Dungeon Siege 3 has better graphics and combat than Diablo 3. And Dungeon Siege 3 controls (contrary to popular belief) are not bad at all on keyboard and mouse, and on an Xbox-PC controller they are great! Diablo 3 has maybe better sound effects and loot, but that's about it. Yet, Diablo 3 is so hyped just because of nostalgia factor and being a Blizz game, whereas Dungeon Siege 3 is overlooked because the combat is very different (i.e. better) than its predecessors, and some people just don't like the difference for whatever reasons. What do you all think?

Dungeon Siege 3 fails on the most important thing: co-op multiplayer.

I thought Dungeon Siege 3 was a failure? Lots of reviews said it wasn't as good as part 1 or 2? As for Diablo 3, yes it's hyped but it's because Diablo 1 and 2 were one of the best Action-RPG in gaming history. I will love it no doubt, hopefully it will be as good as D2.

Don't believe everything you read. Best to try out games for yourself.

This thread makes sense.. Comparing a full game that has been out for awhile.. To one in which people can only play a very limited beta ormore akin to a demo..

Laughable. Aside from the writing, Obsidian really dropped the ball on this one. Something as simple as having tight controls on the PC was totally abandoned. It's a bad game, and I'm an Obsidian fan. :/

HAHAHAHHAHAHHA. So you are basing your whole "review" and opinion on a DEMO and a BETA. And then you tell ME to try the game out myself?

Very unlikely. I have never played a game where the demo was good but the full version was bad.

It usually works this way with games: Good demo = good game (very likely) Bad demo = good game (it's possible because demo was limited and didn't give a true idea of the whole game) Bad demo = bad game (more than likely) Good demo = bad game (very unlikely)

I don't know. I played dungeon siege 3 and it's not that great. Granted I thought it was a decent game but Diablo 3 is way better. Just what I've seen from the beta is great so far. My only complaint would be the lack of customization as far as skills/abilities go but given that it's only a very limited part of the game I don't think(or I hope it won't) be much of a problem in the actual game.

True, but does a game really change from Beta to final?

That much?

No thats the case, most betas I have been in say for instance a online rpg your able to play immense amounts of the game.. This is more or less a very small demo.... Its really not a excuse because I am not sure how Diablo 3 will turn out one way or the other.. Outside of the graphics (which I liked alot) the game hardly showed much if we are going to compare it to around the same point in Diablo 2.

I am just saying that it is kind of ridic that people are claiming that this game sucks, when it is such a small portion that they are playing. And it is a BETA at that. The point of a Beta is to test and fix bugs that are found during a close as possible environment to its final release. The point of a demo is to promote selling and of course it will be as polished as possible.

It doesn't matter to me if people like it or not. Hell, people might be right and maybe it will be a bad game. BUT judging that it is a bad game / boring game from this extremely limited open beta is crazy talk.

Dungeon Siege 3 plays very well with a controller. I wish people would treat as an action RPG like Jade Empire, because that's what it is, not a Diablo clone.

I bought Dungeon Siege on sale a month or two back and it's a mediocre game. While I'm not all that impressed by the Diablo 3 Demo / Beta It is (in my opinion of course) a lot better than Dungeon Siege 3.

I just watched a friend play the Diablo 3 Beta. Now I am one of the biggest Diablo fans there is, and will be buying the game Day 1, but the graphics seemed a bit.....hard to explain...SMOOTH? As in they should be a bit more crisp? Does anyone else notice this? I'm not saying it looks bad, just that the first gameplay videos I saw they looked crisper, and on my friend's PC they looked smoothed out, or washed out....???

The washed out, could be his monitor settings, the other could be he didn't have all the graphical settings turned up.. IDK.

Nvidia has AO which makes it pop more. Does he use AMD/ati?

I also hear that there might be an ultra setting in the graphics options, on final release.

Guess we will all see in less than a month.

His monitor was fine and all the settings were at MAX, it just seemed like it had a blur effect on the edges... Like you said, maybe the final version will have better options.

Overall the story and playercharacters were good and well done in DS3. But the game itself sometimes felt like a grind and some of the combat was just not fun. Still it did have few interesting parts, that made going through the game worth. Personally Id say Alpha Protocol was better done then DS3, but thats just my opinion. As to Diablo 3, to early to tell and Ill make my judgmentafter expansion comes out, because you know there will be a expansion.

It's just the overall design. Just so..limited. You can't even pan the camera in and out and you're stuck with weird camera angles.. It's like someone is holding my neck in one position and I can't move it to peer around. I've tried it with a controller but I didn't find it to help make the gameplay better. Not to mention the user interface, button mapping, and menus are a huge mess.

Betas and demos do represent the core gameplay. Doesn't it? You can't honestly say it would do a 360, and somersault... Surely, in the future, there will be tweaks here and there for balancing, technical issues being ironed out, but nothing that would drastically change the gameplay to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. Most changes, tweaks, fixes, are adaptable. Hell, even when things in-game break and piss people off, are adaptable. But the core gameplay is pretty much gonna be what the beta and demos had to offer.

Yes you are right, that they do represent the core gameplay, but how would you experience the addiction of getting the best loot when only a fraction of the loot is available to you? (which is what made the past diablo games great) How would you experience the feeling of messing around with certain skills and builds when you are only able to access a small portion of them? I dont know how to explain it, sure diablo 2's gameplay sounds boring, but just.... the mechanics or i dunno what it is was addicting the more you played it.

Dungeon Siege 3 is fun and underrated, but it's a mess, you're either trolling (you are since you made another thread about hating Diablo) or you think what you did here is funny and cool.

DS3 is a game on rail, everything is linear, even the loots, they just put a few dialogue choices to make you think it was a rpg. D3 is not as dynamic as D2 but it's in a totally different league compared to DS3 on all fronts, the level design, the loots, the story (DS3's story is so lame It's the worst part of it), character customisation, boss fights, multiplayer. I bought DS3 on sale for 15$ and I wish I could get my money back.

As one of the few people that really enjoyed Dungeon Siege 3 (hell, I even have the Desert DLC)... I'm sorry, but it doesn't come close to Diablo III...

That's not entirely true. The environments are mostly linear, but the loot is definitely heavily randomised (besides the unique legendary items), and the dialogue choices actually have consequences throughout the story, changing how things play out.
It's more of an RPG than your typical Action-RPG (of which the Diablo series is the best example).

Anyway, DS3 wasn't terrible. I beat it again on co-op the other day and...well...there may have been some horrendous design decisions (removing camera controls from co-op mode being the prime offender), but it's still playable.

Comparing it to Diablo 3? I wouldn't know, haven't played D3, but I know I didn't think that Diablo 2 was the second coming. I played it for a few weeks, got bored, and dropped it. It was definitely a more polished experience than DS2, but...ehh?
