[QUOTE="fireandcloud"][QUOTE="Dopemonk736"][QUOTE="fireandcloud"]no one else feels that these screenshots don't feel quite fallout-ish?artur79
really, well considering that all of the fallout games so far have been isometric, OF COURSE THEY DON'T LOOK FALLOUT-ISH
no, i was referring to the comic book stylings of fallout. these lifelike graphics don't convey any of the cheekiness that the original games did through their art style. even the characters looked cartoonish and the monsters were way over the top. and certainly the blood and gore were so outlandish that you couldn't take them too seriously. know what i mean?
Fireandcloud, I recently watched the opening sequence in Fallout and I have to say that when it comes to the surroundings and the postapocalyptic atmosphere in towns, I think those screenies capture the feeling of the old videos perfectly. I agree on the enemies though. They are a little too "realistic", but it's a necessary evil imo, you can't have realistic environments and then have a lot of cartoony characters running around.
I think most 2D games look cartoonish no matter what style they're going for, if Interplay had the technology that's available to us today (which would rule), who knows, maybe they'd go for a more realistic, gritty look...
i agree that 2d games look inherently cartoonish to a point, but it seemed that interplay was going for that look specifically. i mean, the iconic pip boy is a cartoon figure. i don't think interplay meant to take the game, its settings, etc. too seriously (plus, too many pop culture references in fallout 2 for me to believe they were going for dark and grim but it came out cartoonish looking because of the limitations of 2d graphics). but i'll reserve judgment until i actually play the game and get a feel for it.
