Half Life 2 was the better game. I still play this pretty often. I've beaten it about 7 times and i will keep playing it until i physically don't have the ability to do it anymore.

Far Cry was horrible in every way, i give it -5555/10. And this is weird because Crysis is one of my most favorite games.

FEAR was great, i remember hyping that game when only 60 peope had it on its wishlist and when the graphics were better than anything that had ever been seen.

Doom 3 was my most hyped game out of all of those. I really loved the graphics and the settings and the darkness and the horror. I remember the huge war between Valve fanboys and id fanboys arguing over what game had the better graphics. I miss those days :)

Hard to say, really, all 4 of them are very different types of FPS. Liked them all (havn't played f.e.a.r though). If one thing can be said about those years was that developer's where really pushing the bar onwhat FPS can be. Now everything play's like CoD (wich copied battlefield).

Doom 3 really pushed in terms of atmosphere, even tough people didn't like because it was too traditional or claustrophobic it defenitly had a superb vibe of dread and aprehension. Half-Life 2 pushed physics as we all know. Far Cry tried something very different.

I don't know, FEAR and HL2 were both typical of the era for me. If I had to choose one, I'd say FEAR tried fewer new tricks and stuck much closer to the corridor shooters I'd been used to. Even when I first played Doom 3, I felt like I'd played it a long, long time before in SS2 and other Id titles and AFAIC, Far Cry was definitely too innovative to be considered the epitome of the genre at the time.

HL2 - AMAZING FEAR - Great Farcry - Great Doom - Good I won't elaborate more but I thought that HL2 was the best of them all, and the rest are in order of which was best.

Half Life 2 gets my vote. Great story, addictive as hell, and may quite possibly be the only game other than Oblivion where I actually gave a damn about the mods. Not to mention that the physics system is awesome. I've yet to play FC and Doom 3, but I've played F.E.A.R. It was great. It's intense, but it was horribly lacking in actual fear and scares. Plus, it was ridiculously linear and the multiplayer was pretty bad. i reinstall it time to time, though it's not too special.

I still have to go for Half-Life 2, with Far Cry in 2nd place.

By the way, I like that 5th option, reminds me of my own Polls, I like to keep that option.

Its a good way to have people participate and see the results without having to choosein a Poll they are not qualified to answer.

Plenty of people use it as well.

Yeah, had a short discussion with a bud on Steam about the 2004-05 period of those games constituting a fantastic era for FPS. I did expect the vote to be a bit more balance however, lol...

Farcry ftw.

I actually liked HL2 more on the 1st playthough but play HL2 once and you've played it a million times. When I finished FC the 1st time I immediately restarted. I've never done that with any other shooter.

To be honest this is actually a rather hard choice because each game was rather great. Half-Life 2 would be a choice due to it being regarded as a very good game with a fan base that's off the charts ( The Gordon Freeman versus Mario vote here on Gamespot proved that) Farcry was a good game which I though was at it's peak in the very beginning, for the time it was stunning to see how the water and environment looked, Sadly the story drag it down at little. F.E.A.R. is great, It gives you one of the most intelligent A.I.'s aswell as chills down your spine whenever you see a girl in a red dress, The story was rather good aswell. Doom 3 was a love/hate thing among gamers that had played the previous ones, many thought the game was too slow and there was a lack of action while the rest of us thought it was a complete new take on the original Doom that was filled with atmosphere, scares and chainsaw wielding zombies. It also looks fairly well even by today's standards.

Far Cry > Half Life 2 > FEAR = Doom 3. I felt Far Cry took gameplay to a whole new level while Half Life 2 seemed to step away of it in favour of better story telling.

IMO the list miss The Chronicles Of Riddick: Scape From Butcher's Bay. Is the shooter with the BEST character and BEST story from the ones in the 2004-2005 period and the graphics at the time were almost on par with Doom 3 ones.

For the gameplay, I liked Far Cry>F.E.A.R.>Doom 3>>>Half-life 2. However, The Resurrection Of Evil gunplay was even better than the one in Doom 3. HL-2 is a weird case since the gunplay didn't feel as in the other shooters, in fact is more like a hybrid shooters oriented to mix direct action with puzzles, and the gravity gun overshadows the use of the other weapons.

F.E.A.R. is explosive, but is hard to play the game more than a couple of times since the locations are way too repetitive. Far Cry story was bland, but the replay value is the highest from these games, and the game is really hard in "realistic" mode. The visuals were amazing, too.

1.Far cry, unique classic story and setting, awesome combat and great looking eviroments! 2.Doom 3. lots of monstertypes, taking place ina space station and there are logs to listen, plus combat that requires you to be ruthless and dodge enemies attacks, for a sci fi fan like me the game was crazy. However it felt pretty dissapointing when it came out in comparison with games of that area but right now i like it so much! 3.Fear when i first played fear i figure out it was not much of a singleplayer compaign, great graphics with simple corridor level design and some pretty good scares with repettive enemy types. Still better than fear 2, i played fear and the expansions many ,many times. 4.Half life 2 was an ok game but not quite what i expected. I am a huge half life fan but the second games was kinda meh.The first part was good and it felt like half life but after black mesa and we dont go to ravenholm it started to slowly take the downhill. There were pretty stupid puzzles and the level design felt cheaper. The "better weapons" element that is given in all fps was traded for the gravity gun and other weapons that have a specific usage, such as that item that spawns antilions or the rocketlauncher that you use exclusively for helicopters and other heavy armor vehicles. The dissaponting part is that in comparison with all the previous games, half life 2 had the worst ai and the worst weapons. It terms of fps the gameplay did not feel like it could stand up to the previous mentioned games plus the combat was not a solid as half life back in 1998, that alone killed the fps element for me!

Judging from Polls I've had in the past, I was pretty sure HL2 was gonna run the competition to the ground.

Still, good Poll, though it looks like HL2 is still the fan favorite here at GS PC forum.

Why is that? Not everyone is interested in all these games, though they are all FPS's (probably the reason there are only 4 votes)

Nice to have an out option for those who can't make a fair vote but want to see the results instantly.

Half-Life 2 was rather "meh", in my eyes.

Weak gunplay really killed it. It was still a good game nonetheless (with a fantastic sci-fi setting) but shooting gun in that game felt weak.

My vote goes to F.E.A.R.

Had the poll offer more inputs then I would of included Riddick, UT2004, Battlefield 2 and COD2.
