Dear fellow PC Gamers:

I didn't participate in the Conan MMORPG, but I've been reading in the comments of The Secret World a lot of vitriole regarding its developer, Funcom, related to Conan. Can anyone give me the rundown? Was Conan bad (it looks like it was highly-regarded by critics) or just Funcom's support of said product? What am I missing?

Happy gaming,

Boz

Lack of content killed Age of Conan. So that would fall under, Lack of Developer Support, I guess.

Conan failed because of lack of end game content. Like most failing MMORPG games, the developers focus too much on the story and quests that lead up to the highest player levels, and not enough on the end game content. The real meat of any MMO should be in the end game, that's the goal for most people playing is to reach the highest level they can, and then they ask "Now what?" To fix the problem there needs to be PvP (preferably global PvP in end game stages, but typically just arena combat) and raid quests, or quests that involve a large number of competent, highly leveled, well fitted characters. Raid should take hours to complete to keep people interested for a longer period of time. The loot needs to be rewarding bu not overpowered. I think the end game has a lot to do with the in-game economy also, but that is a far more complicated discussion that I'll save for another time.
