The Dirt series is on sale on Steam and I was wondering if it's even possible to play the game since it has GFWL. I've had horrible experiences with this DRM and I really don't want to waste my money knowing I won't be able to even play it due to how horrendous GFWL is.

It can be a slight annoyance at times, but it doesn't stop them from being some of the best racing games out there.

Sidenote, the first game doesn't use Live.

No. It's certainly not an excuse to skip out on awesome games. Dirt has it, Batman Arkham series, GTA, Fallout, etc etc. Doesn't really affect anything you do, unless the game needs patching, but every game needs patching regardless what it's being patched through. The windows live hate is unjustified. I think it probably used to be more intrusive but I barely notice it.

It definitely doesn't improve the game but it doesn't ruin it. GfWL just makes it more of a pain in the ass to play and update the game but it hopefully won't stop you from playing.

On Dirt 2, I had a problem where I had to uninstall the GFWL system and manually install and patch it to get it to work. This was from a physical copy. I haven't really had any real problem with Dirt 3.

Nope, Codemasters ruins the Dirt series, they're great at making racing games, but their extreme milking killed the Dirt series, 1 was great, 2 was good, 3 was okay, but this new one is a joke and a waste of money and time.

If you already have an Xbox Live account the transition is very painless (at least it was for me).

When I start a GFWL game (including Dirt 2 and Dirt 3) I just get a popup asking me if I want to sign into my account, takes like 3 seconds.

The achievements that I earn while playing PC games being applied to my Xbox Live account is pretty cool.

I could be wrong but I only recall Dirt 2 having GFWL. I know Dirt Showdown didn't have it and I don't remember Dirt having it either.

I had some problems with Red Faction Guerilla and GFWL which I could never manage to fix even using several 'fixes' I found online that others had used. Eventually I had to play the campaign offline. RFG is a great game so I loved it but it really soured my taste for GFWL, so much so that I will avoid games that use it for the most part. I will say Batman AC worked perfectly, thankfully.

Speaking from experience, monkey boy. GTA4, Gears of War and Viva Pinata all required you to be signed in to save your games. And pasting tired internet memes doesn't make you any less of a degenerate.

No, fact, end of discussion. You were already given clear evidence, unless you consider a local profile as "signing in", by invalidating Krelian-co's evidence, this is clearly not the case and the function of LIVE is beyond your comprehension, take it as you will, that's exactly what happened.

Then I can only assume this is a new feature that's been added since I last played those games because I assure you, there was no way you could save any game without being online. So, take your condescending tone somewhere else, please.

I played every single game you gave as an example at release, you're full of it, take your misinformation somewhere else. If you never played them in the first place, then you have an excuse.

Then I must have been imagining that alert that came up everything I tried to save...but I wasn't so that's irrelevant. I'd call you a liar but I can't think of any reason why you would do so, therefore I call you delusional.

The Dirt series is on sale on Steam and I was wondering if it's even possible to play the game since it has GFWL. I've had horrible experiences with this DRM and I really don't want to waste my money knowing I won't be able to even play it due to how horrendous GFWL is.

Or could it possibly be that his computer is slightly different to yours? That would be a turn up for the books, alright. Broken brain? You don't even possess the ability to deduct logic...

I'm not accusing anyone here in this thread of this, but it has to be said that there are many people who rag on GFWL simply because it is tied to Microsoft and/or the Xbox 360.

The PS3 fanboy in particular will go to great lengths to harm Microsoft's reputation, so that has to be kept in mind.

That's not to say that GFWL is 100% trouble-free, I'm sure that people do run into problems with it now and then. I'm just sceptical when I hear people talk about it like it's the absolute worst thing to happen to gaming in the entire history of gaming. lol

The locked DLC ads are the worst part of the Dirt series, GFWL I am fine with.

In the past I haven't had a problem with getting a game in DiRT 2 or DiRT 3 although I find the waiting in lobby, vetoing and waiting for players to load slightly annoying. Showdown uses Steam and I haven't played much of it online (seems to work much the same). However Showdown is not very good and I don't recommend it.

you are fuking stupid, you can't even use a program right, the local account has always been there, ALWAYS. Stop spreading missinformation just because your 2 neurones are not enough to learn how to use something. Damn failures.

I've no reason to believe that since it could easily have been patched in since I stopped using it so I could easily say you're the one spreading misinformation just to cover up your own lack of knowledge. Only, I'd say it with a lot less swearing and in a much more polite manner...

You may also be interested to know that neurons are responsible for sending and receiving information from the brain to the body's nervous system and back again - not interpreting that information. That role is performed by the neuroglia which then passes it's coding onto the neurons for transmission.

The problems i've had with GFWL is mostly to do with the update patching it needs everytime i play one of those games that rely on it. it gives you the option to either apply the update or quit the game. it typically takes 1-2 minutes to log in when working correctly (annoying when sitting there watching a 'busy' icon). i now run it in 'offline' mode, but it still requires an internet connection to use this option (??)

Given a choice i wouldn't use it at all, but i'm not given a choice (other than not using the game at all).

so sad to see this pathetic pos trying to make an excuse for failing, and why thank you for sharing information about neurones, after the stupidity you showed here i guess you needed to say something completely unrelated to avoid looking like the dumb ignorant you are.

nothing more pathetic than and ignorant denying his ignorance. gj
