the game works slow as hell and i was just wondering

Game ran surprisingly smooth for me at high settings 1920x1080 dx9 at around 35-55fps with not to many dips below that and looked amazing one of the best looking games I've played and packed with so much detail. After hearing all the horror stories of horrible optimization and low framerates even on highend hardware i wasn't sure how my 5770 would handle it but it plays it at a very satisfactory level in performance and level of graphics. It seems like the real killer is dx11 and trying to run it at highest settings possible with tesselation and depth of field on.
You need a really really good / high end computer to play it on DX11 with the adv DoF / Tesselation on.
I play it on my rig at 30-15 FPS on DX11 with no AA, Tesellation or Advanced DOF in 1080p (The visual difference is minimal but the performance hit is huge). It's pretty demanding and it's not optimized well so it's not your rig.
[QUOTE="NerubianWeaver"]Runs fine on mine. DX11 w/ Tesselation 1080p Very High + Advance PhysX. 38 - 54 FPS :) Stinger78What are you running? 470.
[QUOTE="Gammit10"]It's also a REALLY demanding game.Botodile
This. It's probably one of the most demanding games on the market. Lower your video settings.
I thought it was the most demanding game on the market? I can't think of anything harder to run.
Good god, do you really think anyone can read those specs with the coller you chose?DudeNtheRoomI've seen much worse, his is boarderline readable.
So what settings should work fine for me and make the game run smooth and silky
also i have a question: if pc cant handle such a game...how do consoles handle it anyway?? at what settings??
NOMAD_78
the game really makes it easy: you can only do whole sale video setting change; you cannot adjust every option as you wish.
so, just start from the low and go from there.
9800GTX is simply a beefed up 8800GTS 512, it's not powerful enough to play Metro with high setting at 1920x1080.
I don't know much about the console side of things, but I doubt that the console Metro 2033 runs at true 1080P.

You can more than double your frame rate by turning Vsync on. Yeah, I know, that sounds ridiculous but it really works!
I have a 460 GTX 768 MB OCed to 900 / 4400, 2.67 GHz dual core and 2 GB RAM. I can run Metro on "very high" DX11 averaging about 60 FPS (although this drops to around 25 - 30 FPS in outdoor areas).
This is only at 1440x900 though and I turned DOF off in the config files (I think it looks better without it and it's quite GPU intensive) so I guess that helps.
I don't know why everyone keeps saying how unoptimised it is. I'd say it's far better optimised than Crysis. Crysis on my system averages only about 30 FPS on "high" settings and looks much worse than Metro. Some caps I took:
So your running it at veryhigh try lowering it to high settings thats what i run it at framerate should be much higher if not some issue with your pc and the game.DJ_HeadshotYeah that works, but i think it should work fine on my current settings, its not like i use physx or dx10,dx11.
Don't sweat it. I have GTX 460 1GB in Sli and it still chugs at certain parts. It's just Metro.Elann2008Lol, Is there something that actually runs the game as high as possible? i dont know, like NASA or something? :P

Arma 2 is harder to run. I run it much better. Atleast the fps dont die when there i am in outdoor areas... OH WAIT!!I don't know why everyone keeps saying how unoptimised it is. You're comaring Crysis high to Metro 2033 very high? Crysis wins when it comes to outdoor enviroments, metro wins when it comes to indoors.
Can someone tell me what's so special about Metro's graphics? Granted iv'e only watched HD videos of the gameplay but they don't look like anything special to me. I'm just curious is all.

Are you trolling? Look at the screencaps in my post above and compare it to the Crysis ones.
Metro is the most graphically advanced game out at the moment. It has DX11 support, volumetric smoke, sun shafts, and heaps of other stuff which I forget the names of.
No game, not even Crysis, has graphics that wow me like Metro does. You can see every tiny crack in the walls and the smoke and lighting are so atmospheric. And when you go up to the surface you can see the sun shafts streaming through breaks in the clouds, snowflakes blowing past in the wind, street signs fluttering realistically in the breeze, etc. It's just so convincing.
I think Crysis impresses people more easily because the setting is a beautiful tropical island while Metro is set in gloomy post-nuclear Moscow. It's true that Crysis renders a much larger outdoor area but Metro has a lot more detail. Also, Metro has a more versatile engine capable of looking good on a wide range of hardware (including consoles) whereas Crysis really only looks good when maxed out on a high-end rig.

Crysis has sunshafts too but you only see them at very high settings, it really shines of you install a ToD mod (Time of Day) which only changes colors and the lighting at no performance cost.
Metro does have some brilliant lighting but the effects such as explosions are very poor, that's where Crysis takes the cake

Any "HD" video you see online is gonna to be low bitrate and suffer from compression artifacts even sp called 1080p videos and will not be an accurate representation of the games graphics as played in person on a decent pc. I only play on high dx9 and its by far ojne of the best looking games i've played Textures and lighthing in particular are the best i've seen in a game. Here are some pics that should convince you of metro 2033 graphics prowess bare in mind these are also compressed when uploaded through xfire so not %100 quality but much better then what a Streamed "HD" video will offer. DJ_Headshot
that is one of the reasons that make me say long live pc gaming every morning....
metro is a gr8 game though...very intense and immersive

Ill never know thanks to the lack of custom settings.
I run the game with an i7-960 + EVGA superclocked GTX580, 1080 + Highest settings, never dips below 30fps at it's worst moments and generally runs in the 60's. Used to play it on a Q9550 with a 4890, ran pretty well on high settings 1080. Just turn the settings to a minimum, should be playable.
I think im gonna upgrade the whole rig by the end of this year or jan 2012...thats the best way to beat demanding games like metro
i ve forced the v sync on usinf nvidia control panel it improved the performance just alittle bit....but improved the visuals massively...
i run the game at 1080p on high settings and the game reaches 35 fps at max and about 12 fps when fuzz is happening around...
