So I've played a bit of Farcry 2 before and I found it pretty enjoyable (aside from all that driving) and I was thinking of picking it up on steam however I've noticed a lot of hate for the game on these boards, why is that? Is it worth the price?

Ah so it's a drm thing? What exactly does it affect, is it like the drm put on Assasains creed? If so I can deal with that as the game worked fine and I didn't have any issues, does this particular drm cause issues?
mo im wondering the reason myself and seeing as how its from ubisoft i thought it may be the major culprit
It's an extremely monotonous game, where you spend a good 30-50 hours doing the exact same set of missions over and over, while having to deal with constantly respawning guard posts, that are solely there to annoy the **** out of you. Plus, generic, cookie cutter characters and story don't do much to make the game any better. The only thing Far Cry 2 has going for it is the graphics. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
Alot of people didnt like the respawning at checkpoints, the repeataive missions,etc..
I really liked the graphics and afew other things but it did get boring rather fast and there was some pretty big design issues imo.
At 10 or 5$ during a steam sale its worth it, but not for full price.
Far Cry 2 is alright, but its major issue is the fact that it'sawfully repetitive. It gets boring quite fast,
also the respawning pain in the a**;when you kill a group of mercenaries and justwalk away for a few meters, then return to the same spot, and ... they are back!!
Although the graphics areawesome.
Despite this I enjoyed it very much. I think a lot of people were expecting a lot from a Far Cry sequal.Far Cry 2 is alright, but its major issue is the fact that it'sawfully repetitive. It gets boring quite fast,

Well, the game does have this initial 'wow' factor, but it wears off after a few hours of play, when you start noticing the design flaws: resetting cells (i.e. respawning guard posts), a very limited map, the tediousness of the game in general...
Those flaws take a while to get over, but once you do, it's a pretty enjoyable shooter. I beat it a few months ago and I'd rate it around a 7.
