Are there any mature people on these boards?x2SneakYx
The minimum age here is 13 so you know what to expect. I think when more people get the opportunity to use it their perception will change. Most people ignore the fact that PC to PC multiplayer is completely free and not every game will be cross platform.
no I do not, since there are free alternatives for the PC
1/ Xfire
2/ Valve Community ( the beta is out)
whoody12
My thoughts as well. Steam's New update is gonna rock PC gaming....

We don't consider PC2PC being free a reason to support Live because we take free online for granted, as we should. The answer to who support GFWL is quite simple: people who play on both xbox and PC and already have a Live account. Somehow it feels as if the GFWL is targeted to X360 owners and not PC gamers.
Over 8 million people pay over 100 euros a year just to play one game, but paying 50 euros a year for a great all in one service like this is wrong?
BTW, bashing MS for trying to make money... *NEWSFLASH* EVERY SINGLE COMPANY OUT THERE TRIES TO DO THAT! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN DON'T BUY IT!
... stop being so naïve!
^ I'm not a MS fanboy, but you guys are being ridiculous.

Saying that a service isn't wanted next to let's say Xfire or STEAM doesn't = MS Bashing. MS needs to show PC Gamers that it has a service willing and able and is better than the others. They certainly haven't convined Publishers/Developers that Live is good for PC Gaming. Live has to prove otherwise, and is not entitled to a free pass. The only people that are going to benefit from Live at this point are 360 users, and the silver feature is nothing more than Gamespy with certain features taken aways, like hosting your own games.
I guess I do. I already have a Live account for my 360. Doesn't bother me, and the fact that PC2PC is free anyways, so I really don't know what people are getting so bent out of shape over. If you want the extra features (I will be the first to admit they are not all that amazing) then pay for a subscription, if you don't, then simply DONT PAY. You still get to play online games (PC2PC) just like you do now.
Seriously...whats the issue here?

It's exactly that simple. If you don't want the extra features you don't pay. You would think this is the first online service to offer a subscription with more features and it's not. Gamespy also has a subscription where you get voice chat and unlimited friend list etc. The problem with Xfire is it's not integrated into the game and I like many others signed up but never use it.
The fact is not about paying or not paying for the service. The fact is if they implement Live in PC games, it also probably means cross-platform multi-player, something most the PC gamers don't want. Just see how Shadowrun turned out to be.DrugSkill69
Exactly, and what are the restrictions put on the developers? There's a reason why the big guns in the PC Gaming arena aren't biting. Mods is the biggest concern, as any game on the Live Network will not jive with user created mods due to "security concerns" according to MS. Just take a look at what's going on between Epic and MS right now with UT.
Windows LIVE silver IS free and Microsoft isn't being money greedy - WoW costs what? $156 A YEAR! You don't have to get a gold subscription anway, It's not like you can play cross-platform with the PS3 so why bash Microsoft for coming up with a fun and innovative feature?

With WoW, at least your getting content and dedicated servers, and not to mention a game :O
Yeah, that is exactly what I think too. Unfortunately, pirating concerns on the PC platform make the developers to shift toward Microsoft way of seeing what PC gaming should be more and more with time. Especially ID Software. What I don't understand is that the lead programmer of this company, John Carmack, is a fervent open source proner.
Anyway, I just hope the Cedega developers make their product flawless with time, and that Microsoft don't sue them for whatever reasons. With DirectX 10 (Microsoft propriety) games coming, I don't think Cedega can keep up the pace. But if Linux and Cedega manage to go more mainstream, maybe one day will we be able to escape the Microsoft's plans for the future of PC gaming.
If you don't know what Cedega is, it's a Linux software making it possible to play DirectX or OpenGL games designed for Windows on Linux.

Dude, nobody cares why you created this thread. You brought up an issue, and people want to discuss it. That's why we are all here on these forums, to discuss games and issues that affect gaming. I support the GFW (in a passive sorta way) initiative, but I see no harm in discussing the possible negative aspects with other people.

We want to make sure that no one supports it. This is an opportunity to save some souls.

Well they might just be doing business but you still can't say that Gold isn't overpriced. First off it isn't 50bucks everywhere, in here it's 60euros($82) a year or 20e($27) for 3 months. And what do you get for it, matchmaking and achievements for 2 games out of which the other is a 3 year old port, and the joy of playing with console players in one average shooter. I'm not saying WoW is cheap either, but imo it at least offers something you can't really get for free. If paying for Gold would make MMORPGs free then I would for sure consider it again.
There are really no reasons whatsoever for PC only gamers to support Live since it doesn't offer them anything. Oh, and cross platform play between PS3 and PC is technically possible, I remember Epic mentioning that they considered the feature for UT3(for free), it won't happen tho since the gameplay then would have to be crippled on PC, but it could be done. But most people just don't care for that feature, that's why it hasn't been done yet, not because it's some magical thing only Vista and MS are capable of.You guys are d*mb, I can't believe you guys are debating over something like this,-pathetic- is the word I was looking for.

Are you 12?
I always get my Gold subs on eBay for $20.00 for 13 months. At least you don't need to be a paid subscriber on the PC to play online.
I was impressed with Live since I first used it on the Xbox and i gladly pay the fee for a consistent experience across all games. With the other consoles you basically get what you pay for which often equals to not much.
Why? Because he agrees with you? We're only discussing, it's how GS works, you can't really control what goes on in your thread. Make a blog next time if you don't want anyone disagreeing with you.You guys are d*mb, I can't believe you guys are debating over something like this,-pathetic- is the word I was looking for.

Some users agree with anything MS related. Most others will debate and discuss what's good and bad with a service without turning a blind eye.

But PCs do online gaming BETTER than MS LIVE. Why pay for an inferior service?

It's just a back-end service just like the gamespy browser included in most games. Gamespy also has a subscription for voice across all games for a fee but it's included with Live for free. The service is free for PC to PC and i don't see how it's any different to what people are use to. If you don't like it just don't buy any games that use it. It's that simple.

Instead of pushing the idea of buying live cards on Ebay all the time, you should at least warn them of the huge scam people are running with stolen cards on Ebay. It would fair in the least. I wouldn't buy a gift card on ebay, ever, ever, ever, ever. In fact, that's most likely the next items that Ebay will ban from selling, given all the problems they are having. Even so, why should PC Gamers pay for live anyway? What will they get for 50 bucks that's worth it? That is the question that isn't answered, ever. Unless you're a 360 gamer, I don't see the point.
Here's a link to a live auction right now, for $45 dollars though, no where close to $20. He explains the scams in his listing as well:

Well you don't have to pay if you don't want to which has been stated numerous times. i think juiced 2 is suppose to be cross platform and i hardly buy PC racers because the community is so small. Now i can get the game on PC and not have to worry about a small community.
This topic shows up on a daily basis for some reason and is becoming so repetitive. I'm done.......

Trackmania has a pretty big community on PC if you're looking for people. It's also a lot of fun.
