id stick to windows xp for now.you can still use any dx10 video card with it but no dx10 games which arent out yet.if you need the newest os to go with your new cpu,dx10 gpu then get vista.its still kind of buggy though isnt it?ive only tried vista rc1 and it was ok.whether I buy vista depends on if the games coming out this year.

[QUOTE="BounceDK"][QUOTE="nooblet69"]If I were to stay with windows xp is DX10 compatible with it ? Only reason I wannas tay with XP is because most people say that vista will be crap with games for another 1-2 years at least.Zeke129

dx10 is overrated. The performance is much lower compared to dx9 and the graphics are the same.

Stop lying. Stop flaming. Stop ranting.

1 - Vista does not ruin old games. I've played Half-Life 1 (not Source!) perfectly fine. I've played Far Cry fine. Hell, I've played AGE OF EMPIRES 2 fine.

2 - So you broke a CD. Horray! You're a rebel now! And you just wasted a buttload of money. Nice job, pal.

3 - DX10 isn't overrated. Case and point, DX9 - DX10 Crysis Comparison. Watch the videos, don't just go by the text. The differences are huge.

4 -  Calling us "special" just because YOU got your facts out of the toilet doesn't prove anything, other than the fact you're a troll.

Those comparisons are terrible.   First for the jungle video, the graphical difference is so minimal thst most gamers wouldn't beable to tell the difference once they start playing.   They also used a grenade in the DX10 video but how come not in the DX9 video?.   As for the Hunter video, that was just bloody awful.   You can clearly see that they turned down the settings for the DX9 video but put it on high for the DX10 video.   The 2 videos (Jungle and Hunter) are so graphically inconsistent that it just doesn't make any sense at all.

Now, as for this guys question.   You should get your new PC at the end of the year along with Vista.   I know, it's a long wait but at the moment, it's really hard to say with the new hardware and the new OS.

Just buy Vista. You'll have to eventually, so you might as well get it over with now and save some money. I've been using Vista for a few months now and I would never go back to XP.

[QUOTE="BounceDK"]Keep telling yourself that, it may come true if you do.BounceDK

Where's the evidence to prove YOUR point? I supplied you rock-solid evidence and you clearly ignored it.

Oh, wait! There is no evidence!

Enjoy some benchmarks. And let's not forget the crappy sound you get in older titles too. And that Crysis video shows nothing special. I can't see the difference. Why they chose to leave out the motion blur effect when zooming in DX9 i beyond me. It's there for them to use so why not use it? And in the DX9 footage, he shoots down a dead tree with no leaves on it but happily shoots & throw grenades in the DX10 . It's yet another publicity stunt and a poor one I might add. But you people are falling for it, so I guess it's working as intended.

Lost Planet is a DEMO, and the first title to really use DX10. You're using that as your proof? Wow.

Plus, you clearly didn't watch the videos. The foliage is denser in DX10, the smoke effects are better, the tree physics are better, and there's more on-screen.

There's no smoke effects in the dx9 portion of the video because there's no grenades. Nice try though.

you can't use Lost Planet Demo to compare DX9 and DX10 :D

Lost Planet was not originally made for DX10, the DX10 support was made afterwards. so therefor there are no graphical stuff you couldn't get with DX9. and it is only a demo. we'll see the true difference when Crysis (for example) comes out.

edit: and by the way, that Crysis footage is from E3 2006. not so fresh stuff...

I don't know guys. I've been using Vista for a week or 2 now, bought it with my new dualcore pc. But for some reasons I can't get LOTR:Battle for middle earth 2 to work, it just gives me the error message right after the startup screen which says that it stopt working and that when a sollution is found i will be notified (which i think is a stupid error message cause i can't do nothing with it, give me a proper error message dammit so i can take action!!). I even downloaded the demo from gamespot and it gave me exactly the same error. Don't know if it has something to do with the Vista OS but it used to run fine on my XP machine. Something is definitely in conflict with the game. I have my drivers up to date though so i'm lost at what to do. Also Medieval Total war 2 will freeze when I press the TURN button. I'm thinking about reinstalling XP and make my machine a dual-boot. Unless anyone can help me with the solutions, i will be eternally gratefull of course.

cheers,

btw, games are original games, no copies or whatever.

dualboot is propably the best solution right now. i was planning to do so rigt after i have upgraded my rig. you can't lose with having both XP and Vista on your system, and you are able to do some comparing while trying the games on both OSs. and eventually, you'll need Vista anyway to play future games. just let it evolve a littlebit.

From what I've seen and heard some older games can run a bit slower on Vista, but it's only a couple of fps and at least I wouldn't want to play the new DX10 games with DX9 because they look much better on DX10.

Man o man what a battle :P I must say this is a great forum to read! I must agree with Zeke129. You really see the deferens with a new pc with dx10.DX9 - DX10 Crysis ComparisonI watch the movies botch and you can see it.

I explain

particles

Its the little things in a game to make it realistic, the particles is what direct x10 really goes for! And you can see it in the videos. Smoke is one thing that's really a boost in direct x10. In dx9 smoke was a gif that just look at you in the game so that it looks like a 3d smoke, but it just was flat picture looking at you!

In direct x10 smoke is real life 3d! Little particles are moving in any direction you want it to go to. Look at hunter video in the DX9 - DX10 Crysis Comparison link first, what you see in the dx9 version smoke is only going up in 1 direction when the monster is screaming, it doesn't move! Why? Its just a gif doing his job showing you smoke going up, you cant control it or you need to make a another gif blowing the other way! If you see the dx10 version you see that the smoke is moving freely! If the monster is screaming, take a good look at the smoke! It's going the way where the wind blows! The particles are moving free.

Another thing you see in dx10 is the advance bump mapping

Look at the rocks below see that in dx9 the rocks have a flat look, the shadows are casting nothing only the shadows of the objects. In the dx10 version the rocks have a 3d texture, it has little hols or peaces of rock sticking out so the light can create shadows for a nicer 3d effect.

Here you see the water is improved for amore realistic effect. the bump mapping creates a nicer moving look.

(a picture of flight sim )

Here you see the bump mapping on a face. It creates little bumps on the head for light, so that the face gets a 3d look

There is a lot more that have changed to make it more realistic

like if you watch the jungle video you see that the leaves have sun going threw them.

there is far more junk in the game like cans on the floor or field of moving grass or if you break a glass little peaces will fall on the floor.

there is advanse motion bluring to.

And much more I don't know a bout.

I hope you see what I mean I try to correct my English as best possible. If in my description I sade something thats not true pleas tell me.

And for the final answer! New system? get VISTA! I know its not as stable but I don't think you can buy the xp anymore! And you must go with the flow!

Greets -> aleco!

[QUOTE="BounceDK"]Old games (1 year from this date) runs like crap on Vista. The new eye candy & useless functions they copied from OS10 isn't worth it. Go with XP and be a happy gamer.Deihmos

I can tell you never used Visa before. It makes sense to invest in new tech like a DX10 card to use with a 7 year old OS. What game runs crappy because i have played Far Cry, Half Life, WOW, BF2 and 2142 etc and they all play fine.

the only reason your supporting vista is cuase you spent $400 on Ultimate and you don't want to feel like crap about it.

Vista sucks for gaming. nothing new here.

I'm starting to believe it's quite the opposite, those that don't have Vista don't want to feel like crap that they didn't buy it, and are bashing it.

Obviously, some people have had problems with Vista, but problems are waaaaay overblown.Vista Ultimate x64 has worked GREAT for me!! Couldn't ask for a better experience with both old and new games alike.

Yeah, MS is getting their money. Including shipping, I paid $184 (OEM) for Vista, which is still alot IMO, but I built a new system from ground up and MS was going to get their money from me on an OS one way or the other.

At least, what you can do all before stating if Windows Vista is crap or is a joy of OS, you should put the PC that you used with it.

Nowadays, I'm using now Windows Vista Business x32 with the next rig, and games go fine, without any problem:

Motherboard P5LD2 Deluxe

Pentium D Dual Core 3.00 Ghz

2 Gb RAM 667 Mhz

XFX nVidia 7600GT 256 Mb XXX Edition (Overclocked)

1 x HD 200 Gb SATA

1 x HD 120 Gb IDE

And even I've tested both Lost Planet, with the same rig (I have also Windows XP installed in another partition), and both works at the same fps rate. Even, I would like to know how many of you own a real Vista copy.

But well, that's none of my concern.

EDIT: Also, something I forgot to say before, I didn't give any buck for my Vista copy, because as being an Engeneering Informatic studiant, I have access to Windows Vista Business for free.
