if it has the fully featured coop mode of the 360, then this is great news

gow is a pretty stale singleplayer expeirence, and i found the deathmatch pretty vanilla and shortlived when compared with the pc's library of awesomeness

but the coop mode, playing system link with a pal, pretty completely awesome to play - if the pc has it, then it'll be well worth getting on the pc

besides that, meh - the cover system was just taking a gameplay element that's existed in shooters for years and turned it into a gameplay feature that console kiddies went wild for - it's called hard difficulty, when shooters games on hard, you gotta use crouch, prone, cover and lean to survive most firefights - so what gow did was nothing new

it's an astoundingly beautiful game, but there'll be other ue3.0 games out, and crysis, and more, by the time we get gow

so really, all gow is to me is great coop - if the pc has it, then it'll be a damn good game

if it doesn't, the game has no particular appeal at all

Yeah... we kind of need links or something to back it up. This thread has been made about 500 times since GeoW came out.

The CEO of the company that made Gears of War said that it will be coming out for computer, it's inevitable. He said don't expect it to be out for at least a couple of years though, since it would take so much time to change a game of that scope into a whole different format for a completely different type of machine.

I hate the game for my 360, it's just beyond me how this crappy game won GOTY. It should have been Rainbow Six Vegas in my opinion. Hell, even Oblivion, not this crappy cover fest. The art style was terrible and so for me I'd give the graphics an 8, not matter how shiny it is. Same old drab grays and browns.

Funny, looking at your profile reveals that not only do you NOT own Gears, you don't even own a single 360 game. Take it to system wars bud, this is the PC forum.

Where's the proof?

Anyway, when it does come to PC, I hope they really fix the online system and add a lot more features (maps and gameplay modes). I honestly found the actual gameplay to be insanely fun online, but the broken online system and the lack of variety really undermines its potential.

While there hasn't been any official announcement of a PC port. It would be as certain as death and taxes. Epic have always been a big PC developer and honestly both versions probably have been developed at the same time as the two versions would share quite a bit of the same code. Epic just have to wait until the 360 exclusive contract expires, once it has a PC version will be out. Probably DX10 only.

The versus mode is irritating, but the co-op is amazing. I just wish it had four-player co-op, since it's wholly possible in the game (though a couple people would have to switch characters partway through). I'm already done with this game, but for anyone who does not have a 360 it's great news!

Didn't you guys see the Bit-Tech link someone provided?

PC Gamer leaked photos of Gears of War PC Box display (just a mock-up, but still).

The Inquirer article

Joystiq.com: More information on Nvidia drivers displaying Gears of War

Maximum PC No BS Podcast #7 with in-depth talk about official announcement of GoW coming to PC.

Here is the Bit-Tech article that RazorGR linked earlier.

Want more proof?

What I don't understand is how badly companies can mess-up PC console ports (a la Halo). I mean, the games are DEVELOPED on a freakin' computer! In my humble opinion, Epic really needs to jump on this. If one takes a gander at PC game sales, it would be obvious that with the launch of Windows Vista and the development of several key games as well as Live Anywhere!, the PC Games market is booming. One only needs to look at World of Warcraft numbers to see evidence of that. The hype and news surrounding a PC version of Gears of War is at an all-time high; Epic would be crazy to pass this type of publicity and gamer hype up. And to all the console fans who say they deserve exclusivity to the game, I can't disagree more.

Microsoft is developing Live Anywhere! so that PC gamers will basically have access to the same service that Xbox owners enjoy with their Xbox Live service. Not only that, but Microsoft is developing Live Anywhere into a service that lets PC and Xbox 360 gamers play one another at certain popular games. Gears of War could be a great "launch" game for this service. Its not like the Xbox 360 needs exclusive launch titles as of now-it is the top-selling console system in the world and has already been out for more than a year! Plus, GoW is published through Microsoft Gaming Studios, so thats as close as Microsoft can get to making the calls without actually owning Epic-so why not? I think it would be great to be able to play against Xbox 360 gamers and to do Co-Op with some of my friends who don't have a killer PC but have GoW for their Xbox 360's.

Just because that Epic wants to doesn't mean they are allowed to.  That is up to their publisher.  Epic, even though they are the developer, cannot make a port of someone else's game. Microsoft owns the rights to the game (they lisenced Epic to program for them) and they have the final say whether or not it gets ported.  Look it up.

It's sad though, as Gears was slated for the PC and the 360 last year. Suddenly, MS decided to make it 360 only. It's just the nature of the business. Anyone with half a brain knows that Epic has the PC version up and running right now, they are under contract with MS though, as stated above. I strongly feel, from a business perspective, that until Halo 3 comes out, we will not see a released date for Gears PC. I have it for the 360, and I'm not to big on it's multiplayer, very basic. As said earlier though, the CO-OP mode is the best part of the game, and is what makes it a really good game. Also, if it does come to the PC, it would be nice to extend the single player campaign, as it is way to short, and with a M/K, I could blow throw it without a problem. It's a 4 hour game if they brought it to the PC, not to mention if they carry over the HUGE hit boxes that are allowed in the game. These are all things though that I am sure will get tweaked when ported.

Epic actually owns the rights to the game. they're just under a contract with MS as the publisher. Once that contract is done epic can do whatever they want with Gears. Even then I don't think MS would really be against putting it onto the PC.

Even if Epic owned the rights to the franchise (which they don't), Microsoft does hold the contract to the game.  Thus you'll be waiting a couple of years before they can even begin to code.  And if Microsoft did ever want to put it out on PC, they wouldn't be dumb enough to do it when it is still popular on another of their platforms.  Thus you'd be waiting a couple of years again.  This is Halo all over again. No matter which scenario plays out, you'll be closer to 2010 before you ever see it on PC's.

They are probably going to try that too. Wait for the GoW popularity die down on 360 then release it on PC for it to only go to another platform of players who will inevitably want to buy it. Thus creating another fad. Thats Halo for you... It doesn't excite me but it does sound kinda fun I guess. And as Johnny_Rock said, if it comes out around 2010 then its definitely going to be run with DX10. And no, Microsoft wouldn't be against putting on the PC, what haven't they done to try and make more money?

Unless MS buys Epic they don't have the rights to anything. All they can do is stop funding them for development.

I really hope its not like Halo all over again. I don't see why Epic and Microsoft could have any problems with the possibility of releasing the game as a PC title. If you look at statistics, the PC games market is growing, which is a stark contrast to what "industry experts" were saying only last year. Its not like Epic or Microsoft would be cannibalizing their Xbox 360 sales-the general opinion is that console fans will buy console games and stick to it, or they purchased a console such as an Xbox because they couldn't afford a high end gaming pc, yet still wanted some features such as great graphics and gameplay at an affordable price. Some people might even end up purchasing the game for both platforms! Since Microsoft publishes the game, why couldn't they just work with Epic to bring it over to the PC? Its a great way to promote their new Windows Vista operating system, Games for Windows initiative, and their upcoming Live Anywhere! service.

If Epic came up with the concept for the game that would be true.  This is Microsofts brainchild and they needed someone to code it.  Just because they made the game doesn't mean they have automatic ownership.

EDIT as the link at the top of this page suggests, Epic has been given the go-ahead.  So this thread is now moot.

if it has the fully featured coop mode of the 360, then this is great news

gow is a pretty stale singleplayer expeirence, and i found the deathmatch pretty vanilla and shortlived when compared with the pc's library of awesomeness

but the coop mode, playing system link with a pal, pretty completely awesome to play - if the pc has it, then it'll be well worth getting on the pc

besides that, meh - the cover system was just taking a gameplay element that's existed in shooters for years and turned it into a gameplay feature that console kiddies went wild for - it's called hard difficulty, when shooters games on hard, you gotta use crouch, prone, cover and lean to survive most firefights - so what gow did was nothing new

it's an astoundingly beautiful game, but there'll be other ue3.0 games out, and crysis, and more, by the time we get gow

so really, all gow is to me is great coop - if the pc has it, then it'll be a damn good game

if it doesn't, the game has no particular appeal at all
A-S_FM

Interesting analysis of the cover feature, and I completely agree, both with that and the fact that Gears of War is a very plain singleplayer experience.

I dont know why they wouldnt port it over, it would sell millions more copies.  Its pretty much that microsoft has them by the balls and wants 360 exclusives methinx.
