People still talk about DAO's combat like it was the next best thing to sliced bread. It was underwhelming for me.. the animations were extremely slow and most of the times a yawn-fest. The pathing was questionable. Anything can improve upon that, even DA2. I like the new changes. Now, I can finally feel like I'm in control of the battle.Elann2008I always felt like I was in control of the battle in the first. I got to focus on all 3 of my characters, instead of just one. Something tells me you were not playing the way it was supposed to be played.
[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]Oh it is shorter. It's confirmed by Bioware "Longer than Awakenings, shorter than Origins" And stop responding to me, I don't care about DA II anymore, no reason in getting worked up in a game i don't care for and will never buy.Roland123_basicyou seemed to be very interested in bashing it and letting everyone know you arent going to buy it for "not caring".... please link to me the origin of that quote, that it will be longer than awakenings and shorter than origins. no link/proof from an official bioware source.... its just a rumor and can be ignored like most other internet forum rumors these days.
Some BioWare dev posted it on their forums, I saw it months ago.
But the original was so long because of useless padding. I've played entire games shorter than the bloody Deep Roads... Quantity over quality.
I don't think it gonna be a bad game but its sad to see that they change so many good thing from DA. They should have do it on another game.

You can still focus on your other three companions. That option is still there.
Hmm maybe bio ware missed the fact that the original was a spiritual successor to BG so maybe just maybe it is supposed to seem like dice are being rolled behind the scene just maybe."The Making of DA 2 - Part 1" has been posted, gives a decent amount of background to start. Link to video

It was mentioned in an interview, too - a lady said something along the lines of trying to make the game more focused with less fluff/padding, specifically. Granted that BioWare doesn't program open-world, DA:O did however allow you to select each area of the game map in the order you wished to run them.
And BioWare > Bethesda for game patches. Oblivion had > 10,000 bugs after the last Bethesda patch - if it wasn't for Kivan writing those three mods of his, you'd still have those bugs.
Loved Dragon Age and Awakenings for PC, I wish they would just keep the combat and most the things the same personally.
BUT... Bioware has never made a game I didnt like, so I will try the game first before making any opinions about it.
Sure the videos and screenshots ive seen have not impressed me at all, but this is why we wait and PLAY the game before saying it sucks or is fail.
Sure the idea of more arcadey combat instead of the strategic combat from before makes me worried, but I have an open mind and trust in Bioware. lets just hope this isnt the first Bioware game I dont like.

I just said that these ar two different types of game.
Origins and Awakening are still broken , Patch 1.05 is in the works, and completly broken endings of Origins are still not fixed since release.
Awakenings has still a few game breaking bugs. Bugs are normal I don`t` mind them at all, so patch support is something that is not needed on a working game and is not something that should impress. After the SI expansion Oblivion was bug free for me.
If the devs don`t fix it, the community will. And about the patching, Bioware managed to break more with their patches for Origins, than Bethesda did with Oblivion.
On 1.2 stealing was broken, on 1.3 loading times and save corruption, 1.4 was a complete disaster with DLC authorisation and import. The official forums are full with technical complaints. The game has over 200 major bugs, it doesn`t make it a bad game.
I never had to read my game endings on the internet, still Origins was great, and such things happen. Pushing the responsibility on users is however not a way, when the post- epilogue save was broken by them, and then finally admitting it needed so much time.
As I already said, still a fantastic game.
I'd like some PC footage with PC interface please. While I'll miss the strategic gameplay of DAO, I'll reserve judgment for DA2 until its out. Looks slick though.

Oblivion bug-free without the mods? Not by a long shot - check out the Oblivion Wiki everyone quotes from on the Bethesda forum, and you'll see all sorts of comments about what was fixed.
I ran Oblivion with ~ 70 or so mods, with OBMM, Wrye Bash, and the Script Extender. The UOP, UOMP, and USIP mods made all the difference in-game. And the USIP was specifically to fix the SI expansion.
Not saying I don't believe it, but do you have a link for Patch 1.05? There's talk all over the place that 1.04 would be the last patch.:o

Cant find them thru their clutterd forums, I stopped playing the game anyway here are people disscusing them:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/dragonage/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-56724649&pid=950916
since 1.04 is completely broken for some people there should be probably more :
http://social.bioware.com/forums/forum/1/topic/9/index/4859419/5
There are rumors about another full realease of DAO like a Goty, not sure if the Ultimate edition is available on all platforms but the console versions are equally broken and people are concerned about their DA2 imports.

Thanks for the info.:)
On Patch 1.04, the DLC authorization problem did hit me, but that was because one of the file-writes failed and the patch stopped without finishing.
I wrote a blog about it - what I did was an uninstall then a reinstall, which was 1.04, so the added content was re-authorized after I booted the game.
2 words: DO WANT! Between Deus Ex: HR, Witcher 2 and Dragon Age 2, my RPG thirst will be sated 3 times over next year :Dthe_ChEeSe_mAn2
I've pre-ordered W2 and DA2 but I really want Deus Ex as well. The game looks stunning and it's got me all hyped up. Hopefully, I'll set aside some money for it just before release so I can get the pre-order bonuses.
But yeah these three games are definitely gonna be the killer RPGs of 2011.
Because it feels like you're watching an interactive movie, and not role playing a character.[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"][QUOTE="Roland123_basic"] Sheppard is voiced in the ME games and they give you just as much choice/even more choice in conversations than DAO did.... so what is the problem?AiurProtoss
then dont play it you asscock. its simple really. you too butthurt?? then dont play it.
Nice you sure told him I mean who can refute such a post?
Is this really what the pc community is coming too?
What does it matter? I don't agree with a lot General says, but I personally can see why he is concerned. I don't like what I have seen so far either. We didn't need a voiced main character, we are can only focus on one character at a time, the combat look pretty meh at this point. This game is not looking too wonderful and it looks worse than the first from what I have seen. I love Bioware though, and I won't totally right it off until I play it myself.

Agreed, minus the whole playing this part. I didn't love Dragon Age Origins enough to give this sequel the time of day, especially after all I've heard about it. Removing the iso-cam? Really Bioware? :| I wish they would focus more on Mass Effect 3.

Other than BioWare's RPGs, the only other RPG really worth running in its place would be The Witcher.
Only CD Projekt RED can match BioWare's prowess in the genre.

I think that does more to show the sad state of the genre more then anything else. To me BioWare seems to have really become stale over the decade, there games just kind of a copy and paste from the last. Their stories have become incredibly predictable with the story acrs all following a similar route, they design gameplay to be at an acceptable level and no more, they rarely try anything fresh in their games and when they do it usually fails and rather then try and improve upon it they simply scarp it, and their QA has just been horrible lately which really is surpising because that's something they always put a lot of pride in.
Just seems like BioWare is lacking balls, they've got all this money, talent, and industry levarage and yet they continue rolling the same thing out on the generic hero cinematic RPG assembly line. Nothing they do is innovative or remarkable and on the rare occasion they do try to think outside the box they either lack the inguenity or the patietence to see it through to perfection. The reason Jade Empire is my favorite BioWare game is because they did try to do something fresh and innovative with various aspects of the game ranging from the setting and story to a couple of the mechanics. These days I see BioWare as vastly overrated, the one thing they do truly great is characters and dialogue and that's accomplished by simply having a fulltime staff of profesional writers rather then letting developers, project managers, and producers scrap stuff together in their downtime.

You're stating that like it's a fact.I can't wait to check out Guild Wars 2, Diablo III, Torchlight II, Project Dark, Dead State, Dungeon Siege III, new LOTR RPG , Two Worlds II, Neverwinter, Hunted, ... Bioware is not the only company making RPG's.
I'm ofcourse not buying them all, but they all look to be RPG's of great quality, and certanly worth running.

I can't afford to preoder games right now so I will just buy them as they get released :)Like i said the first time, this is an epic failure on all levels. The combat was the best thing about the game, you take that away and well...GeneralShowzerYou kidding? The combat looks to only have been improved. They took away nothing, only added. The only fault you could have is due to preference in that they no longer have Origins stories. That makes perfect sense since this is not Dragon Age: Origins...
You could also choose to take issue with VA for the protagonist, but it's obvious why that was added. I'm calling it, this game will be excellent; this video really threw down the gauntlet and hit the naysayers hard.

Awesome list, minus a few. I'm buying the majority of those, I was just reading up about Dead State and that game looks really great if it delivers on its promises. But you are right, there are plenty of good RPGs out there. BioWare is a great dev, but that doesn't mean their games are unparalleled. Please Log In to post.
