I use to use this card in my computer. I think it burnt out - I think. I can't remember if that's why I took it out, but it did run very hot. I replaced it with a GTS 250 (my current) which was suppose to be a bit better.

I cannot run Crysis on Ultra with a GTS 250. I haven't played Crysis in like 6 months, but I think I played Medium/High at native 1680x1050.

Are people bsing on this card or was it that good? I am reading an old review from newegg.

I just found this card in a box in my storage locker.

The GTS 250 performs similarly to a 9800 GTX+

Okay, but is a 9800GT Ultimate better than a GTS 250?

As far as I know... no it isn't better. Neither card can max Crysis anyway.

I wonder why people were saying that on a newegg review in 2008.

Expectations I higher now than then, to them in 2008 the fact that it would run sorta playable at those settings were accepted by people who really wanted high graphics in Crysis. But realistically now neither of these cards can max Crysis and run the game smooth, not a chance in hell.

They most likely were running at lower resolutions.

Or think 15 fps is acceptable.

Back in the day "maxing out Crysis" meant you could get the game to run at max settings at a framerate that wasn't literally a slideshow and using a resolution well below your monitor's native (eg: 1280x800). Obviously that definition has changed now. It's also worth noting that most people don't actually use software like FRAPS or Afterburner to objectively measure their in-game performance, and rather just call anything that looks acceptable to them "60 FPS".

good to know, I knew the GTS 250 was slightly better. I don't know if this card still works, I don't have a computer to test it with. Guess I will just hold on to it for now.

GTS 250 cannot max crysis under any reasonable resolution. But you can play high settings very smoothly at 16x10.

The 250 should be noticeably better, but not majorly, oh, maybe 5-10%. One of those reviews was about an SLI setup, at least one of the others was lying, and the rest display that phenomenon where people tend to overrate what they bought to make themselves feel better about having spent all that money. Sorry, but Crysis poops on either of your cards. Medium at 1680 with stuff turned off, maybe. We are talking about Crysis, not the consolized, fake POS they called Crysis2, right?

GTS 250 at 1680x1050

single card, run mix of medium/high, no AA/AF at playable framerates

dual GTS 250s in SLI - run on high settings, no AA/AF at playable framerates - might squeeze out low setting of AA/AF with a bit of a hit in performance and still find the game mostly playable.

There is no way to max out Crysis on your card at a higher-end resolution. However the GTS 250 is a bit better over the 9800GT - roughly 5-10% as stated in an earlier post.

GTS 250 easily runs crysis at a mix of high/very high DX9 with 16xAF no AA at 16x10.

I think I had half the settings at high and half at very high, just make sure the likes of shaders and object detail are not at very high. AA is obviously a complete no go but AF hardly affects performance on any 8800 or better card.

The 9800gt ultimate is not a normal 9800gt. It has 128 stream processors instead of 112. And it's core clock is 725mhz instead of 600mhz.

You should try Crysis with some mods. They can make the game look and run better. I recorded Crysis running on one of my older PC builds with a GTX 275 and this is how it looks. Watch the video in "original" mode when selecting a resolution for the best quality. Keep in mind that FRAPS lower fps by a little. When playing without FRAPS it ran in the mid 30s most of the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLkg97aDr9k

That looks real nice, I'm gonna give it a go.

I just tried it; it wasn't that great.

9800 GTX+ and GTS 250 are the same thing. In fact, they even work together in SLI.

The mod that was used in the Crysis video. It looked good but I didn't really like it.
