Alright i was wondering if i could reach 3.5Ghz on a e8400 with stock cooler. I don't really need to go any higher than that, and if i have to I will switch to aftermarket cooling. Thanks in advance.

I've read somewhere that it can be done, but a stock heatsink is unreliable when it comes to overclocking. I would suggest buying a Freezer Pro 7 or a Tuniq Tower for the serious overclocker. They're not expensive either. Good luck.

you can get 1/2 ghz with stock cooler no problem, its not that bad its just small and doesn't dispate the heat that much. What are the idle and load temps right now?

but investing in a aftermarket cooler would be a good idea, i got a asus vapor bearing cpu heatsink, its amazing, but big, thats to be expected though. Cost me $40 but it is deffintly worth it. i get idle temps of 25C and load @ 33C with it.

I got an Antec 900 case with fans on max. I don't really need to go any higher than 3.5Ghz right now because I'll sync my cpu and my ram (2000x7 and ddr2 at 1000Mhz) and later on I will get a cpu cooler and get it to around 4Ghz.

Try it and overclock bit by bit while checking your temps. You should be okay.
