This is a sad day for all of us.

Frankly, I would have expected never PopCap to ever sell themselves. Especially to EA, one of Activision's main competitors, considering the friendship between Blizzard and PopCap. I'm officially a sad panda.

Indeed, it's still surprising they sold out at all.

I wonder if EA plans to pull PopCap games from Steam too, now.

With the money that was thrown at them, with possibly $550 million more, it would have been stupid of them to say no

I would just hope EA would just drop it's EA Orgin store. Even EA knows, it simply just can't compete with Steam, D2D and GG. And doesn't EA only let you download the game for one year and after that your screwed?

They have to start somewhere if they want a slice of Steam's pie. It's been too much dominant for too much time.

And yep, only reason I'm not going to ever buy from Origins, no matter what game they put exclusively up there. They may screw somebody for the first year they sign up, then when the first "downloadable period"s end EA will see Origins diving vertically.

Good news finally, this way we get complete games, faster. PvZ needs a sequel, PvZ PC needs the already released CO-OP, etc. But meh, I'll join...OMG end of world of today, EA is killing another great developer that only has two games (game and one series) worth mentioning, they are evil, they will do bad stuff, they might release more and more games that people want and maybe release all their features on PC also.

While I don't think the one year download limit is true anymore, EA's policies are really shady. EA has retired 10 games from their catalogue already, meaning the people who bought the games can no longer access them. Also there have been situations where EA has lost people's accounts and games. They also have a policy that states if you don't login within 2 years then your account becomes disabled and you will not be able to access your account any more.

They have to start somewhere if they want a slice of Steam's pie. It's been too much dominant for too much time.

Nothing wrong with the best digital distributor being dominant in the market.

I think they will be fine, pop cap is still pop cap, just ea is now the publisher.

But you would be stupid to turn down 750 million with another 550 million that could come your way

Seems like an awful lot of money. PopCaps yearly revenue is $100 million so it might take 10+ years to even make any money off the deal.

good for popcap! I had no idea they were worth so much. This is pretty awesome, how such a basic idea, executed flawlessly, can yield such an amazing product and company.

And where are you getting that idea from? I purchased ME1 back in 2008, and I was able to download and install it just a couple of days ago onto a new PC.:o

People actually play those games?? I played bejewled once on my cell phone while at the airport but never even considered it to be a real video game. Its more of a time pass when not atound your comp or console.

More people play bejewled than most video game franchises could ever dream of.

people are overexagerating. EA is a good publisher, and it seems the people who dread Origins are people who have never purchases a single product through it. Its a good service, a lot better than the other DD platforms aside from steam and GoG. Granted I do want some things to change. However this is good news for pop cap, hopefully we'll see more games from them now.

I also can't understand all this hostility against EA. Sure, we don't want too strong players that spoil the market, but let's just face it that STEAM, as good as it is, might be already too powerful. EA is just trying to adapt to the changing gaming market, that's all.

You've got to be joking - Bejeweled 2 Deluxe was the world's #1 most-addictive puzzle game. It combines features not seen in a lot of casual games, such as hardware acceleration, and Bejeweled 3 added detection of high-end GPUs and Ultra Mode for screen resolution.

Now Activision has to buy Zynga and the war for dominance of Facebook can kick off... this is a shame though because now PvZ and Bejeweled are likely to cost more and have a tonne of DLC :x.

I'm curious to see how much Popcap is really going to change. They're business method of creating lots of fun little games works best if they remain just that: Fun little games. So the addition of DLC or a higher price would upset that balance.

Are you kidding me? The Bejeweled series is in the list of best selling video game franchises ever.

And yes, people play them, they are quality puzzle games. Bejeweled 3 in particular has excellent visuals and a ton of content. To put things under perspective, Bejewled is quite above Tomb Raider, Halo, Guitar Hero and a couple of other dozens of franchises, in terms of sales. [source]

They may be casual puzzle games, but that does not mean that they aren't quality games.

I agree with Lucianu. Bejeweled is a great game, I've got 2 Deluxe and 3. I play them to take a break from uber-games, so they don't become stale.
