The "scares" are just as cheap and meh and you still have to look exactly where the designers want you to look... but if you don't, the creepy tune still plays and you're like WTF;

Some triggers are broken (the bloody plane spawns out of thin air, I was looking behind me at that part and felt like I jumped back in 2003!);

The weapons have an odd feeling (that shotgun and the laser are lame especially), incendiary grenades are stupid;

The mech section is awful in the mech and impossible on foot;

Goddamn lean is MIA and it's a farking necessity (why would I make myself some cover when I can't use it properly?);

The AI doesn't feel as challenging, and it's TOO FREAKIN' EASY;

The graphics are meh (can you believe it that the water looks worse?)

The blood is ugly. I shot a corpse and the blood spurts looked like red plastic bags jumping to my face:lol:

Etc etc...

Fail. Feels like a Killzone 2 rip-off. Or like COD without the other guys around.

I'd rather play TimeShift, which is awesome and challenging.

[quote="dgsag"]I was majorly disappointed by the demo for several reasons.

1: Black bars on top and bottom.

2: NO LEAN FUNCTION! Are you serious? Even if this was a port, how hard is it to add a lean function? Even Call of Duty games have them!

3: Weapons didn't have the same punch and feel as in the first one.

4: The hud definitely cheapens the experience, because I feel "shielded" from the outside world. DOF_power

>

^ I would add that the enemy AI just doesn't feel so challenging IMO.

The film grain effect is also an eye sore. Overall, I'm glad they pushed out a demo beforehand because I would have wasted my money. Maybe I'll pick it up someday at the discount bin.

Graphics are nice you can tell its been consolefied (is that a word :P) as the original FEAR brought PC's of the time to there knee's no such chance of that happening this time low res textures around and that annoying film grain effect from Mass Effect.

I didn't really like it. Not surprising though because I had to force myself to finish the first one because it was boring. The letter box thing pissed me off. This is 2009. Proper widescreen or bust. It ran great though. Wasn't very visually impressive or anything. Some of the blood stuff seems a bit too much, it's kind of cartoony. The guns felt a bit off for some reason. I don't know what was causing that for me. The scary stuff they put in there just didn't do anything for me. I think that whole kid freak thing just makes the game laughable to me. I can't enjoy it if it feels like a joke.

I played the PC demo and sadly it's turned into a awful console port onto PC. My issues are - * Lack of proper widescreen support. The letter boxing is woefull. * Unable to turn off Grain filter. * Enemies shimmer whenever you point to them. I mean really? Really? * Console-style in game messages (Press E to pick up!!!). * Console style menus with incredibly poor options with HUGE fonts. Where's the head bob, HUD fading options amoungst many others? * Unable to map all the mouse buttons. * Too much micro loading and unstable framerate. (I have a pretty powerful PC) * Slow-mo effects are just lacking. * No lean function. I really expected more from Monolith especially coming from their PC gaming heritage. Incredibly dissapointing considering the brilliance of the original game. That's my pre-order cancelled.

I totally agree, Monolith has sorta let me down.

...and I had high hopes for FEAR 2: PO.

Seriously no lean/peeking bugs me so much, why would they remove it? :(

Guess I'm with the consensus: it's basically a console game. That doesn't stop it from being fun, but the appearance and AI is clearly better suited to sitting a few feet from a big telly with a controller rather than a mouse.

yea i just played through. runs smooth on my pc at max settings at 1920x1200 with 2xAA. I think it looks stunning and they added some really nice particle effects. The whole alma stuff when she tends to creep u out and pop up out of nowhere has been amplified alot. Its a little more gory and in your face more and the poltergeist stuff is cool. The only bad thing about the demo is there isnt just enough blood. But shooting some ones headoff is always satisfying, so is shotgunning some one to pieces and seeing thier body explode,although thats the same as FEAR it just looks a whole lot better this time. Most of the environment is destructible aswell especially inside

oh and does anyone know if the Australian version is going to b modified at all??

I really liked the first FEAR and thought the expansions were alright but this demo is just bad. Not being able to map controls to the mouse is wrong and no quick save and load is just horrible.

Runs smooth, but there's too much short loading and sometimes I can't turn around the camera for a while, just move it up and down, which usually ends with me dying in a ridiculous way.

The impossibility of mapping all the mouse buttons also annoys me, melee attack or zoom with the keyboard seems unnatural.

Funny, but exasperating. I won't buy it.

I have no idea what everyone is complaning about. Ive beaten F.e.a.r. and one of the expansion packs on PC. And to me, F.e.a.r. 2 is far superior to F.e.a.r in nearly every expect.

Except...I dont think theres a nail gun.:cry:

Reading some of these first impressions, I can already tell the game isn't going to be any good. I honestly didn't think the game would live up to its predecessor, but I wasn't expecting such (nearly) unanimous disdain. I'm really getting tired of all these developers pumping out half-baked, buggy sequels that are so "consoleized".

When I got out of the subway, I WALKED towards the guy that says something like "go ahead and check it out" and shotgunned him. The other dude, that was like 10 meters away, didn't react at all.

I reloaded and this time I immediately blew up the gas tank next to the second dude. The first one was like "I HERD SUMTHIN!!!!". Yeah no ****.

Either the AI is bad, or the scripting is craptastic. They act normal after the first one finishes talking, but if I attack while he gives the order, lulz. Yay for moments that totally break the game?

And I noticed the bullet holes are veeeeeeeeery small, a far cry from the first game's mayhem... and that the pillars and wood in the same area suffer no damage when shot. Yay Monolith.

Also my character started to walk without me pressing any button. Lol.

I don't remember seeing this.

* Console style menus with incredibly poor options with HUGE fonts. Where's the head bob, HUD fading options amoungst many others? ord1000
I agree. The menus are pretty lame. The first F.E.A.R.'s menus were pretty bad as well, though.
* Too much micro loading and unstable framerate. (I have a pretty powerful PC) ord1000
The load times were pretty long on my computer, but the frame rate was silky smooth. Maxed out with 2x AA at 1680x1050 with an 8800 GTS 512, I get about an average of 60 FPS.
No lean function. ord1000

It's like they took a step back with F.E.A.R. 2 since the first one had proper widescreen support.

Yes you are quite right. The Original F.E.A.R. didn't have widescreen or FOV support but they eventually implemented it in with a patch. Surley they would have learned from their mistake 3 years ago and included it in with their big game of 2009. What? oh no it would appear that they didn't.

* Enemies shimmer whenever you point to them. I mean really? Really? ord1000
I don't remember seeing this. it occurs when you are in slow-mo mode. What ? Like we can't see the enemy until they are highlighted? *sigh*
* Console-style in game messages (Press E to pick up!!!). ord1000
Making a game user-friendly doesn't make it "console-style." The first game was user friendly and above all subtle. I.E. a hand symbol when the player needed to interact with something. This system is obnoxious and tells me that I need to interact (constantly) whenever I come across a gun/ammo/grenade/door/object that should be thrown etc etc etc.
* Console style menus with incredibly poor options with HUGE fonts. Where's the head bob, HUD fading options amoungst many others? ord1000
I agree. The menus are pretty lame. The first F.E.A.R.'s menus were pretty bad as well, though. No the first game menus were fantastic. Where is the framerate performance test? What about the HUD fading options? Why can't I map my mouse side buttons? Why can't I control the rate of my head bob? All these were in the original game (3 and a half years ago) so why not the sequal?
* Too much micro loading and unstable framerate. (I have a pretty powerful PC) ord1000
The load times were pretty long on my computer, but the frame rate was silky smooth. Maxed out with 2x AA at 1680x1050 with an 8800 GTS 512, I get about an average of 60 FPS. I have a high end quad core CPU, 4 GB of RAM and a Radeon HD4870X2 GPU and I experience smooth FPS on 1650X1050 yet the framrate would still stutter at times because the game relies on too much micro loading of background textures.
No lean function. ord1000
I wtf'ed when I couldn't lean.

Same.

I'm sorry but this sequal has come out almost 4 years after the original game and it seems like it's a step backwards. Judging purely from the demo then this is terrible compared to the first game and seeing as the game comes out in 3 weeks (so it being so close to gold) then I can't see them fixing the PC version for relesae.

I have just one question.Where the f*** (i am trying to be kind) is the auto-regenerated health that the developers were proudly speaking for in videos and interviews????????biltros

When they we're doing play tests with that game mechanic, they found that too many players would run into the fight, then retreat and end up waiting for their health to recover, which resulted in the player just standing around. They decided that health packs allowed the player to spend less time standing around and more time actually playing.

Is this the developers' official statement because i remember watching a video interview in which they caimed that they chose regenerated health so that the player doesn't need to collect health packs and constantly check how many he has.Maybe this is the reason they put a maximum number of 3 you can carry.

Well, in the first game it was 10 health packs, each one returned a large portion of health points. But I guess they thought that 10 was to many, so now it's 3 that return a large amount of health points. I guess the developers had to choose the lesser evil here, I'm kinda glad they brought the med kits back personally.

I thought it was very good, If I had any complaints, it would be about a couple of things, including the small stuttering (or is it loading? am not sure!), and I was honestly expecting more from the graphics. But other than that, its really fun to play, the frame rate is great (running all maxed on a GTX260 SC+), and the gameplay is just as good as the first one. I do agree that the menus are rubbish though.

The AI is crap. They pulled down tables for cover, but they seemed more intent on running to me in the vain hope they will be able to kill me before I kill them, instead of tactically flanking me from the first F.E.A.R. The lack of leanining sucks as well, and the new guy starts off with slow-mo as well. Wonder how they're going to explain that. Still a bit scary, but not really as creepy as the original, and the new guy, Michael Beckett, plays just like Point Man. He has slow-mo and can do the bicycle kick that Point man does.

I kinda like it, visually it looks great IMO, sure it's no Crysis (hell it aint even Dead Space :D) but it looks very good and runs very well to, however i hate the fact theres no proper 4/3 resolutions (dam console forced 16/9 widescreen!), the AI is kinda lame as even on hard they don't really pose any challange at all and like others have said, no leaning is just WTF!. Gotta say i'm borderlined on it, i just aint sure if i would be willing to part full price for it in it's current state, if it doesn't get proper resolutions and better AI etc then i may just wait and buy it on sale or something.

Well, i just finished it. It seems that they attempted to fix the complaints from the frist game, and in the process screwed up everything good, like the AI. The pacing is just like the first's, you will either run into some soldiers, or some paranormal crap at every corner. It still has the moments where you will walking and suddenly you will be shifted into a view of Alma's mind, but these are very brief, lasted around 6 seconds. Woohoo. Graphics are good.

In order to get the best game play experience, it is not recommended to run F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin at high resolutions. You should avoid resolutions above 1024x768 for 4:3 displays, 1280x768 for 16:10 displays, and 1280x720 for 16:9 displays on any current generation card. Instead, use the full-screen anti-aliasing (FSAA) option under the Advanced Options menu. This helps improve the visual quality of the final scene without dramatically increasing the amount of work that must be performed.

Epic fail. It's in the Readme. Epic fail.

I've just finished the demo & i have to say that i'm not really impressed. This game looks like it's going to be good & worth getting but from this demo there's alot of problems which will make the experience less enjoyable.

My first problem is the fact that you can't lean. Why did that take this option away? I don't get it. With a game like this i'm shocked that they haven't added in the lean option or even better, some sort of cover system. Enemies take cover so why not you?

The weapons. Every weapon i used there was not much recoil going on. I had a sniper rifle & i noticed very little recoil at all even though it's a powerful weapon & would set you back a notch.

Where's the full screen? Why do we have to play this in the letter box style?

Flashlight? What flashlight? Does the character not carry any spare batteries with him? It feels like his flashlight is going to die any seconds because his batteries are low.

On the positive side, the AI is great. I was impressed with the way they took cover with the objects around them.

The cutscenes are also good, i got a few scares whilst walking down a corridor, maybe it's because i was playing in the dark with headphones on.

This is one of my most anticipated games of 2009. Although i'm saddened by the demo, i'm still going to get this game hoping i can get away from it's problems & enjoy the experience & enjoy Alma.

They said something similar about F.e.a.r., you werent suppose to run the game past 1024x768.

Cool, makes me want to shoot myself in the leg for that game even more.
