Listed below are my specs:

Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00Ghz

GeForce 9600GT 51MB OC

2GB DDRII 800

I want to upgrade again sometime soon but can't afford to upgrade CPU and graphics at the moment, so what do you guys recken I should upgrade? I was thinking ofreplacing my 9600GT witha GTX260 896MB as well as getting some more RAM.

Also, would the CPU bottleneck the GTX or not? Would I see a big performance increase in new games when getting the GTX?

The cpu is far superior to the graphics card, a gtx 260 (make sure you get the core 216 version) would be a very good upgrade and no bottlenecking would occur. You should also consider overclocking the cpu as it overclocks very well.

That cpu wouldn't bottleneck the 260. You should also consider a 4870 wich is has pretty much the same performances as the 260 but for cheaper

I would upgrade the GPU. I just recently upgraded my 8400 to a 9550 and aside from only a couple games, namely GTA4 and Prototype, I see very little difference in games framerate. Now I do see quite a good jump in my boot-up time as well as the usual increases that come with a quad, namely better multi-tasking performance and such. Definitely the GPU.

Honestly, I wouldn't upgrade at all if you can wait a bit longer. The 9600GT is no slouch and is more than capable of running modern games as long as you do some tweaking. But if you're looking for a nice upgrade a 4890 would fit the bill.

Like everyone else said get a new GPU. The E8400 is still a top of the line CPU. I actually use the E8400, if you can try overclokcing it a little bit, they are great overclockers.

get more ram, and then a new gpu, the cpu is fine for years to come and will last another few years easy if you overclock. there is little point in getting a new gpu/cpu for any new game except crysis and gta4 unless you run a really high resolution.

The E8400 is plenty enough for most people, get a new GPU, I have a E8400 at 4ghz and a 4870 and i can play everything at the highest detail

haha, i have the exact same setup, went from an e8400 to a q9550, although i have two gtx 260's in sli, and i play at 1920 x 1080, so at a resolution that high, many things come into play, and another game to add to that list is obviously, crysis, it really helped my framerate in that game, especially with all of the physics and what-not. oh, but if you're going to get anything, get a gpu, but go EVGA if you're going to get anything, they offer a 90 day step-up and when the gtx 300 series cards come out you'll be ready to go, or just wait.
