Topic title, I've ordered DDR3 1600 ram (3gb), but after reading some reviews it only lists support up to DDR3 1300 ram. The articles are oldish, so I wasn't sure if that still stands right now. Does anyone know if the 955 can support DDR3 1600, or will I have to cancel the order and roll back to 1300?

I'm not sure about this, but I know the modules will downclock to the speed it does support no problem. If it only supports 1333 speed then you may be able to get a refund and save some money with 1333modules (may or may not be worth it with shipping costs).

If you got 1600 you can oc to that. I dunno about other boards but my board has a 1:4 Divider for 1600.....i dont think most am3 boards have that divider. And if not you can run 1333 with tight timings, depending on the ram you bought.

So if I still do get the 1600 ram it'll just downclock to a useable speed with no problems? There's no real point cancelling the order and getting 1300 ram if this is the case, because it's only literally $5 cheaper haha.

Yeah, you can clock it down to 1333, that shouldn't be a problem. You may have to play with the timings a bit, but it'll work that's for sure.

The timings and that ram are pretty bad, usually DDR3 1600 has timings of 8-8-8-24 for average kits, there are few out there with 7-7-7-20 and the higher end kits even lower. (The Corsair kit)

The 955 is a AM3 processor so yea it supports 1600 but it mostly depends on your mobo/ram

Really? I know nothing about ram timings (guess that much was obvious), but I don't think it'll make a huge difference, I've just bought a new spec pc, just waiting for the parts from Techbuy to put it together.

Specs are:

AMD Phenom II 955 3.2ghz Socket AM3

Powercolor 4890 1gb GDDR5 (reference model)

OCZ 600w Stealth PSU

Gigabyte MA 770T-UD3P Socket AM3 motherboard

Antec 900 case

and the ram

Keeping the other specs listed in my sig that aren't being replaced by the above listed parts. Good rig? Costed about AU $1200.

Yeah, looks like a good rig, Phenom II is plenty fast, and the HD 4890s are awesome. Performance is better the higher frequency and lowest timings you can get. Usually it helps improve minimum framerates a bit, but it's not too drastic. Maybe something you can keep in mind next time you buy RAM,

That's a definite, haha. Still, I shouldn't notice a difference hopefully. And compared to my current setup, this new rig should be plenty fast.
