i will check gamespot's reviews because i am always curious to see what big sites/magazines give games, but i've found that their tastes almost never gel with mine, and i find their refusal to give out 10s (except to tony hawk games) frustrating
if you will only give out a couple tens a decade, then 9 or 9.5 or whatever becomes the de facto effective 10/10 and you're back to where you started anyway, it's a pointless system, and i think gamespot - and everyone else - shouldn't have such a problem with giving out top marks, grading on a curve is fundamentally stupid unless those higher marks are atainable by the games that deserve them
i was also always very disgruntled by how rating console games a .3 higher than pc games became a sort of unofficial rule at gamespot, and how they constantly whine about how good specs are needed to run games at high settings (woah, really?), hopefully the .5 rating system will kill that off
i have bought games purely off gamespot's recommendation before, and i've been burned (god of war, as an example)- and i have bought games gamespot has given moderate scores to and had a great time playing them (gta2, as an example)... but for the most part, gamespot is pretty accurate when it comes to rating games, and i do trust the site, to an extent
