I've read through about a dozen articles on the internet (all of them horror stories) and searched these forums for anything that might sell me on some great feature of GFWL that I can't live without, but the general concensus seems to be that it's a sucky piece of junkware that I should avoid installing at all costs. Do I have this correct?

Thanks. :)

Hello mate, Mauro here. I can tell you for sure that I have NEVER had a problem with Games For Windows Live since the starting, I have several games with it (GTA IV, Fallout 3, Warhammer Dawn of War II, Gears of War, Halo 2) and never had a single crash or problem, just install the game, log in, and boom play it without hassle. I don't know why people hate it so much, and I also don't know how come they're having all those issues, maybe bad configurations or messed up systems, it's the only explanation I can give you since as I told you I've never had a problem with it (I don't work for Microsoft and they don't pay me I assure you), to me it's been a dream come true having the same features which where exclusives only for Xbox users. Now make your choice.

Mauro.

i wouldnt say avoid like the plague..i have a few GFWL games and it mostly behaves itself. its just a complete waste and irrelevant since MS dont properly back or support it. services like steam and impulse make it a completly pointless piece of software and it will remain so until MS take PC gaming seriously again (which they wont). but its not a horror story in my experience. it does at least work and doesent make a mess of your OS. i remember having a bit fo trouble with DOW2 but a quick poke around dinternet fixed it. nothing serious.
