So, it won't be a personal computer. That makes sense that your dad doesn't want you to have a window pc. As for getting a job on the weekends, is it worth it to you? You might be better off getting a wii, ps2, or xbox(first one) with your own money.
EDIT: You could see if your parents will get you a console for a "back to school" gift. ;)

Iwouldn't say that a 8800gts with a amd 3500+ and 2gb ram >>>>>>>>>>>>>>8800gts with core 2 duo e6600 and 512mb ram.
unless its over 2gb ram you are looking at it mostly would be gpu>ram>cpu
The only way a Mac isn't for gaming is if you don't want it to be. It appears he most certainly would be using said Mac for gaming.Macs aren't for gaming because a lot of games are not released for the Mac operating system. That's probably the easiest I can put it to you.
How come your parents won't let you buy your own console? F*** that, dude, time to rebel!

Because Mac OS's have Direct3D, right?
The only way you can turn your mac into a proper gaming computer is to dual boot both OSX and Windows. Run games on Windows, and do all your data critical stuff on OSX.
Yeah, forget those games that use OpenGL; that's not a graphics API. And all those games running natively on the Mac? They aren't using Direct3D.Because Mac OS's have Direct3D, right?

Maybe your parents won't let you get a console/pc because you are so rebellious and ignorant. They are only doing what they think is best for you. And they DO know more than you. Remember that you will grow up and become a parent to as they were once kids like you. They understand. Trust what they say and honor them. If I had a child that talked as irrationally and disrespectfully as you, I would not think he deserved anything for gaming. You should be thankful that they will let you have a mac.jed-at-war

Just wrong... if parents were always right there would be no need for childprotective services. Your comments are based on what? Have you witnessed the OP speaking with his parents to be able to judge the attitude or tone he had with them?
I feel for the OP and think your overly-protective parents should let you buy a console with your OWN money, and I am a parent.

I did not say they are right, although one could think that I implied that. My main point is that he should respect them regardless. And I am speaking about what he is saying here, although I don't see how one could have so much anger and not express it in some way or another.
If they are "overly-protective", he should respect them even more because that means that I am right by saying that they only want what's best for him.
I do feel for the OP. It is just that no-one should talk about their parents like that. To their faces or behind their backs on a forum.

I am sorry but you are being overly niave if you don't think a teenager is going to vent when being told by his parents that he can't do something. IMO it is natural to do it here where they are anonymous, vs in the face of their parents. And because they are doing it here doesnt mean that it is being done in person.
I never once spoke back to my parents when growing up, but does that mean I didnt disagree with them in private or with my friends, give me a break...

I am 17, and my parents didn't let me have a console/any gaming device until I was 15 1/2. I disagread, but I didn't disrepect them. Since then I have had three GCNs and two Xboxs. (all of them except one xbox has broke on me :()

All I am saying is that he should calm down and respect his parents whether they are right or wrong. It sounds like they are doing what they think is right because they are concerned about him being addicted and ruining his life. I could easily see how that could concern them if they heard some statistics. College students play 3 - 4 hr a day when they should be studying!
