Anyone interested in buying the 8800gt SC edition? I think the 720 clock is pretty cool with the new cooler slapped on the 8800gt. I would of bought it if it was on stock at NCIX, but unfortunately not yet. Anyone think that I should wait for the akimbo or go for an xfx 8800gt?

I still don't quite understand. I've seen the photos, but I still don't really get what it is that the Akimbo does over the reference cooler design.

suppose to maybe make it cooler? The cooler was probaly taken off from the gtx or gts model and just added on the 8800gt for a better dual slot cool. I think its great evga is doing this, but if only it was a little earlier.

It's been posted on evga forums by the mods/admins that you can use the akimbo cooler to overclock and get speeds equal to an 8800GTS G92 (stock G92) speeds. However, you should be able to do this without the akimbo. I set my stock fan speed to 80% and it idles at 43C and gets upto 58C during Crysis using the 8800gt akimbo card speeds.

personaly i wouldnt use ncix, go with newegg much better prices, and if your thinking about the speed benefits with the akimbo, look into the new gts 512mb from evga, and the gt series only has 112 stream processes and the gts has the full 128 stream processes, so no matter how much overclocked it, the 112 stream processes are going to hold it back more than the gts, and the gts has been safely overclocked to 810 mhz core clock so it gets pretty fast

Get the normal 8800GT and overclock it yourself. It's rather simple to do and doesn't run much risk of failure (you can return card if you do).

I live in vancouver so Newegg isnt really an option to me because of location plus shipping process. I prefer to use NCIX because of their location plus service and unfortunately, the evta 8800gts 512mb at ncix costs nearly 400 without including the rebate (the akimbo was around for 289.99, so it shouldnt be over 300 in canadian price). I alredy have crysis, so maybe i could probaly sell it for 30 bucks or so. I was wondering if there would be any speical sale from ncix on the 8800's series that includes the 8800gts 512mb (was hoping for one big sale). Thanks for the help guys.

YES! Finally the evga 8800gt akimbo has come to ncix. Well now I have two cards to chose from, the evga 8800gt akimbo, or the 8800gts 512mb. The difference is about 100 dollars excluding the rebates. I wonder if its worth it to spend an extra 100 dollars or just get the budget card? Oh and also are both cards compatible with a gigaybte 965p ds-3? (I alredy have crysis)

What ever floats your boat.

Also I have notice in the past that most of the time cheaper isn't always better espicaly when it comes down to graphic cards pcs that sort of stuff. So it I was you I would spend that extra 100 but if you need to save some money have some left over thent go for the cheaper one.
