Just when you figured human intelligence couldn't get lower it became all so much lower. Peoples perspectives and ever growing civilizations, as the great Nikolai Tesla once said I would have the last laugh. Here's a link buds. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/300575.html?playlist=featured

lol, they wouldn't have a clue about gaming. Obviously they are completely unfamiliar with multiplayer in saying it is sociable and you don't communicate etc.

The thing I hate most about these people is that they only look at it from their own point of view and not from the people actually doing it.

Honestly i can see it from both point of views. However the most classic thing is that when they talk about video game addiction they take the worst cases they can.

I have seen a movie where gamers (and yes they are serious) sit and say "I learn how to ... (shot with a gun, do tricks with a snowboard)" when they ask them what they learn from the games.

But like i said its the worst case. Me? I play for and not for some higher reason, not to learn stuff. Just plain and simple fun.

Now we gamers sit here and say they are wrong and so on, but if you take the worst addicted people then they are correct. But the average gamer dont have the problems these people talk about.

Actually she made very good points and I thought that was one of the better interviews on the subject by a guest on Fox.

well lets see here fox is owned by the same news sources as CNN and PBS and NBC i believe we can safely call them all trash tabloids as CNN is the pinnacle of this. the others follow suit because they know it sells and add/subtract a few stories to add variation. its not hard to notice this go watch em all at once and right down the topics they discuss you will find them almost identical to the next.

Work filters strike again!

Didn't see the interview, but if it's Fox news it's bound to have the most biased and fear inspiring twist to it than any other sender...

I'm actually surprised, that wasn't nearly as biased and unfair as I expected from Fox News. They even listed some of the positives of gaming.

The problem lies with the fact that older generations, for the most part, still don't fully understand the power of the internet. Whereas they were forced to go outside for any social interaction, today's kids can get that social interaction from instant messaging, voicechat in games, etc. Whether that type of interaction is as healthy as "normal" social activity is another debate entirely, but the fact remains that Xbox Live, MMO's, and other types of online gaming have brought the social aspect of gaming to the forefront.

Funniest part of that interview "12-15 hours a day"... who were they researching, the 1 out of 50 or 100 who never leaves his/her room? Most of the argument made sense, but that bit made me laugh

Wow. This is really stupid. Fox is owned by a media conglomerate controlled by rupert murdoch. NBC is owned by GE. CNN is owned by with cbs as mostly private equity. and PBS is of course made by the american government and not owned by anyone. Furthermore, I haven't heard many people say CNN and Fox cover the same stories or cover them in the same way.

Come on bud these arguments are based around moral beliefs. Yes the research is there but really what is the negative side of game addiction in normal society. It's much more complex then the straight forward answers of these arguments. If gaming is an escape for some due to depression of society then I think that's a positive then rather contributing to the number 1 cause of death rate in the US which is suicide from depression. Some people just need time and self rewarding for confidence to continue the journey in life and that's through hobbies. Gaming has had a huge psychological impact on my life and it was through engaging massive amounts of hours to such a desire I admire.

GAME ADDICTION:

1. Doing something a lot becuase its enjoyable is not an addiction, its called free time.

2. One of the requirements for something to be addictive is withdraw symptoms. Ever seen someone withdrawn from heorin? Now THAT is an addiction. Most other so called "addictions" are just crap.

I have a feeling the ones who don't get this and take this interview so defensively may actually have issues with game "addiction"...

When my mom and dad didnt let me go to the park to play with my friends because I had chores to do, I would go to my room, become grouchy, and refuse to eat.

Golly, I didnt know I was addictd to slides, monkey bars, and sand pits.

i think for kids, everything is good in moderation, they do make good points in the vid but, if your willing to letyour kids stare at games for 10 hours, then just make them run around playing for 10:D seriously, i grew up with consoles and p.c s with great games, and i still wanted to go out and flay fooball basketball and was really active, and the social aspect in gaming is as good as it is in sport.

i think it just depends on what kind of person you are to begin with, i love to do both, but i know loads of my friends that grew up not being active and gaming all the time, and they are just fine too,

nobody should stop their kids from playing computer games all together. (in my opinion but im often wrong....)

They rag on videogame addiction like its actually a bad thing. Even if it was as big of a problem as they would want you to think, why is that such a big deal?

Its not like there are THAT many more things to do in life other than go to work and pay your bills and sleep and mingle with the select few RL people you can be around for more than an hour without wanting to vomit.

If you choose to spend your time gaming then whats wrong with that, addicted or not?

They need to stop blaming games for antisocial behaviour and start blaming the world (and the people in it) for sucking bad enough that people would rather spend time with other virtual people than they would with a real person.

Then how do they know if someone is addicted? what, specifically, is the test? convulsions on the floor with foam coming out thier mouth? I joke there but I am serious about the question.

All she was saying is that game addiction is bad, if someone cant leave a game with getting craving and gets irritable then they have a problem,,,if you want to think there is no problem with that then be my guest!

She has a good point, she said that video games highten iq, cause kids to think spacially, and in case you havent noticed, kids do become addicted to video games, so really i agree with her. She said if kids are playing 12-15 hours a day that is a problem. I completely agree that if you are spending at least half of your life playing games you need some help. If people were just not lazy enough to go fun a few miles a day (not that hard really) then there wouldnt be this whole obesity argument

I agree with this, I thought the conversation was fairly rational and discussed both sides, it wasn't particularly serious but pointed out addiction, and it's a problem like it or not.

Says the guy on the internet. LOL You're probably subjected to a 100x the amount of advertising on-line than you get from TV.
