games similar to half-life 2, but only part

Just played half-life 2, not impressed at all, except for the last few levels. Good gameplay and brilliant sceneries.

Looking for games that are similar to these parts, in gameplay, puzzles and sci fi-sceneries.

Examples: MDK1&2, Portal 1&2, Metroid Prime.

ONLY games made before 2012 and preferably for PC.

@Yams1980: I already know Timeshift, and I very much agree with you that the game is superior. mostly in gameplay...

Somehow the game did not felt that immersive though.
