If anyone cares, you can now get the Dungeon Siege III demo on Steam.

Well I can safely say I did not enjoy that. It certainly is a nice looking game but I found the combat rather unsatisfying even compared to really old action rpg's. I also think having pre-made characters with backround stories probably is not the best thing in an action rpg as most fans of the genre are not interested I would imagine. Though I'm sure some people will love the game and the new features it brings. Not me though.
Thats another one scrapped from my anticipated games list. I'll have to find something to replace it.
Hmmm interesting. Any more opinions? I'm currently at work. I'm going to try it later tonight. Not good imo...
Feels like it has been designed to be played on a controller, it is very dumbed down compared to the original (even though it wasn't a complex game).

What do you expect from Obsidian? They are the worst contract developers around. I wanted to play this game, big time, until I heard they were making it. No thank you!

Not too impressed either and I like Obsidian, especially after New Vegas. But there's still a lot more of the game to see, so...
My thoughts so far are:
- it's very linear at the moment ( I'm at Raven Rill )
- leveling up does seem pretty simplistic ( though I haven't played other DS games )
- voice acting doesn't seem too good
- I can't get the name "Jeyne Kassynder" out of my head.
I just played some with both of the available characters. Screenshot
Graphically, this is not a pretty demo. The environments look alright, but the characters are blurry and lack detail. There are a few options for changing graphics, but I've got it maxed on my pretty old gaming system and it still doesn't look good.
The controls are definetely meant for a gamepad, with all powers mapped to three different buttons in the game, that change depending on your stance. It does seem like there's not very many abilities available. There's also no way to remap the controls in-game.
All that said, I'm still looking forward to playing through it, if for no other reasons than Diablo 3 isn't out yet and I've already preordered it.

I agree. Characters look detailed enough when you talk to them up close, but they're lacking significantly in visuals out of dialogue.
The environments do look pretty nice though.
It was ok from that demo. A lot of armor to find but it all looks the same, hopefully there are some other models in the game proper. It seemed linear too but maybe that was just the demo. The story should be good since it's Obsidian. I'll probably get it when it's on sale.

Told, ya that would happen but most people here were like "what can they possibly dumb down" and obsidian is trully a terrible developer.seems like a solid game, though nothing special. Controls seemed a bit awkward, almost slippery and combat seems a bit slow. I really liked switching to alternative stances during fights and dodging
What did you think about it?It's average.D= Oh ok. :( I just started downloading the demo. Almost done. Can't wait to try it out myself. If it's average, I will definitely be skipping it until it hits the bargain bin.[QUOTE="Elann2008"]

It's about time, already played it on 360, but I want to see how it looks on my PC.

Told, ya that would happen but most people here were like "what can they possibly dumb down" and obsidian is trully a terrible developer.Oh come on. I can understand you not liking their games like Alpha Protocol, but what's wrong with Fallout: New Vegas?
I was looking forward to it because Obsidian is making it, but I'm not sure now. I'll wait to see what reviews are like for it.
Maybe my nostalgia is kicking in, but I liked the original Dungeon Siege. It had a great soundtrack and the graphics were very nice for the time. Nearly 10 years later, and I don't know if I'd like it as much now. Back in the day, however, it was a lot of fun. Dungeon Siege games have never been complex, nor have they had good stories. They were just fun hack/slash rpgs. But...
This game is horrible. I'm not going to waste any more time explaining why. You just have to play the demo and decide for yourself. I won't even bother with this game when it's in the bargin bin.

I'm willing to give Obsidion a chance. New Vegas is better than Fallout 3 in every way and was one of the best games last year.
I love Alpha Protocol. But this...Dungeon Siege is awful. I'm glad they released a demo or else I would have wasted my money. The camera angle is horrible! You feel so restricted. You can only scroll, zoom in or out by two clicks. And you can't turn the camera like Dragon Age Origins. The menus looked confusing and they tried to do too much. Elann2008
I agree. The menu looks a bit unintuitive, and the game could benefit from a wider camera angle or something. You'd think 0bsidion would have learned something from the development of New Vegas.
Still, I got the impression the game would have gotten better right before the demo ended.
Im willing to give them a chance..What was wrong with never winter nights 2..Stil play the game every now and than and i love it..Was a decent game..The expansions where great..Alpha protocol shouldve sold more..Love that game..Only thing pissed me off about ap was the stupid mini games..Couldve been better..Bored me trying to unlock safes an such..Only thing that dissapointed me..Los vegas wasnt bad either..Sunk many game hours into it..Oblivion is one of my fav companies for rpgs..Im willing to give this one a shot..Remember folks demos can be restrictive at times..They hold back stuff like corridors that you cant go into an what not..Also they give you low end part of the game..Perhaps it gets better as the game goes on..
Ive yet to try the demo im downloading now...
Just finished playing the demo..Thought it was pretty good. Not sure what you guys are looking at..Graphically its not bad..Game-play was fun..The guns are different..It was challenging at times..Love the magic sword i found it was glowy nice touch there..Guess im not as picky as some of yall are..Ill enjoy this and glad i pre ordered it..Im sure the full game will unlock more like town people and such..The character screen is not as bad as some of yall say it is..Its easy to use and follow..
The demo disappointed me at first but I was expecting something more akin to Torchlight or Titan Quest. This game is very different, I played it with an xbox 360 controller and the gameplay felt very satisfying, sucks for those with m&k only though. I didn't like the graphics as much as I thought I would, textures are too lo-res and the animation in dialogue scenes is subpar. I may pick it up but need to know if the sp campaign is long enough and if the replay value is there, there are 4 playable characters, is that right?GooeykatYes, there's 4, they showed them when you beat the demo in a trailer.
[QUOTE="Game_On_"]The mouse and keyboard controls in this game remind me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Pn-PvhY_0Elann2008lol
It's funny because it's true. :)
Wow this game is so linear that 90% of the paths are narrower then 2 meters
wkwan
Half the game was blocked..Thats why it seams linear..Besides whathack and slash game wasnt linear..Torchlight was just a randum room yet every one loved it..Ds2 was just a straight path if i remember...Even titan quest was linear..Diablo will be some what linear also..True it will have a out side world to explore..How ever the dungeons will be linear..Wish people would just stop using this fraze..Most games are linear..Id say more than half..
Lot of the demo is blocked out they a lot will be unlocked at full release..It was also the first maybe 15 minutes of the game..Love how people judge it off 15 minutes..Game they said gets larger in the next city you visit..
