The FEAR collection is on Steam today for $13.50. I liked the first one a whole lot, but i haven't played it in ages, and never had it on my current computer. Haven't ever played the rest of them, but I've been vaguely interested, amid mixed reviews. Are the others halfway decent? Even if the story goes to sh!t and gets lame, are they at least solid shooters, with good gunplay and graphics? Whole thing (with the expansions and DLCs) worth 13 bucks? All the individual games are also discounted, so, saving nothing extra by getting the package, are the any that just stand out as a "don't bother" game?

Nope. The first one is the only good one.

The first one is the best, but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series. I just bought FEAR 3 today and beat a full playthrough on Coop with a friend. I don't know how good the third one would be without coop though.

I've yet to play the third one, but the first two are worth it. While FEAR 2 isn't as good as the original, it's still by no means a bad game. I enjoyed it a lot.

Would you say it's more of the same? Because I think I'd dig that, so long as there's nothing in particular that's new, and sucked.

Also, anyone who's played the third, I was reading the decription of FEAR 3 on Steam, and it says there's some kind of proprietary "random event" thingy..? Also, they're seriously touting the story, and the cinematics. Plus the co-op. Does any of that really work out to be something good?

13 bucks? It's easily worth that, especially if you have someone to co-op FEAR 3 with.

FEAR 2? Yeah, it's pretty much more of the same in terms of narrative, gameplay and atmosphere. It's just that it doesn't have the original's wow-factor.

Cool. I'll probably at least pick that up, then. They're all individually discounted, so FEAR 2 is less than 4 bucks. Have you played the DLC for FEAR 2? Worth another $2.50?

The first one is excellent with some of the best gunplay of this generation, and it'll look good on a modern computer. The second one isn't nearly as good, but it's not a bad game, it's a good game and worth a playtrough if you're a fan of the first one. I haven't played the third one, though people have said that the co-op is great fun.

Overall, 13 bucks is a steal, you should definitely not even question wether you should get these three games for such a minuscule price tag.

Let us not forget Extraction Point. That was pretty good too, I'd say.

That's alright. Well, just went ahead and got FEAR 2, plus a new copy of FEAR. Figured it'd be nice to have it in Steam, maybe play it again, plus, just saw that it also includes both the expansions for free, and I never played those. Also, saw that FEAR 3 was made by a different developer. Probably the reason for the mixed reviews... If someone gives me a stellar review of 3 on here before the sale ends, I'll pick it up, too.

As you can see it got some very decent reviews. I'd get it for five bucks.

You might as well get the FEAR 2 DLC as well. Dunno about you, but for a small price I'd have to grab it plus I like completing everything. Extraction Point is a great expansion, but I heard Perseus Mandate wasn't as good (more of the same, but no where near as polished.)

FEAR 3 is a very fun game, but remember it was built around the idea of co-op. Finished the game with a friend yesterday. Graphics were obviously the best of the series (but not PC focused like it should've been,) it has plenty of jump scares (which is the only thing solo would be better for,) the sound is excellent (can hear some really spooky sh*t at times,) and playing as Fettel is really fun. The enemies are enjoyable encounters, although I don't think they used the environment to their advantage like they do in FEAR 1.

As for the bad, you can't switch players in co-op (host will always be Point Man,) when going solo you have to beat a mission as Point Man before playing as Fettel, there is a encounter with a certain enemy near the end that the game doesn't really state what you should be doing (shoot, run away, melee it, what am I supposed to do?,) the game is kinda short, no in-game text chat, and the gunplay isn't as good as FEAR 1 (dunno about 2. I thought there should've been more guns or different ones with different firing modes like full auto or burst. The least they could've done is give us more ammo or an ammo box throughout the game, or let us keep ammo from guns that we aren't using.)

For not being their own franchise, Day 1 did one hell of a job living up to the FEAR name imo. For 5 bucks the game is a steal even if you're planning on going solo.

cant go wrong with all that, but dont overplay them, they are kinda repettive, see this as an invenstment to always have some decent gunplay to play.

Yeah, it's worth it. The expansions (especially Extraction Point) trump the first game in some areas, and FEAR 2 is a lot better than some people give it credit for. FEAR 3 really isn't a good game, and it has little to do with the series. But still, in co-op it can be really fun. I also read about that random event thing, but I haven't actually noticed it in 2 playthroughs, not to mention that it is not scary in the slightest.

Yes. First one is brilliant and the other two are mediocre but better than 90% of shooters.

I'm playing the FEAR expansions now and I like them more than the first game - the combat is a lot more intense and the horror is more imaginative.

FEAR 2 is lame.

FEAR 3 feels more like the first one, which is surprising since it's a new developer. It also does everything FEAR 2 did, but better. The mech sections are glorious! It's a very fun game in coop. In singleplayer, playing as the Point Man, the combat reaches Bulletstorm levels of madness. IIRC in the first level you have to kill more than 70 dudes and it just keeps getting faster and more furious.

You can get $14 out of F.E.A.R alone. One of the best shooters around.

I disagree - it doesn't matter how much of a discount it got before, what matters is what's being offered right now and even with the extra $3.5 I think it's definitely worth it!

Simply put, if you like shooters, yes it's worth it.

If you like FPS with a story, not it's not worth it.

Fear 1 and its expansions are awesome....get them for sure! Even Perseus Mandate which is a little rough round the edges is also great. Fear 2 despite what alot of people say is also a great great game! Not as good as the first game, but I still really enjoyed it. I really dont understand the hate it gets! Fear 3 on the other hand sucks, the game is basically a slow paced, garbage, call of duty clone and is NO where near as good as the first two. Massive disappointment. I didnt play it in co-op though so perhaps that may redeem it somewhat...

Well it failed miserably if it was trying to be a horror game because I didn't find it scary at all. They nailed single player linear fps perfectly though.

I bought F3AR for $5, haven't played it but what can go wrong with a small price of that
