I have an alienware m15x and all of my games are having framerate issues, even at less demanding settings. Can this be fixed or is this a serious issue?

Odd. Now it is only happening with L4D2 and Fallout New Vegas. Thoughts anyone?

NVIDEA GFORCE GTX c260m graphics

Intel Core I7 CPU

Pretty much the standard M15x specs.

Check so your drivers are up to date. It could also be the GPU, it´s not very good for gaming.

I think that GPU is a bit weak for games. So if youre playing new games and trying to max them on that, then it could be the problem. What kinda games are you running? and what settings?

And what do you mean by less demanding settings? medium?

All of this started happening after Fallout New Vegas crashed at a loading screen. I couldnt do anything, not even task manager, so I had to do a force shutdown. After that, all of this happened. Is it possible thatis the problem?

Check your Drivers. the GTX260m is still fine for most games on medium settings. And you should easily be Maxing L4D2. I'm doing it with my 4650 with great FPS.

Scan for viruses. Force shutdown will do no damage to the computer FYI.

I am updating my drivers, Is it possible that drivers are the problem if some games work and some dont? If it was a driver issue, none of the games would work. Or would they?

Old drives can cause game crashes but that rarely happens. Most of the time it is FPS drops.

Nevermind about the above comment. I chose the wrong kind of driver. It is updating as we speak. Dont know if it will help though.

Lets hope that it was something that screwed up when the update was interrupted in the drivers. Cause then reinstalling drivers would fix it. Lets see what happens...

If it comes to the worst scenario, you could just reinstall windows all over again. Don't do that yet though... leave that as a last resort.

Windows itself was updating, not the driver. The crash didnt occur after the windows update.

I figured out what is causing the problem. Whenever I plug the laptop in, the computer actually performs WORSE! When I unplug it, it plays like it is suppost to. I dont know how to fix this problem however.

Go to control panel and click on power options and tinker around with those settings.

I put it on Performance Mode and it still wont work well. If i play unplugged, it works for a few minutes, then the framerate starts sucking again.

Does the M15x have Optimus? It could be that your laptop is running them on the secondary graphics chip rather than the 260.

Pretty sure the M15X has a second card which it uses to reduce power consumption. Something like an intel HD3000.

I found that turning down the graphics helps, but I shouldn't have to, because it used to work without doing so.

This is becoming disturbing when even Dragon Age Origins is suffering from framerate issues. A fix, anyone, or shall I continue to suffer. Even unplugged, the framerate still has issues.

I had the same problem. You should make sure that stealth mode isnt on. Once i turned it off it went back to normal. Stealth mode is the last touch sensitive button at the top right.

Ive been having the same problem with my Mx15 lately....I7 quad processor Radeon 5850 card.....processor is a little outta date 2.73 Ghz but i used to run most games just fine, and now everything is slow. If the stealth mode is the "throttle" picture on the top right i can hit that and it speeds it up for a second and then just bumps me back to slow fps, any suggestions?

The 260 is an old card, I had a friend with an Alienware of the same model as yours with that card. Needless to say, about a year ago it shutdown randomly and never started again. The reliability of Alienware is low.

Which resolution are you playing at?

I believe the M15X is suited for 1280*768 so don't expect good results at 1920*1080.

Stock drivers won't work natively, lookfor insight. You need to either do a little editing in Notepad or wait for Dell/Alienware to update their branded driver version.

Make sure the graphics card is the preferred gpu in Nvidia control panel.
