Anyone see this popping up anywhere else? I trust Shacknews quite a bit. Link This is pretty awesome if true.

I hate Bethesda, Oblivion too, but their Fallout was awesome, I enjoyed it a lot, but now with Obsidia, it could become an even greater game with their storytelling :)
Please let it be a little more hardcore! Please!
(But it won't - look at the PC market we have today - it just won't be hardcore however much we want it to be! :( )
Will this be a stand alone game or an expansion?Jd1680aNew game, it has nothing to do with Fallout 3.
This is now on the GS front page.Mr_VersipellisProbably because here the staff doesn't make the articles, when it comes to the PC at least, the community does :P.
Hopefully we'll finally be getting a true and honest RPG sequel to Fallout 1 & 2 rather than some poorly written and watered down shooter. Buggy or not Obsidian has always had much better role-playing and writing in their games than Bethesda has ever had.
I have faith in Obsidian's works. I like what they do as a company. I'm going to pick this up on day one.
SOunds good! Fallout3 was alot better then i expected, but it still wasnt nearly as good as Fallout1/2 imo. So With Obsidian at the helm of this new one, it could be an improvement over Fallout3 and could be a amsterpeice like Fallout1/2.
Should be interesting!
Obsidian always has great storys and what not.

What kind of combat system do you prefer for an RPG to have?
Guess who's winning.

As much as I'd love (l-o-v-e) for that it's never going to happen in this day and age of ADHD gamers. It'd be amazing though.

*rub eyes* that result can't be real o.O But I'm still pessimistic because I can't see the Embryo engine being used for Isometric TB combat, and I can't see Obsidian developing the game from scratch since the game is coming out in 2010. Or maybe they're using whatever engine they used for NWN2?
Well, I voted :P but for the love of God, how, why did they include something like "Text prompt commands " :| it's a good thing that it's far from winning.Check out Obsidian's poll on their main page:

Nevermind, they're using FO3's engine, so it will be the same combat system. Erlkoenig
The use of an engine doesn't dictate the combat system. You can mod Unreal 2004 into an isometric squad based shooter lol. I am sure if they wanted to they could use the gamebryo engine to make a turn based isometric shooter...if they will or not is one thing...but it is possible.
Good to hear that some of the black isle guys are working on this. Considering how much fun Fallout 3 was for me, I think this will be a great addition (vegas is fun as it is...so it must be better with mutants and raiders XD).
This odd to say the least, the developers of the Fallout and Fallout 2 (Black Isle/Obsidian) being tapped to make an expansion for Fallout 3, developed by Bethesda, which can be best be described as the anti-Obsidian (some positives and negatives regarding this). Should be interesting.Gooeykat
Oh the irony!

Gamebryo isn't Bethesda's technology, it's a middleware engine made by some random company. It's used in many games, including all of Sid Meier's modern games, Warhammer Online, Empire Earth etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if they experiment with it. Doesn't sound like a big-ass title of Fallout 3 magnitude, since they signed the contract a few weeks ago.
According to the twitter linked in that thread, Van Buren's main designer is working on this game. He made some obvious Fallout references since they signed:lol: And I want to believe that hex and interface update talks about hexagons:)
I'll probably add this to my "to play" list, because even though Fallout 3 was a huge borefest, I've heard that Obsidian has a vastly different gameplay philosophy than Beth.

Yes, they are quite different. One company makes actual role-playing games and the other doesn't. Obsidian also has some of the guys who worked on Fallout 1 & 2 so that's encouraging but they don't have Tim Cain and, if anybody should be making another Fallout game, it's that guy.
The quick turn-around from the announcement to the release date and the multi-platforming still concerns me but hopefully it'll work out ok. Heck, I doubt it could be any more disappointing than Bethesda's game.
No way. I would like Gamebryo engine as long as it has better character animations than FO3 and also better colour palettes. At least it should have cool neon lights!Maybe it'll have same engine as KOTOR 2?
Steameffekt
This is some of the best gaming news I've heard in a long time.
Not long after Black Isle was shut down it was revealed that they were working on their own Fallout 3. Since a lot of them moved to Obsidian maybe Fallout: New Vegas will be based on the plan for the Fallout 3 Black Isle was making.
With Aliens RPG being canceled as well as their mediocre track record of sequels, I'm not going to hold my breath. They may have some of the original Fallout developers working on FO: NV, but I doubt it'll be as good or better than FO3.

Have you played Neverwinter Nights 2? Or are you just basing this off of KOTOR2? KOTOR 2 isnt the only game they have made.

Under the name Obsidian Entertainment, NWN2 and KOTOR2 are the only games they've fully developed and have published. Neither one were better than the original or, for that matter, really that great, which is why I say they're mediocre. They've followed in BioWare's footsteps twice and neither one surpassed the original.Yes, I play and own both games as well as BioWare's games.

I'd argue that both were much better than Bioware's originals (KOTOR 2 is debatable - everything is better except for the butchered endings), but it really doesn't matter - both Bioware and Obsidian are easily better than Bethesda, who've lately just churned out Oblivion (terrible) and Fallout 3 (bland).
Oh, and personally, I think that Obsidian's NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer was a better RPG than anything Bioware has released since BG2, so they've certainly got the potential for great games.

Nwn 2 official campaigns beat the hell out of the campaigns produced by bioware in my opinion. It's just an opinion but you really need to go look up the word mediocre in the dictionary... Because either you are exaggerating or have no clue has to what mediocre mean.

The NWN2 main campaign is easy superior to the original, as far as KOTOR2 goes, I never played it all the way through but many diehard KOTOR fans find it to be superior as well. Also, get it right, Bioware followed in their footsteps and they assisted or oversaw many of Bioware's early games. Please Log In to post.
