I think the whole problem could be solved by making games companies put a little starforce logo on the back of Starforced games. All done. Most games arent starforced and good ones that are are usually out on consoles.
My DVD-RW drive doesnt work thanks to Starforce.
Starforce is a copy protection program.
Here's a question: How do you people know that Starforce was the reason that your drive stopped working? It seems kinda farfetched to me, I've never had the slightest problem with Starforce (have 2 games that use it).
IDK, i have many Starforce games: GTR, GTR 2, GT Legends, Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones, The Suffering: Ties That Bind... and never had a problem with it, although my previous DVD-RW (Toshiba) suddenly appeared to have redundant cyclic errors when burning DVD's andstopped burning CD's. Might have been the Starforce causing it, might not. Now i have an ASUS DVD-RW and so far it works fine.
IMO, only big deal was cracking it, but last i heard it was cracked by group called ''RELOADED''...
I've only have one game that has Starforce on it and that is Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. Yes, it is quite annoying because it has to check the disc every single time but that does not stop me from buying the game, also, I have had no problems with it so far. I think it would probably only be a real big problem for software pirates and that's it.ryan_returns29actually thats not true at all starforce has been bypassed for every game that has it.
I think it would probably only be a real big problem for software pirates and that's it.ryan_returns29Actually it's the opposite, pirates are the ones who's having the least problems with starforce. Pirates don't need the dvd/cd in the drive, so they don't run the risk of ruining it I've only bought ONE starforce game (which I bought just a few weeks before I started hearing about it)... I didn't have any problems though, as I never had the CD in the drive
I've had StarForce prevent me playing games that I have bought because it doesn't like the disc (Bet On Soldier).
Also since having SF protected games my main DVD drive has taken longer checking discs, not just for SF games, but for all discs, and makes considerably more noise when it is checking than when it was new. Maybe it was SF, maybe it wasn't. But with all the bad press about SF, all the people hating it, the claims of hardware failures - the sheer volume of it is hard to ignore - there's no smoke without fire.
If I find out a game has SF I will not buy it. For SF protected games I already own I will only play them if I can find a cracked exe.
