Is it ethical to use these programs to play games with ur friends online, considering the fact that these clients don't have any mechanism to detect whether that your game is legit or not. You could be playing with pirates, hackers, etc... Im just asking this question to see what others think. And i find it ok to use them, when the Publisher/Developer drop the MP support for the game, in other words Shutdown the servers.

Be a bit more clear with your reasons. What other ethical reason is there to use these programs except if the multiplayer servers are shut down? Are you wanting to play a multiplayer game with your pirate friends?

I use gameranger sometimes to play old ghost recon 1 games with friends, it works very well. Also some friends of mien cannot connect onlien for terraria on steam so we have used gameranger for that also. Also some of my older games that dont have servers.

If you are asking about pirated games on there, I have no clue, have not tried.

They're just virtual LAN programs. Tunngle, Hamachi, ect, all do the same thing (results may vary.)

I've used it a couple times to play with friends who haven't necessarily obtained the game in a legal fashion, so it serves its purpose and actually works pretty well the few times i've used it.

I think its in their best interest to not have any verification if they want there program to continue gaining popularity. I'm sure a large majority of gameranger,tunngle,etc... are people who haven't obtained there games in a legal fashion, so if they did end up inserting some kind of verification to check if the game is a legit copy, they would be losing a large percentage of people who use there program.

If there will be a decision to make these programs being able to detect if a game is genuine or not, another program for LAN/VPN will appear. For example Hamachi is made to make possibe a LAN over the internet - VPN - not for games only, so nobody can make them to make a "games policy". Best/worst thing that can happen is to force GameRanger devs to change its name.
