Hello. so dragon age origins crashes randomly, mostly when i try to use bombs. for example, i am trying to ambush a bandit group in lothering, and since i am playing on nightmare and they are quite a tought bunch of SoB's, i need some extra damage. well, i was playing for over 4 hours now and no crash, but then when i tried to bomb them with a soulrot bomb the game just stops working. then i tried to restart the game. i attempted my tactic again, and AGAIN when i try to use the soulrot bomb the game stops working. the game is currently at version 1.03.
Any help would be appreciated as bombs are quite a vital part of being a rogue since they can be used while invisible at rank 2 of stealth. :/

It's because Bioware has awesome game support and go the extra mile to make sure their customers are'nt playing broken games.

Be comforted by the fact that DA2 is out soon and as such DAO will most likely not receive further patches even if previous ones did'nt get the job done.

/sarcasm off :?

Try tossing other bombs and see if it's bombs in general or just this one. What are your specs?

Redownload the 1.3 patch as separate and instal it again. You need NET framework 3.5 instaled to. Have no idea which OS you are using btw.

If you are really unlucky you will crash when using tempest, blizard and inferno spell , and holly smite as warrior - you or Alistair. Post your OS please if possible.

Since we know nothing about your computer or setup, here's another thing to try: If you're on ATI graphics, update to latest Catalyst drivers. They fixed some Dragon Age stuff in the latest driver.

After all the driver updates and general all-arround problem solving tehniques try this:

Create a shortcut of your Dragon age exe on the desktop (if you haven't got one already).

Right click --> Properties--> inside the target text box add a -dx9 after the quotes. So it should look like this :

"C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole -dx9

You can ignore the developerconsole part if you dont want the in-game console tho..only the -dx9 thing should be there.

After this, if it still crashes try setting the affinity of the game to only 2 cores instead of 4 from the task manager while the game is running.

How is it complicated? You need to press like, 3 buttons and type in some text. But hey if you want to stop playing instead of fixing it, be my guest. :P

At the risk of coming across as a bit of a jerk here... until you post the information we've asked for, that's the best help you'll get. We can't tell you how to fix your problem if we don't know anything at all about the computer you're playing on, the OS you're in, and if your drivers are up to date or not. Right now, for all I know the reason for the crashes is that your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements and you're screwed. :P

Not me...i just kind of accidently hijacked the thread...... I was thinking about getting the game until i saw the TC post and all your answers to him. I just dont want those problems, so i will avoid the game at all cost.

I suffer a similar problem as TC, crashes that seem to coincide with AoE effects. Has there been any talk from Bioware of continued support of this product? NWN got a ton of patches over the course of 6 years or so, yet DA seems to be lucky to get a handful...

Whoooops...! My bad. I played DA:O and Awakenings, and had nowhere near these issues. That's why I keep asking for OP's system specs, because no two PCs are the same, and what happened to him isn't necessarily going to happen to you.

Hey, my specs are nvidia GTS250 512mb, intel core Q8400, 3 ram, windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.

i am HIGHLY doubtful it's because of my system specs. a while back, i had another copy of DAO, but i forgot it in a bus... never to be seen again. back then, i had the same computer i have now, and DAO was updated to 1.03 and it worked perfectly without crashing once.

You are behind a couple of patches - Patch 1.04 has been out for a while, link for the DAO patch info is below.

The best solution for the completely broken patches is a clean game instal. Then dont instal 1.1,1.2.1.3, but only 1.4.

1.4 can be broken to if I remember well it`s a problem on WIN7 64 bit.

If instaling Awakenings it will instal 1.3. As I said overwrite with a a separate 1.3.

This is the PC section of the official forum :

Is this the Ultimate edition?

Which DLC do have ?
