That's what I figure will happen.Just wait, 2011 comes around and it will somehow get delayed...AGAIN!

Duke Nukem is like Piranha 3D. Both are generally stupid but you just have so much fun with them. Not every game need be Mass Effect or Dragon Age. Sometimes you just want to have a bloody good time! I will definitely get this game. After 13 years, I think they deserve my 50 bucks! =D
Surely that's because it's a generic console FPS.
Regeneration (and don't tell me about that EGO crap. It's the same thng). No health bar, the screen just turns red when you get hurt. Modern-style sprint. Gamepad controls. YOU CANT CARRY MORE THAN TWO WEAPONS HURRR.
It's everything bad that happened to the FPS genre.
NThenIHadSumTea
- gaining health when dealing damage is not the same thing. It encourages combat, not taking cover.
- there's a big EGO bar. Who cares if the screen turns red? It's a problem when they also throw strawberry jam in your eyes, like in MW2.
- what's a modern-style sprint? Fatigue or what?
- and gamepad controls. Surely that's because they used gamepads. Or are we complaining about button prompts?
Carrying only two weapons is a shame though.

I LOL'ed at the strawberry jam in your eyes. It's so true..Now, Im all hyped for the game, aliens and naked women yay, but Im worried that the long development cycle will make the game fail in term of graphics and other departments. Does anyone care to explain how they are going to bypass this?

Considering the fact that there were literally hundreads of people playing and enjoying the game at the PAX live stream, that alone dissolves the point made by haters that its going to be another Daikana. Case closed about that, if it would have failed, those hundreats of gamers would have not enjoyed the game as they did there.
Now in terms of graphics, they look good, we saw some from the low quality live stream, and they look up to date, though ofcourse not as updated as Killzone or Crisys, but nontheless good, and we still need to see HD gameplay to make a valid opinion.
Gameplay wise, like i said above, seems good.
Realistically, i expect a 8.5 out of it, hopefully a 9. :P
So, all things considered, its going to rock.

If it doesn't look like the 2001 trailer with the casino strip, the gunboat ride, the floating giant head aliens & the hillbilly, I'll wait until the price drop ; I want THAT game, which is forever for me. I don't mind if the franchise realse soemthing else of the franchise but I'd mind passing it under an awaited title with expectations set a while back.
I didn't care 10 years ago and I don't care now. Games that get delayed once or twice show the trouble in the development cycle usually by having a lot of issues. 10 years of delays? I can't imagine this being anything but insanely overhyped and horrible.

My BS meter went crazy.
One of the biggest behemoths of this generation has been released a month and a week ago following that very development cycle.
TF2 has been in development for 9 years.
Wow, talk about disappointing. The game looks like typical watered-down, mainstream garbage to me. The slow run speed and weak jump height, the limit on how many weapons you can carry, the lame health regeneration, the stupid scripted sequences replacing real exploration and interactivity... Boo. It seems as though absolutely nothing has been carried over from the original game, and the result looks just like any other generic FPS. Even the shooting looked dull. Major boo. Essentially, it took them thirteen years to get to where we already were six years ago. What a joke. I hope it flops.
Hey, what do you get when you mix everything people hated about Halo with some cheesy nudity and lame stabs at toilet humor? Well, I don't know, but I'll tell you what you don't get: my money.

That is someACTION-PACKED game! Shooting all those fighter jets was something. The boulder rolling down made me thing of Tomb Raider.

1. Didn't play the game.
2.Obviously didn't check out the FULL PAX live stream.
3. Have no idea of its features, or its gameplay in general.
4. Refuse to aknowledge the fact that FUN is subjective, and no one gives a f-k. Because IF the game will be fun, it will be played. Proof of that is that old games from the 90's are still being played despite so many cutting age new games.
Why i know you didn't check out the entire stream? That's not health generation, if you don't kill, you'll be killed. :P

-Okay, that doesn't sound bad
-As long as I don't go blind and slow the hell down when I'm hurt, I'm okay with this too

My interest in this game peaked in 2001. Unfortunately, it has waned over the years.
I like Gearbox as a developer, but I'm far more interested in hearing about Aliens: Colonial Marines at this point.

Why i know you didn't check out the entire stream? That's not health generation, if you don't kill, you'll be killed. :P
1. Playing the game was not required to make the observations I made.
2. That's where I made my observations. Obviously.
3. Except for the features and gameplay I observed in the PAX videos.
4. If "fun" is subjective, then you can't prove or disprove that a game is fun. Therefore, your logic eats itself. That said, the game does not look "fun" to me, based on the observations I made regarding the PAX videos I watched. People still play old games because they offer something newer games do not, and since the majority of people interested in the follow-up to Duke3D are old-school gamers, it makes sense that the new game should, in following in its predecessor's footsteps, be more "old-school" in its design, which it clearly is not.
And yes, it's health regeneration. Just because you gain health by killing enemies rather than by standing around doesn't make it not health regeneration. It's still a lame way of holding the player's hand so they never have to actually watch their health or find medkits. It caters entirely to newer or less skilled players, and rips off the old-school gamers, to whom the series is most relevant.
The full game might end up being half-way decent overall, but what the videos have shown is downright terrible as a follow-up to Duke3D, and a stab in the back to those of us who've been waiting for it since 1997. It's kind of like waiting for the follow-up to Metallica's "...And Justice For All" and getting "The Black Album". And look, I haven't been expecting DNF to be a "second coming" level release or anything, but I hoped it would at least avoid most of the "streamlined" (read: dumbed-down) gameplay mechanics that drag down today's FPSs, and instead it seems to have adopted those on every level.
Next time, come to the table with real arguments instead of just attempting to discredit me with your empty assumptions.

1. Playing the game is necessary, so you can base your opinion on something more valid rather then a low quality live-stream, you can not judge how a game will be played, if you have not played it yourself, hence the saying "Don't judge it, before you play it".
2. Yeah, my bad. :P
3. Which is a small fraction, and ofcourse only have ben seen on a low quality live-stream with a shaky camera. That's hardly a valid point to base a entire opinion on.

My opinion is perfectly valid, thank you. Forming an opinion about something that is clearly demonstrated fact is neither "biased" or "prejudiced," and what I have a problem with are things that are clearly demonstrated in the PAX videos. That includes the slow run speed, low jump height, the fact that you can only carry two weapons, and the regenerating health system. These are all serious negative points in my opinion, and I don't have to play the game or see high-quality video to observe them, just as I don't have to actually go see the Mona Lisa or get a high-res photo of it to know that she's a brunette, or that I think it's a boring painting.
Since you haven't actually addressed any of the points I've made about the game, I'm going to assume you are just arguing with me for the sake of defending it. Hey, I can understand that, and I'm sorry I don't share your enthusiasm for the game, but my opinion, based on the points I've made, is that it looks stupid, watered-down and boring. I wish I had a different opinion too, believe me. This certainly isn't the way I wanted to see the long-awaited sequel to one of my favorite games of all time treated. If you are taking the stance of trying not to form an opinion yet, then more power to you, but don't try to discredit my opinion just because you don't happen to like it.

What exactly about it is groundbreaking? What's new? What's in this that I can't get from other shooters or games? Crude and immature humour?
Exactly. All this has going for it is the amount of hype surrounding its incredibly long development cycle.
You have never played Duke 3D if you're wondering why people are so hyped.
What we saw yesterday - not to mention the leaked info from last year - shows this is the sequel every Duke fan has been waiting for.
Blame Gearbox for weapon selection though. It originally had a HL2-styIe weapon menu.

What exactly is groundbreaking? New? I don't care, you don't understand. If its fun, and if it gets at least a 8 from major gaming sites, i am buying it, regardless of any inovation, regardless of anything new because the fundamental reason of a game is entertainment, and one must play it to see if it is entertaining.
Do you comprehend now the basic understanding of subjectivity? You may have high standards for a game, but that does not mean other people have the same standards you do, that's why we have human diversity. I hope you understand, because i'm to old to argue with strangers on the net...

I'm sorry, without you playing the game itself and judging it from small live-stream low quality videos is what bothered me.. But i guess i have to stop here, since now i understand what your saying, well made constructive post.
Amazing news.
Although Gearbox tampering with it leaves me skeptical, I doubt any developer would be stupid enough to throw away such an occasion to earn a name.
The limit of 2 weapons at time is the only thing that bothers me of what we've seen so far.

I'm not really too worried about Gearbox. They have made some excellent games, IMO.
The one thing i'm irritated about is the changes the made to the game due to the consoles. Duke has always been a PC game and should have remained a PC game.
I pulled this quote out of system wars. Some big 3DR developer posted it at shacknews.
Yeah, blame us for it if you want. It may change in the future and I don't know what will happen with it, but it was us. I stand by it too, as you cannot discount designing games for a modern world and part of that world is consoles where the bulk of the sales can be. And on those consoles you have a controller. We tried for a long time to support lots of guns but we simply could not find a nice way to map it to a controller, despite trying 4-5 designs. We gave it enough time and decided to stop swimming against the current and adopt what was basically the "standard".

Seriously?
^This is a wheel. It was invented thousands of years ago.
It amazes me how some people cannot grasp such a single design.
That^ is the concsole version as far as i remember in the pc version the hud is diffirent and not a wheel.dakan45
That's the point.
If they wanted to make a decent control scheme instead of limiting the weapon choice to two at a time, they would have put numerical selection on PC and a wheel on consoles.

Forgive the faulty logic, it was all the excitement.
At least the devs aren't going to make us their beech.
In my eyes, it doesn't need a good review. The mere fact that it was able to push out of the gates after all this time is reason enough for me to get this game.
