Apparently BF3 will not include modding tools.
Does this affect your purchase of the game? I know this will upset a lot of people, even though its not something I use myself.

Don't care.
Regarding the lack of mod tools in general, Creative Assembly gave a good reason:
"We have tools that work with our internal data processes, but wouldn't work at all as mod tools. It would take a huge amount of development resources to combine them into something approaching usable.
"Many of our tools are just designed to work with our raw data formats and process them into something used by the game, not to take a processed item and view or edit it.
"Nor do we have tools to do most of the things you really want – such as model importing – as we have no need of them; we have the raw models, and can always export them and reprocess them.
"Creating a set of tools specifically for modding is never going to be the quick or simple procedure many of you would hope for," he continued, "and between making games, creating new content and supporting each release with balances and fixes, our production schedules are fierce."
The whole complex thing is a load of crap. There are modders that can do it. I would guess90 percent of the people who make the best mods, are more than capable of using it. I'm sure the project reality guys can work with fb2
Yup. So this means, no cool maps aside from the given ones? Oh wellz... :( Sad panda. The whole complex thing is a load of crap. There are modders that can do it. This is what is really sad, gaming is actually going backwards because the new generation kids willing to fork out money so quick. Not buying the game. You guys should save up for ARMA III instead, the scope of that game dwarfs BFIII.ah typical complete bull excuse just like wat creative assembly did with napo total war. i doubt its too complex for modders . ah well people will just eat up the dlc

It's not going to be better than Battlefield 3. It's a military sim, not an arcady team-based shooter.

Exactly, it's really a poor excuse. Oh well..Dice are not really the bro developer I thought them to be, but I guess it's understandable when EA owns them now.The whole complex thing is a load of crap. There are modders that can do it. Yep, good thing...oh wait BC 2....oh wait @_@ BC 2 Vietnam. The best maps the BF universe had were made by modders and they're releasing them again with a few changes of their own (and it's not like they redesign it in a glorious way, just a few eye candy props and some changes to buildings) to confuse those that would start wars on the internet for not releasing mod tools (custom maps) "we gave you the best maps ever created, now buy our DLC that'll most likely include one or two remakes from the modding community on every pack we release and be happy".I would like to see an editor for the game, but doesn't worries me the absence. I didn't play any mod for BF 2 and never bought any BF 2 map outside the Special Forces expansion, and certainly I wouldn't play any mod for Battlefield 3 even if where the case. I'll focus with this game in Conquest and TDM mode in BIG maps as Oman Gulf, Wake Island, Karkand ans Sharqui; I have 0% interes in Rush -outside getting some medals and achievements-, in mods or extra maps (BC 2: Vietnam hadturriblemaps, outside Cao Long Temple was a waste of money).
So no, I don't care too much about editor and mods in THIS game.
Why would they release mod tools for it?? the engine is far too valuable to let into the hands of the public
don't care, i rarely download Mods anyway.yemen_headshot
Then you're missing out on one of the best aspects of PC gaming.
Guys, another game without modding tools: GTA IV.
I'm pretty sure you guys have already seen some fo the kick butt mods out there for that game.
This means we won't see mods right away, and it might limit some fo the things mods cna pull off - but there will still be mods.
Also, this doesn't barr the possibility fo rmod tools at some later point in time. Probably after the hype for the game dies down a bit. PC online communities for this game will exist for a LONG time. And mods WILL be a part of that one way or another.
Wasn't this somehting that happenned with MW too? First, no mod tools, then later they released some?
[QUOTE="Hekynn"]Nope still buying me a copy of BF3. But sooner or later EA will have to give in and launch a Mod tool kit.MadCat46No they won't, just ask Dragon Age fans who have been waiting for months. And at least they've been fed a "maybe" rather then a flat out no. Even maybe doesn't matter, they gave a "maybe, but it's really not worth it" for BC 2, nothing since and the community didn't manage to do anything since you don't even have "real" dedicated servers and I doubt EA would authorize custom maps on their servers.
The reason GTA4 modding is doing so well is because its generally a single player experience. On the other hand there is no point modding BF3 without official tools because the server files are private like BFBC2, meaning any custom made content could not be hosted for multiplayer purposes anyway so its a waste of time.Guys, another game without modding tools: GTA IV.

I don't buy the "complexity" argument.
There are more than enough skilled and enterprising individuals willing to learn and work with complex mod tools.
But, given that I haven't played a single multiplayer mod for BF2 besides Project Reality, the issue with multiplayer mods may lie not in lack of modding talent, but rather, a lack of time and interest on part of the players to download and try something they may or may not like.
I used to have a lot of time to download mods and even research them before playing them. But, as I have grown, I have mostly stuck to the core game unless a game is really better with mods (i.e., Oblivion, Stalker, Total War series, etc.)

How do you expect EA to sell downloadable content when there are awesome free maps out there?
Baranga
Same way they did it for Battlefield 2, I guess. And 1942 before it.
The thing is, there weren't tons of custom maps made for BF2. There was really only one big mod for BF2.
Other than Desert Combat and Project Reality, there hasn't been a terribly large modding community for Battlefield. So I guess it's not that big of a loss when you think about it.

You are wrong there. There were many mods for BF2, if I recall, but most of them have since died. Operation Peacekeeper and Point of Existence 2 comes to mind.
I'm pretty sure Desert Combat WAS a big deal, and PR is almost at that level too. The thing I don't like about this guy is that he basically stated that "modders" are too dumb to work with their engine, which is far from the truth, if he actually played some of the quality mods out there. There are thousands of people with talent that are probably far beyond even some of the devs at DICE, so I really don't see his point here.
Also, with BF3 there would a community that is tenfold the ones before. I wouldn't be suprised to find someone able to work with the engine and push it to the limit.
tl;dr It's not that mod tools are essential to this game, hell I wouldn't care too much if they just said no. it's the attitude that EA have towards modders that I don't like, as shown in this guy's statements.

Is there a point you're trying to make? And of course you'd be more than happy.

You're happy, they're happy, they're making money, everybody's happy.
