Its fun for awhile but then it starts to get boring, it reminded me of Assassin's Creed in the sense that the world is detailed and beautiful graphically speaking but you don't get to do a whole lot with it. Its like A to B, go here get a mission... now go here complete mission etc.. and then it just starts again. Didn't feel like there was much variety to the missions in the end and the multiplayer while fun for awhile it isnt a patch on some of the other options available. But that's just my opinion.
Well, I understand how others think it is repeated, and it is. At least the missions are a little different, you go to different locations and do different things. If you think about it, a lot of games have repetition.
With that said, I really enjoy the game and you can get sucked into it. I like how you earn currency to buy weapons and upgrades and all the little things make it great. Weapons and Vehicles degrade, Plants actually DO move when you walk on them (the feature Crysis claimed to have) and other little things.
Â
I just bought it last weekend and I'm not impressed at all. Even after one patch, it's still very buggy. The game speeds itself up randomly so that it seems like you're playing at 2-3x normal speed. This makes combat look like a film from the 1920s. Sound cuts out on in game cel phone calls (this is how you get most of your missions) so you don't know what you're supposed to be doing much of the time. Remapping keys (a necessity for lefties like me) don't always save and also screw up the game tutorials. The game is riddled with errors of grammar and spelling. Finally, it's just not that fun. The AI isn't very good and the weapons are anemic. Shooting somebody in the back with a burst from a PKM light machine gun should drop them, not make them turn around and start firing back.

Huh? plants moved when i walked over them in Crysis.
anyway Far Cry 2 is probably the most mediocre big budget game out this year. I suggest you go for Fallout 3,Dead Space,The Witcher,Crysis+Warhead if you are looking for quality titles.Save Far Cry 2 for the summer when its going to be cheap and will be worth playing only because nothing else will be out.

Agree, I thought it was pretty bad. It just doesnt have any quality that "sucks" you in. I have only played like 40 % and idk if ill ever really play it again. I would think about Left 4 dead i love that so far.Â

this was NOT my experience at all. I will agree the graphics aren't the best possible, but mine are fine and I don't think I even have it maxed. At least bushes move when you run up to them :) (unlike Crysis promised)
The game is not perfect, but its a 8.5.
Nope
Single player is repetive and boring especially when it comes to unlocking missions. Basically it leads down to drive to the other end of the map with those annoying ass guard posts that respawn every 30 seconds and blow up an empty truck that drives around in an endless circle till you blow it up. Do this about 20 times. Now you need diamonds for those upgrades, oh well then you have to the same thing as unlocking the weapons but replace the "blow up empty truck" to "kill a guy" The main story line while a little more varied is still not varied enough for me to beat it right now (at 58%)
Then there is the multiplayer. Which is basically broken beyond repair. Last Sunday I just wanted to check up on the online community to see how bad it was doing and I think there was a total of 15 games going.
I thought it was great, and definately worth buying.
bangell99
Not as good as L4D, but I agree with bangell: definitely worth buying.
FC2? If you have a badass pimpin pc that can max it out, you enjoy strolling around putting fps and skill aside it's pretty enjoyable. I enjoyed viewing what surrounded me (in... uhh... low detail =/) and eventually got tired. AI are dumb and... like... artificial? :)
They get outta the vehicle they're driving and stay stoned for like 5-6 seconds, enough to let loose a whole round from your AK into their brain.
To make a long story short, it's not a bad game, but it's really a graphical game in its entirety. Same for all Crysis series, they just get some basic storyline, and that's it. Other RPGs have that and more.

again i don't see how that is a positive for the game? Crysis had impeccable physics and YES foliage did move. You cant even shoot out tires in FC2 or blow up huts and stuff. I don't want to make this a Crysis vs FC2 (no competition really) or judge your preferences but 8.5 is really generous. 7 is more accurate i think.
The missions were fun, but granted, it was tiring to trek back and forth.
I thought it was going to be better than Crysis, but looks like I was wrong. The trailers were impressive, though.

a little too impressiveÂ
Far Cry 2 is worth getting. There is over 40 hours of gameplay and that is higher then many standard FPS games. Alot of the gaming media gave Far Cry 2 a pretty high score.
Another option is wait for Far Cry 2 to drop in price if you arent sure $50 is worth it for this game.
it was the most pleasant surprise of the year for me, and imo it's definitely worth getting. just to give you a better perspective, most of the problems mentioned on this thread never happened to me. for instance, FC2's Dunia is one the most well-rounded engines of this era, with a perfect balance of performance scaling and robust visual quality; AI is actually quite competent, when you take into account the game's sand box nature; gameplay structure does get repetitive, but the impressive gunplay and the visually realistic game world are more than enough to compensate that flaw.
i'm not gonna tell you it's flawless, becoz it's not. but i'll tell you this -- from my experience, most of the things mentioned in this thread are either biased comments or blatant lies, and their recommendations are easily more problematic than FC2. if you want to believe that Crysis would run smoother on yours rig ( in fact, any given rig ), or L4D is able to provide a deep and varied gameplay, be my guest. i'm just here telling you my side of the story, and what to make of it is entire up to you. :)

I would actually like to agree with you, had the roadblocks in this game not existed.
They were the deal-breaker for me. They respawn every thirty seconds. Literally.

Oh, the game looks fantastic in DX10, but looks aren't everything. The game is still a buggy mess for a lot of users. Just a quick saunter over to the Far Cry 2 tech fourms at ubi.com will show this. Â
When it is up and running, it can be a lot of fun, but a lot of what the developers promised hasn't come to pass. They claim on the box that the game offers destructible environments. That's not really the case. You can burn grass and trees, and shoot limbs off trees, but buildings, bridges, and the like stay annoyingly intact. It can get rather frustrating when you want to get at a briefcase with a diamond in it (they're everywhere, don't ask) but it's stuck on top of a corrugated aluminum roof. You'd think something that flimsy would be easy enough to knock apart with a few grenades or even ramming with a jeep, but that's not the case.
For a modern FPS game, the controls feel rather limited in some respects. It's odd that you can't lean around corners or go prone. The game's struck a really odd balance of realism vs. accessability. Bullets do hardly any damage to either you or the enemy, so you can expect to empty half a clip into someone before they drop. In contrast, the game's HUD is quite minimal and gives you no indication as to where the enemy is, so you have to keep your eyes peeled and focus on situational awareness. The only indication you'll get as to an enemy's relative bearing is when you get shot. In that case, you'll see a momentary red radial flash on screen which points in the general direction that the damage is coming from. Â
Personally, I like the minimalist HUD. I only wish the weapons were a little more deadly and the ballistics behaved a little more realistically. You don't have to account for bullet drop or time of flight. Want to use a scoped rifle to shoot somebody? Just centre the crosshairs right on them, even if they're running perpendicular to your plane of vision. No need to lead them at all. Â
Anyway, it can be fun when it's running properly and the game world really does look nice, but there's just not a lot of depth to the game There are dozens of little shacks and huts littering the landscape, but you can't really do anything in them. You can only access first aid kits, save points, dropped weaponry, ammo stores, or water bottles. Â
I'd wait for the price to drop on this one.
Not as bad as most people say it is, but nothing to amazing.
Great graphics, good atmosphere and a great editor.
Bad things = Repetative and the online isnt anything special
For Farcry2 the first 4 hours are alot of fun, but then after that its not as much fun.
BUT... Its a game where you have to use your imagination and creativity to make it fun (kind of like crysis singleplayer, how you have to be creative about how you go about missions, as there are alot of possibilitys).
I gave the game a 8/10
I think the game is amazing. It's better than Crysis, Halo, Half Life, Bioshock, ect. The best part was the variety in missions, the driving and malaria, and the great story which pits you against a guy you want to kill that helps you throughout the game.
The constant annoyances is a love it or hate it affair. I personally think it gives it a personal touch, something you always have to keep in the back of your mind, and makes you really think about people who actually do have malaria.
Sure, driving through checkpoints is annoying, but I"m sure somebody made a mod to make that more realistic (hopefully).
Every quest feels exactly the same and really are when you think about it. It's too bad since the game has alot of potental. Some mods could really make it into a good game but I doubt that FC2 is too mod friendly do to the insane DRM (another reason not to purchace FC2). I could be wrong about the mods since I never really looked into it.

Wow, just wow. I don't even know what to say about that first part except it's not even better than Bioshock of Halo and I'm not even a fan of either but Half Life, wow. I don't even know where to start.
Also, what variety in the missions? They all felt exactly the same to me.
