I read an article here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/gamestop_study_claims_game_downloads_won%E2%80%99t_be_viable_until_2014

It states how Gamestop claims people still prefer to buy hardcopy games but the ability to download in today's gaming world is huge, especially with PC games. So it made me wonder, how do most of you purchase the majority of your games?

All hardcopy... the only reason I even have Steam on my PC is because Empire: TW put it there...

I like to get all my games off steam if it is available.

It is quick, easy cheaper (usually) and keeps everytjhing together making backup of games a breeze on an external drive.

I do both depending on the Situation and how I feel. Direct 2 Drive sucks and ill never use it. But I love Steam and I have no problems buying games off of it.

Hard copy whenever possible. If there is a Steam sale or something, then download.

Boxxed discs for me .. but occassionally I can be swayed to purchase via download if it's obscure, indie, or cheap (read real cheap)

Hardcopy, that way if your computer suddenly crashes big time and I need to completely reformate it or I loose my password and have forgotten the answer to the retrive password question, I can still install it and play it without buying it again.

Only if it is cheap(er) and relatively small. My 768kbps is not ideal for large downloads.

It makes me real nervous paying for downloads. I got screwed with Microsoft Office 2007. Also, I don't have the fastest broadband connection speed. It takes about 2 hours to download a gig.

this^^ I really don't have anymore room for game cases.... Steam is just sooooo much more convenient.

Prefer hard copy but like it that i can just download the game if need be after installing it. I like Impulse more than Steam but mostly because of the amount of trust Impulse/Stardock gives to its customers.

Hard copy, always. Either from a local retail store or from Amazon.

In general hardcopy. My only exception is a game that I view as entirely an online-only game. In that case, since online communities eventually die, there'd be no reason for me to reinstall years later. But for a singleplayer experience? A disc. I actually want to be playing these games for years to come. I'm still using my Civilization III disc, and that's from 2001.

Hardcopy.

Then I just rip out the contents into ISO format and use daemon tools so that I never have to touch the disc again (all my game discs except for StarCraft are scratch free)
