DAO because you get a party and the gameplay is more fun. With a party, you have banter, backgrounds, personal rivalries, and character depth. In Oblivion, it's just the PC wandering around alone. There's no tactical combat because it's just the PC vs. everyone else, no party balancing/tactics. You really have to work as a team to succeed in DAO whereas in Oblivion you just level up and solo everything.

I also found the spells in Oblivion boring. More variety in DAO.

texture quality maybe? DA:O is superior in terms of art direction (even though it's pale compared to that of The Witcher)...Oblivion's gameworld might look pretty, but is simply bland without character...

btw, though DA:O isn't what Bioware advertised it to be, but I'm happy with the game; if anything, it's on its way to become one of the "best RPG" ever in the minds of newer generation of gamers, far more deserving than Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Mass Effect.

Yep, DOA > Oblivion. Oblivion gets old real quick compared to DOA, since you can have a party and all in DOA. Plus the story in DOA is epic

Their seems like their been a lot of DAO threads vs (insert RPG game).

If people are looking to buy the game but are unsure if they will like it, then it would be better to phrase your threads to something like...

"Dragon Age plays like" and not "Dragon Age vs"

"Dragon Age is similar to" and not "Dragon Age or (insert game), which is better"

A simple topic like "What games play like Dragon Age?" would help you get a better grasp of what the game is like instead of a thread with a topic like this.

Story : Dragon Age
Writing : Dragon Age
Sound/Music : Dragon Age
Technical Graphics : Oblivion (w/ mods)
Art Direction : Dragon Age
Gameplay : Depends what you like
Game World : Dragon Age (It is a believable world, fleshed out with good characters, back story and side quests)
Character Development : Dragon Age (Oblivion's development is hardly existent, let alone coherent)

Best RPG to buy for the PC this "generation" : The Witcher (though, out of Dragon age and Oblivion, its Dragon age by miles)

Oblivion.....I know I am gonna get bashed for this, but choose Oblivion if you want top notch mods, first person perspective and non party based gameplay (though you can still get companions with A.I.)

I'd say get the Oblivion/Bioschock value pack, and come back to Dragon Age when it price drops.

Go with Dragon Age if you want a nice RPG experience.

Oblivion if you want GTA with swords.

Umm, there is no evidence of that... Zenimax has started a new MMO studio, it could be elder scrolls, but it won't be TES5.

You are comparing a game from 2009 to one from 2006. Of course people are going to find Oblivion boring; many people have played it into the dirt. However, I think that most people have yet to even finish Dragon Age.

Dragon Age Origins ALL the way.. Unmodded I can't consider Oblivion a rpg what so ever.. But some psudeo Action adventure game with the barest amount of wrpg qualities and boring ass combat. Storywise.. The game reminds me alot like the Warhammer Fantasy universe.. Where the main bad guys (The Blight/ Dark Spawn), are very much like the Chaos.

Oblivion. The scale, the epicness... everything.

Dragon age: incredible, deep stories, deep characters... and so on.

I choose Oblivion, because it simply is one of the best RPGs I've ever played, coming from a company that's been making those for well over 11 years now.

Haven't played Dragon Age, but I have played Oblivion... and it didn't do anything except convince me that the Bethesda of today either has no talent or doesn't bother to utilize it.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want a strong RPG that plays a bit like the older games like Baldur's Gate and the like, then DAO is your clear choice. It's the better "pure" western RPG experience, complete with a party, class and skil balancing and some real character development. If you'd rather an action game/FPS style game with heavy RPG elements that plays a bit more like Mass Effect in alot of ways, then Oblivion might be more your ticket. It has a much weaker storyline and development, but has a stronger emphasis on the first person view action. No party balancing, no party at all for that matter (unless you count the occasional summoned lackey). The number crunching in Oblivion is also a bit more obvious, IMO. Both games are good, but which is better would depend on your preferences. Personallhy, I'm finding DAO to be better, but that's me.

Oh man Oblivion, just... Oblivion.

Dragon Age is a game you play through and beat maybe 2 or 3 times, Oblivion is a game you play for ages and keep coming back to.

Oblivion GOTY edition is super cheap as well

You should go for dragon age origins, it got higher reviews and it is much newer than oblivion. However I think that you could more play time out of oblivion. My friend had that on the 360 and has clocked in hundreds of hours gameplay time.

both has its own charm. and if you are free of budget, go for both, oblivion has tons of good mods out there along with expansion packs. It will occupy you for at least 200 hours. (lots of replayability value.)

DAO will offer much more intense and deep story, yet after 40-50 hours, its replayability value gets completely dried. so, it depends, if you like free roaming open world fantasy or linear story-driven rpg.

DA:O now and Oblivion (plus mods) when your done. Both are great experiences and you should try not to miss out on either one but to me DA has the edge (for a few of the listed above)...

DA:O I find is the better of the two. Oblivions open ended world is nice at first but becomes boring because u get lost in the never ending void of walking about doing nothing for most of the time. DA is linear and takes you along the story, which to me is more of a classic RPG. There are few nit picks with DA that bugged me like:-

why would you lock a mushroom in a chest?

why can't you jump?

why didn't they set auto pause in combat? (needs to be slected in menu)

why didn't they tell you about the TAB button from the start? (very important for finding hidden items)

But its a very good game.
