientific subjects and 8 on literature and history, and I don't have any problems such as addiction, antisocialism, depression or fear of loneliness.
Your point?
