F.E.A.R. came out and then there were several expansion packs. There was also one called director's cut. And now F.E.A.R. 2 is coming out.

Do I need to play the expension packs to understand the storyline? And for the director's cut, do I need F.E.A.R. or is that F.E.A.R. with some extra things?

Please explain. I just play games, I am not very up-to-date.

F.E.A.R first a foremost is a brilliant game, and yes the directors cut is F.E.A.R plus extra content. You do not need to go through the expansions to get the main plot line, consider them as spin off's.

Can't wait for F.E.A.R 2 :D.

I don't know about the stories in the expansion.

I think the Director's Cut has some little movie with real actors. It's a short thing. I saw it once but I don't remember it. There may also be a documentary on the making of F.E.A.R. Don't quote Herrick on that.

My understanding is that Fear 2: Project Origin will follow on from the first Fear, in other words it will ignore both Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate

having said that Extraction Point is a decent expansion pack, even if it doesn't make much sense plot-wise

F.E.A.R is an awesome game and you should definitely try it.

Extraction Point, the first expansion, is better than F.E.A.R and you should absolutely try it.

Perseus Mandate, the second expansion (which is a standalone), is not as good as either F.E.A.R or EP, but is a very solid game all the same.

I'd recommend you buy all three, however, neither expansion was developed by Monolith and Monolith does not consider either expansion part of the F.E.A.R canon. And now, thanks to Monolith taking ownership of the F.E.A.R name, story-wise neither expansion ever happened.

But here is an easy rule: if it has F.E.A.R in the title, it's definitely worth playing. Don't listen to GameSpot.

all three are good eg 2 got more scares and continues were the previous left so you need it in stoy, madate adds some stuff that were not used in the previous eg grenade laucher scoped auto rilfe challenging elite fast bullet dodging enemies, a boss even mech fights and destructable level events or some nice bigger bonus levels

only thing ididnt like about fear is tha its mainly same enemies same tight corridos small borring corridors and no vehilces all problems fixed in point of origin!
