I have been playing Fallout 3 GotY Ed. on Steam for about the last 4 days and it has been working perfectly fine. Lastnight I decided to install GFWL (Games for Windows Live) and since then Fallout will save the save game files I try to create in the "C:/Documents/My Games/Fallout3/Saves" folder but they won't show up on the saved games or "Load" tab in Fallout 3 anymore. This just started happening since I installed GFWL lastnight and it's getting very frustrating. I tried uninstalling GFWL today and after that Fallout 3 wouldn't even start any longer. So I tried uninstalling Fallout 3 and reinstalling it but still it wouldn't start. I then reinstalled GFWL and it started up immediately the first time, yet my games although they still save into the Saves folder will still not show up in game and it makes it pretty much pointless to even play the game anymore if I can't save my progress. Has anyone else had this issue or possibly know a fix for it?

Make sure you have latest GFWL version, make sure to create account on GFWL and enter your cd-key so you'll have achievements and able to save the game

EDIT: and btw once you've combined/installed GFWL the only way to continue the game and save is by logging to it.

How can you play FO3 without GFWL? :? This just doesnt add up unless you are talking about using an offline profile prior going online.

GFWL manages all of Fallout 3's save files, so you have to be logged in in order to use them.

I'm pretty sure that most of your save files are supposed to be online, too. How were you able to save before you logged into GFWL?

GFWL does not manage all Fallout 3 saves (this is a myth I keep seeing pop up in threads). If GFWL is enabled (and logged in) then it will ride on top of Fallout 3's save system and redirect it to look in My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3/Saves/[GFWL Profile Name]. Save games are not stored online. GFWL is not needed in order to play Fallout 3 or save games. (I play with it disabled to use more advanced mods). Since the OP is now running Fallout 3 w/ GFWL installed and (apparently) logging in, the save games need to be copied from the default save location to the location that GFWL expects them to be [in other words, they have to be copied from My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3/Saves to My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3/Saves/[GFWL Profile Name]]

True, GFWL does not store saves online.
