I notice this after each mega Steam sale and the backlog keeps piling up. It takes me longer to decide which game to play, and when I do, I play it less than the time it took for me to decide on it!

Haha yes I spend more time deciding which games to get and looking at reviews and stuff than actually playing them.

I have a category dedicated to games I haven't played yet that I got in bundles and whatnot. When I'm playing one, I add it to my favorites and generally only play one or two games at a time. It doesn't really take me long to decide what I want to play.

So true. I actually spend more time looking at gameplay videos and discussing the game on here than actually playing it and finishing it. I don't know what's wrong with me lately. I've always been a gamer since I was little, but now I have like 8 games installed and don't feel like playing ANY of them (trying to finish Bastion currently)

This is what I do too. I only keep 1-3 games in my favorites list at a time. Right now it's TF2, Terraria, and GTA4.

Nah, most of the games I didn't buy on day 1 are mediocre, I just buy them while they're cheap but most of the time, I will play 2-3 hours of each max and forget about them. Sometimes I can feel like I have nothing to play even if I have 50+ unfinished games, but the first reason I don't play them is because I don't like them enough in the first place.

773 hours on COD4... Hmm, don't think I spent that long, deciding to play it.

Yea happens to me all the time.

Can't make up my mind on what to play, sometimes I end up just running out of time and having to goto work or bed or whatever.

Yea pretty much.... it took me two years to decide whether to buy the Spellforce Series or not. When I finally did, I stopped playing after 1 hr. lol

I'm usually pretty focused in my gaming in that I only play 2-3 games at a time but once I finish those games I spend a lot of time deciding which games I should play next.

I used to have a huge game backlog (some even werent unwrapped lol), then I decided to force myself to finish one game at a time. I have to finish the game I chose to play in order to play the next one and trust me guys this has worked. I have finished more games this year than any in the past. Give it a try.

It's a valid tactic and I'm sure it works but I have tried it and it doesn't for me.

Reason you ask? It's cause some days I prefer to play one genre, then other days I feel like another genre....

EDIT: MP games don't help either (like CoD or an MMO)

I tried doing that on several occasions, but the fun factor decreases when I feel like I'm forcing myself to play a particular game.

Not more time, but there are a lot of times that I just keep scrolling through the massive list just trying to figure out what is next. I have a pretty big backlog thanks to all of Steam's big sales but also all of the weekend, mid-week, and daily deals.

Steam really needs to add a 'Random' button...

lol yes, Ive had to devise elaborate and generally effective systems to remedy that problem. I install games according to my mood and only a limited number of them. Usually odd numbers - cuz Im weird like that. I currently have 4 installed on Steam and then Starcraft 2. I usually have 5 installed on Steam at any given time though...sometimes 7.

I feel like then Id be forcing myself to play something. Id rather be inclined to a game and play that and slowly cycle through my games that way.

I definately do the same. I also spend too much time thinking about what games I can buy next rather than playing the new ones I just bought! It's a problem with so many good games being released now days, especially when they are indie ones.

Currently have 6 games I'm trying to play at once and that's not including their sequels. Also have Serious sam 3 and Red Orchestra 2 pre-ordered. After all this I'm still tempted to buy Hard Reset, Stronghold 3 (hoping it's as bad as the second so I don't buy it) and play Path of Exile as soon as that is available.

No time for my ps3 games at the moment.

I don't have a problem now..I buy a game then play it till I'm finished and move on to the next one and repeat. I use to let games pile up unfinished because I would buy 2,3,4 or more at a time. I only allow myself to purchase one at a time and play till it's done. It was a little hard doing this in the beginning, but it has made me feel much better about PC gaming now that games aren't piling up and wasting time deciding which to play then never finishing any of them.

I would try that but I see two potential problems.

1- if you get tired of that game or genre, you don't have another one to play

2- you miss out on sale packs

Once you said on the weekend, that reminded me... I BARELY have time to play. Although I'll frequent the forums after work because it's relaxing.. I don't have the time to play that many games. Rarely will I dedicate an entire weekend to game these days. Juggling school and a full-time job, and a social life doesn't leave me that much time for gaming. As much as I love playing video games, there are better things to do. At least for me.

Lol, same here bro.

I used gamefly, to rent some SMT RPGs for my ps2, so I could have a little break from pc gaming. Variety.

Bastion is a good game, I am (I want to say) well over half way through it, I pick it up and play it every few days, it is one I will end up finishing!

I have been working on a song, spent about 19-20 hours composing and mixing it so far, Still have a ways to go, but I am supposed to work on it a little today (I told myself) So I am gonna watch and episode of Jimmy Fallon or so, then force myself to go in there and get a little further along in it.

HAHA! It's all so true. I spend far too much time reading reviews and watching trailers.

It's pretty rare these days for me to actually finish a game.

Generally, when I buy a new game, I just dive right it. If it's a great experence, I'll finish it. Bastion was a game that sucked me in and I finished it in a day and a half.

No problem, I will post all my music free to download (as well as free to donate lol) once I complete it. Put a link to the site to download it from in my sig. Soon as I finish a few songs to my satisfaction I will upload them there for all to download.

Only if the game is very short, Call of Duty short, otherwise I'll take more time because I like to finish all the games I start playing.

Yeah. I think I've spent more time looking up most of the games I've played recently than I did playing them with the exception of Infamous 2 and Killzone 3.

I admit I sometimes get pulled in by the HYPE machine. But I'm very picky about games I buy and play. They are expensive, I research and choose accordingly.
