So, Iv already got a PII 545 ready to go which I got from my mother in laws computer, But I dont have a AM3 socket Motherboard, So Iv decided to get this one, but i also dont have DDR3 so Im going to get these. Im planning on using everything I can from my current computer which means all up I'll have:

Case: Thermaltake Soprano

CPU: AMD Phenom II 545

*Motherboard: Asus M4A79XTD-EVO

*RAM: OCZ Technology OCZ3G1600LV4GK (2x2GB)

Graphics: Saphire HD4870

PSU: Thermaltake XP550 NP (430W)

The only thing Im really concerned about is whether the RAM is compatible, and if my PSU will be able to handle the extra 2GB RAM and a Duel Core.

So Iv pretty much decided this is what I'll be getting, but I would still like to hear any suggestions anyone may have. Will this be all compatible? Will I need more power? Is the RAM compatible with the PII? Anyway, thanks in advance.

As far as the motherboard goes, its fairly decent. Picked one up my self a few months ago. Has some nice features....not the best, but definetly not the worst. The only drawback imo is that the second pci-e lane is only 8x. Not exactly the best if you wanna run a dual gpu setup. Other than that, i am very satisfied.

The rest of your components look fairly decent also. You'll have a nice rig when all is said and done. Might wanna upgrade your CPU in the next year or so. The new AMD 6-cores might be a good option.....

Oh yea....your question about the ram....as far as it being compatible, the only thing you have to worry about is if its compatible with the mobo, not the cpu. I just checked the manual for the mobo, and I didnt see the ram you're looking to get on the list. I would go to the Asus website and bring up the manual (pdf) to see the list of "compaitible ram".

Just noticed your PSU.....more power more power. Dont take my word on it, but i doubt that 430w will be able to power that 4870.

Yea....just checked the EGG, and the recommended psu is 450w minimum. You might be able to get away with 430w, but it'll be close.

lol, the 4870 is being power with the 430W PSU at the moment, I was hopping to get away from having to get a new PSU straight away. I guess I'll just see how it goes once i get all the parts and if it doesnt run I'll know what I need to do. :P

lol....well there you go....if its working now, then you'll proly be fine. Dont think the new cpu/mobo/ram will push you over the top, but you never know.

Ok, so looked into the OCZ RAM and seems lots of people have nothing but trouble with it and this Motherboard, so I think I might go with this instead. I cant find anything bad about it on the net, but its not in the Compatible list for the MB either. Anyone able to confirm if this will run ok with this motherboard?

Just checked my manual, and didnt see this new ram you're looking at on the compatibility list either. Just visit the Asus website and you'll be able to bring up the same list that im looking at. The ram im using (which is on the list) is G.skill model # F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK. Its two sticks at 2gigs for a total of 4gigs. Works fine for me....scored a 7.5 on the windows experience index. Price was around the $100 mark if I remember correctly. It compliments the M4A70XTD-EVO as well, because this is blue in color also.....looks sharp.
