no

i will check gamespot's reviews because i am always curious to see what big sites/magazines give games, but i've found that their tastes almost never gel with mine, and i find their refusal to give out 10s (except to tony hawk games) frustrating

if you will only give out a couple tens a decade, then 9 or 9.5 or whatever becomes the de facto effective 10/10 and you're back to where you started anyway, it's a pointless system, and i think gamespot - and everyone else - shouldn't have such a problem with giving out top marks, grading on a curve is fundamentally stupid unless those higher marks are atainable by the games that deserve them

i was also always very disgruntled by how rating console games a .3 higher than pc games became a sort of unofficial rule at gamespot, and how they constantly whine about how good specs are needed to run games at high settings (woah, really?), hopefully the .5 rating system will kill that off

i have bought games purely off gamespot's recommendation before, and i've been burned (god of war, as an example)- and i have bought games gamespot has given moderate scores to and had a great time playing them (gta2, as an example)... but for the most part, gamespot is pretty accurate when it comes to rating games, and i do trust the site, to an extent

i wouldnt say his approach is rare. aside from D9, we all say pretty much the same thing. we trust GS reviews to a point, and that they are no worse or better than any other review sight.

just because one person argued for 3 pages that GS is horrible that doesnt mean the majority agreed. just look at D9 as the one guy out of 10 that gave CIV II a score of 3 instead of 9 like the rest. ;)

i used to go off gamespot's scoring, and now i just think there to strict. and they have scored some games really high... and ive tried them just to be very very disappointed, and ive played some games where gamespot gives them a mid-hig 8's and they've been the best games ive ever played.

i was kind of mumbling, but all in all, gamespot is to strict, and i think there payed off for some games to give a higher rating. and on top of that some of the reviews are very immature. so the reviews i trust now are on ign.com

All games i ever bought with a high score here have been great. Games i havent checked here and bought off the cuff...have been some of my biggest gaming mistakes ever. If you look at the games you have loved and check their score normally pretty good scores...least for mine. Remember they are scored in general...so Half Life 2 being a great game will still be crap if you hate first person shooters!

No, not most of the time. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, Gears of War, and dozens of other messups really ruined my trust with the site.GodLovesDead

Agreed. In the late '90's, I used to go by their reviews and opinions quite a bit, but over time they've shown a lot of bias against some genres while giving other genres a free pass. So now I mostly come here for the forums and the news articles.

I read or watch their reviews to get a better insight into a game, but i never care about their score, because thats just their opinion.

Plus it bugs me a little lately that they dont mention how a game runs on a pc, what flaws ect. Like bioshock and its activation system and how many times you can install it. If i hadnt read on another site about that then i would properly have bought the game, but im not gonna support something like that, pirates shoundt have it easier then those that buy a game.

And i also though doom 3 deserved a lot more then 8,5. And gears of war is just insanely boring, but there we have it again, its just personal opinions.

And even though im a huge cnc fan i still though the 9 score is a little too high, because the story and the famous FMV was pretty bad compared to the ones in the earlier games.

And Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlinesis the closest ive seen to the best game ever made and that game only got 7,7.

Also look at bioshocs review on IGN, its almost a total joke, because they say they ran it with a quad core, 4 gb ram and a 8800 and it ran perfectly smooth, well DUUUUUH, such review sites should also try the games on lower systems, not many people can afford nasa computers.
