So, I went to buy CS:S + Garrys MOD for 25$.

They kept telling me my purchase was declined because of an incorect billing address?

So I didn't get the game, and I kept trying the transaction again.

They said, "If you think this was an error, please try again."

Now, I tried up to 10 times entering different addresses.

Declined 10 times up, I finally gave up.

Only to find all of them went through apparently.

Still no game...

Now I've been charged over 300$.

Anyone ever had a problem like this with Steam?

And now because of this issue, i'm not allowed to buy off Steam again. Ugh.

So, yeah... Anyone ever have problems with Steam? Or am I just very unlucky.

Personally no issues so far.

Though your problem does sound a little weird.

This ws one of the messages they said - "Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company due to an incorrect address being entered. Note that in some cases, your credit card company may put a 'hold' on funds in your account, but you will not be charged. After reviewing the information below, if you believe your card has been declined in error please try your purchase again."

Well personally I did not have any billing related problems through Steam. Generally speaking, I've only had minor issues with Steam, usually not worth mentioning. Don't worry tho, Valve is very sensitive about billing and I'm sure they will solve the problem in no time if you contact them soon enough.

I asked my parents to help with why the credit card was declined. If they were here they would've kept trying to because it was an error. Except they were actually charging me every single time and not giving me my product.

I didn't do anything wrong... I already bought a game with the exact same info, this time I go to buy and it says it was declined and to try again if you think it's an error. (Which it was.) So I tried again and again, really wanting to play CS:S. Only to find out I was still charged but no game, please tell me what I did wrong.

I've had lots of problems. When i first got it in 2005/2006, the server list didn't work and i had to connect to every server through the IP address (I still remember the one i played on a lot 67.106.77.96). The friends list didn't really work either. Then i downloaded HL2 episode 1 and had a weird problem that made the game unplayable. It would load, but rather than show the menu screen it would show my desktop screen. Then i would move the mouse around and hear the little "werps" when the mouse would glide over the options on the menu screen. In other words, it loaded the game but only displayed a frozen desktop screen.

But that has all been fixed now. It works quite well and it is really easy to buy off of.

Just about everyone that uses steam has had problems or troubles, but same could be said for xboxlive, windows live, hell just about all slim ps3's were bricked for a weekend.

Xbox360 (no need to list its problems)

windows xp, vista, and windows 7 (ALL HAVE THEIR PROBLEMS) Steam is no different.

Lol, every system, service, concept, faith, government, school, ... whatever it may be, they all have their problems, and sooner or later they all mess up from time to time. (some I've listed have been messing up for thousands of years)

Most of the Steam problems I have had lately is no connection/cannot connect/or disconnect. as well as the Steam Cloud business gives me trouble from time to time. (and my connection to the internet is not the problem. lol) Though ALL ISPs have their problems.

Never had a single problem, I buy almost all of my games (espcially MP games) off of Steam. Contact Valve about this, if it was them that cost you $300 they will give the money back. I honestly don't see how it is possible that if you continously tried different addresses for the billing thing that they all went through. Steam can't charge you for anything without the proper information, that is not in Steams reach. Either way, contact Valve, get your money back and so on. I personally love Steam but some people hate it aswell, I understand both sides.

The thing is that it was correct... Everything was fine, but for some reason it said I was declined (I wasn't) and to try again if I think it was an error.... Which it was so I kept trying...But still even though I was charged... I didn't get my game, and I emailed Steam. Don't you contact Valve/Steam at the same place?

Yes, they are run by the same people. They will clear this problem up almost surely (they have great customer support). I would suggest re installing Steam. CS:S is a lot of fun especially since there will be a new update for it coming out soon (hopefully this month).

Had a bug which caused my games through Steam to crash at startup, on loads of different type of hardware. The customer service was one of the worst I have seen.

This. Besides slow download times and such during sales, I've never had any problems since I first used it for the Orange Box.

Been using it since Half-Life 2 came out, very near the beginning.

Aside from minor software bugs and the occasional connection problem, I've never had any problems. Certainly not like any of the horror stories I hear about, which are (in most cases) the user's fault and not Valve's.

Just a tip if you do buy from Steam again... you might want to pay via PayPal instead to avoid it happening again.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem and I'm afraid they are going to charge me as well since I won't know until monday or tuesday.

Did steam ever get back to you? Did you get your game or your money back?

I'll also pm you if you aren't checking this forum anymore.

Thanks,

spiral
