Gearbox to Port Halo Reach to the PC?!

Okay so over at the Gearbox forums someone asks if anyone wants to play Halo CE for PC. A few posts later a Gearbox employee says what about Halo Reach (PC).

After questions from posters whether he is confirming something he goes on to say 'yes, no, maybe.'

Also, at this years Games Con Microsoft is starting off its press conference with PC info. First time in years MS will make a mention of the PC in a game conference. So who knows.

If this does happen is anyone here interested?

For those who don't know, Gearbox is the one who ported Halo:CE to the PC.

I am surprised they never ported Halo 3 by now and it seems odd that they skipped 3 and immediently went to Reach. Anyways, i wonder if it will release in a couple of months after the 360 version or they will launch side by side.

I may get it when the price drops, if it's not a bad port. Could use some eye candy :D

The beta was awesome and the new forge system looks to add a lot of replayability. I can't wait to get it this September.. if it does come to the PC i'll be sure to pick it up as well.

I wouldn't say this is "evidence" that there will be a port of Halo : Reach and I would be very dubious about whether MS would allow a game with such important implications for their xbox 360 appearing on the PC. I would have thought it was pretty obvious by now what Microsoft want you to do, hell they have told us enough times via their actions and comments. They want you to buy a PC for the internet and buy an xbox 360 for gaming. That hasn't changed and bringing Halo : Reach to the PC would be hampering that goal of theirs.

What you mean the now "delayed on the PC" Fable 3 ? That is probably more down to Peter Molyneux he has always been a fan of PC gaming and you will probably find he has pushed for Fable 3 on the PC. I don't think it is any coincidence that Fable 3 on the PC has been "delayed" it will probably come out 6 - 12 months later when no one will really care and those that are going to convert will have converted then.

It was the only game I was looking foward to on the xbox after conkers 2 was canned so, now I dont need to get an xbox :D

I don't think it will happen, at least not until they release a windows 8. Only time will tell, chances are we'll only play it on PC when someone releases a 360 emulator.

Would be cool. I've always wanted to try out current-gen Halo.

I'd pay $20 for a really good port to see how the series has evolved since the first one.

I enjoyed the Halo games, it was all very good and simple fun. I'm not going to take what that guy said to heart, though. He might be teasing, and who knows if enough people will actually buy this for the pc.

It would be even cooler if 360 and PC people could play together. PC players get KB/M, and 360 players get auto aim...which I think would even things out overall. Guess we'll see though. testament1

The odds of the PC getting Halo : Reach are astronomically low, the odds of it having crossplay are mind boggling. There is no chance in this universe that there will be crossplay :-

Sood's sources claim that Microsoft pitted the best console players using control pads against "mediocre" PC gamers with mice and keyboards and found that the console players were "destroyed every time." I am still not convinced we will see Halo : Reach I wouldn't say that forum post is an indication of anything but some guy messing about.

OK maybe I am missing something incredibly obvious here with that link. All I see is a list of categories with the PC included, there is also a category for "handhelds" as well but I am not expecting to hear much from MS on "handhelds". Either way MS is way too busy trying to push Kinect on the xbox 360 for it to give any serious attention to the PC.

I may actually get it if it is on the PC. They could release it on Steam and if they have a front page advertisement then they could probably get lots of sales. I wouldn't mind if they tied it to steam.

Yeah... no. They won't even come close to doubling it. But it sure is worth the effort, anyway. Pretty much like free money for them.

I consider this good news, I am not really a fan of Halo, but Gearbox really did a good job on porting CE back in the day, si I think the game itself will be a good port (unlike so many others).

But since Halo never resonated all that much with me, I would rather see other Gearbox created games, instead of ports, I really like what they put out on the shelves :P

I would instantly buy PC versions of Halo 3, ODST and Reach if they were made available. Halo CE was pretty good, it's only real problem was how the animations were still tailored to 30 FPS and not free-form to the actual framerate. I bet it helped with processing, but it looked funny. Halo 2 didn't have that issue, but in some ways it ran funny, and got some graphical enhancements, though nothing truly significant beyond texture upgrades. Halo 2's problem was that it purely wasn't as good as Halo 1 in terms of freshness, but Halo 1 still really dragged on towards the last third of the game. Halo 3 is pretty good, and pretty much would be easy to port to PC. It's specific HDR method that required low z-buffer resolution wouldn't be an issue with the multitudes of video memory in a decent PC. A nice upgrade for Halo 3 and ODST would be some form of ambient occlusion. Halo Reach I believe is supposed to have it in some form, hence it would be expected in a PC version. I'd still buy PC versions of the Halo games even without real enhancements beyond being decent PC ports that ran well for what they were.

dont see why it would matter. halo reach chronologically is before Halo combat evolved. so you won't need to play halo 3 to understand halo reach. I'm already buying the 360 version but if there is one for the pc I'll still buy it even its $50 as long as they remove any features. What could be really interesting is co-op/fire-fight with 360 and pc users. But I can wait for the pc version cause Im getting the 360 version.

If there is 360 vs PC(which I highly doubt), 360 users will stop playing multiplayer.

Intresting as it sounds, I really doubt Gearbox will port it. I mean this is Bungies "Most anticipated, Game of the year" I really doubt they'd let it be ported to PC. I do hope I'm wrong though.
