Dynasty Warriors 6 joystick and esc button crash

I jus download dynasty warriors 6 today for D2D. I tried to use my joystick (gamepad) for the game b/c i wanted to play with my cousin. I tried to edit the buttons but whenever i'm done and i try to press ESC it crashes the game. If i unplug the controller the game works fine and no crashes. Any ideas or solutions ??? ? ?
