In the future will it all be digital downloads? Because i would hate that.

I have no idea how or why people could hate digital distribution unless you just love box art that much.
No disc switching.

No discs getting scratched.
In the future the PC will play games on you.As for DD,maybe in the next decade or so when most people have a fast internet connection, some people still use dialup even today because of cost.Once fast internet is cheap as chips they may fully go digital, who knows...
Because, not everyone wants to sit in the house and have stuff handed to them. Seriously, things are going twards being more and more lazy...Soon restaurants will be "Order online only" no one will step foot from their houses to breath fresh air because they wont have to....I have no idea how or why people could hate digital distribution unless you just love box art that much.

Depends how far into the future we're talking. I'm pretty sure DD is going to take over in the coming 5-10 years; then eventually, as net line speeds increase, we'll end up streaming games without the need for any substantial download. That's my prediction anyway. jimmyjammer69
Quake Live is already heading in that direction, which I think is pretty cool. Just a short 10-minute set-up, and you're playing Quake III from your web browser.

i don't see why i need to entrust a 3rd party to safeguard my properties and control the way i enjoy them. I haven't lost or damaged a single cd/dvd for the past 10 years or so. maybe some people have problems trusting themselves, but not me.
I actually agree. I'd still want a .exe file or something 'hard' rather than having to download them each time. There really isn't anything keeping me from losing all my games if steam goes down (they probably won't for awhile though).I have no idea how or why people could hate digital distribution unless you just love box art that much.

Reminds me of the movie Wall-E.. Anyways, no digital distribution won't be the wave of the future because believe it or not, ISPs are capping download limits because sites like Youtube are destoying their services. I like drink coasters err I mean discs..I have no idea how or why people could hate digital distribution unless you just love box art that much.

I hope not. DD promotes impulsive buying, you can just get the game with a few clicks and doesn't really give you the feeling when you see lines of games and look at them wondering which one is the best.
Plus I like showing of a big collection of DVD's.

Buying stuff via internett is not about beeing lazy, its about beeing practical. I dont feel like im working out or beeing social when i enter a crowded shopping mall to pick up my games, i actually feel pretty bad. "DD destroyed my social life and my physical health" aww come on, really?....
[QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]Can we download Uwe Boll? I would prefer deleting him...Awww but I like Uwe Boll.[QUOTE="SamiRDuran"]in the future people will be downloaded, not born.dnuggs40

Pretty much yea, as someone who has to move in the next town 20 minutes away to buy games, i embraced digital downloads and so far have been loving it since it's actually cheaper and accessible.
As for the restaurant comments... cmon, that's one hell of a terrible comparison, you go to the restaurant to eat food with people, its a social activity unless you want to order which btw is done by phone (omg it's so less lazy right?), i don't go to a game shop to play with people, i go to buy games and come back home.
I would prefer deleting him...Awww but I like Uwe Boll. You and his mother must be the only one then. On topic, while I don't think Digital distribution is all that, as I prefer to use the old fashioned way to aquire a game, delete it after some time and install it later on for free thanks to having the Cd placed within it's box. With Digital Distribution I'm pretty sure that if you uninstall a game for disk space then later when you want to play it then you'll have to buy it again. Unless everyone buys external Harddisks and store them full with games. Also the prospect of having to be online to play the games don't really go well with me either, if your Internet goes down then you can't enjoy the games because you'd need the internet connection to play them, Like Mass Effect. But whatever i say will probably fall on deaf ears as Digital distribution would ensure game developers more money and getting money is Alpha and Omaga In the modern day society.[QUOTE="dnuggs40"][QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]Can we download Uwe Boll?

I have no problem with digital download as long as there's healthy competition between services. Monopolies mean less services for customers.

At some point when it becomes more cost effective to only distribute games digitally I imagine this will be the case, but this could be in 10 or more years. Interesting user name you've got by the way.

think back 10 years ago how much system mermory did you have? the leap is technolgy should lead us too believe in 10 years we should come farther then what we can do now...btw steam has a offline mode where you can play single player only

Key word: only. A huge segment of the market would no longer purchase games if they were not distributed via retail.

lol sorry but still 10 years?Personally, I think PC gaming will move to a more DD focused market much sooner than people expect. I predict in the next 5 years will see a dramatic shift (we already are seeing it) and off-the-shelf pc gaming will be virtually non-existent. We already are seeing a huge decline in the number of PC games on the shelf and several local gaming shops have removed them completely.
I also think it's a great thing.
You can say that there's a large segment of the market that will not buy PC games by DD, but that does not make it true. There's already a very large market for it and new DD sites are popping up with the already solid DD sites like Steam, D2D, Gamersgate, GoGamer, and others.
I know some of you gamers are so sentimental about box art, manuals, whatever, but DD makes so much sense. It will keep the industry alive and thriving, and I belive will allow for more features and advantages to the pc gamer. To me, boxes, manuals and cds are clutter and a waste of resources.

I agree. I'm 13, been playing games since I was two, and I've never lost a game or damaged one. I have a couple of scratched PSP UMDs, but that's because I'm cheap and bought them used. Also, I like to have a case to the game. the only games that I don't want a disk for are free to play MMOs like Perfect World International, 2Moons, adn Combat Arms. Very fun, and they work with my crappy video card.
