I would like to know the best program for measuring the temperature of my E8400 at stock speeds, right now I'm using rainmeter and it is reporting that I'm idling at 41C and get up to 51C at load. Is this too hot? Are there better/more accurate programs than rainmeter? Shouldn't it be lower since I'm using a Freezer 7 Pro?

The temps are perfectly fine, but I'd expect maybe couple degrees cooler on a A/M cooler.

I would say that is a bit high at idle speeds, but it also depends on what fan/heatsink you are using too. If it is the stock one, I'm not quite sure, that might be normal. I had a pretty nice aftermarket cooler and I idled at about 33C @ 3.7 ghz.

33C at 3.7 GHz is fantastic! I have mine overclocked to 3.6 GHz and it idles at about 38C and will get up to 47C under load.

Yeah, my ambient was usually kinda low compared to now, but I had a beast of an aftermarket cooler too and some really nice case airflow.

Good info on E8400 temps: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/294212-what-safe-temps-e8400.html

I would also give CoreTemp a try:

Cheers

Your CPU shouldn't be a worry unless it hits 60C Load... even then it is safe.

Just get the latest version of coretemp or realtemp. The most accurate way of knowing your actual temps is to underclock and undervolt your CPU, leave it at idle and check the temps. It should only be a few degrees higher than ambient temperatures. So if ambient temps are 30 and the program is showing 40 at idle, you know something is not right.

I used to be really anal about my Xeon e3110 your problem is probably that the reading isn't coming from the right censors. SHould be able to reduce your temp by 10 degrees which is closer to accurate.

I can't explain it, someone with more knowledge can let ya know what i'm talking about.

Everest will tell you the accurate temp for any component in your system. Go to the stability test, click preferences, and add any component to any graph. But depending on the batch, the second temp monitor will get stuck. It's only the minimum temp though, so it's cool. At 4.5GHz, I idle at 33-36C. But my second core still shows 41C. It won't go any lower...
